We have just returned from a very wet and windy weekend at the Sea View campsite.

The facilities on site are basic, but maintained to a very clean standard. Showers cost 20p for 5 minutes, and this was ample time. There are only 4 showers in total (2 male and 2 women) and I only ever had to queue once, but I imagine if the site was fully booked these could get very busy.

There is a little shop that sells fresh pastries, eggs and other things. It would be better if this opened earlier as currently it doesn't open until 9.

Location of the site is good, down a lane, so not much traffic noise. However it was very windy particularly at night.

I imagine in good weather the site would be lovely, but we were not able to see the views.

Plenty of pro's and con's for this site.

Previous reviews stated basic for showers and toilets (very basic) had to queue (4 adults 1 child) every single time for showers which cost 20p for 5 mins - showers not heat adjustable and the water only came out at one speed. Don't take much notice of the ladies/gents signs as only 4 showers in all, but it is polite to let ladies/children go first, also no where to shelter from the rain while waiting.

Toilets facilities ok, could be better could be cleaner and definitely could smell nicer! If you like your personal space avoid during busy times. My partner did mention that it would of been nice to have had toilet brushes in there so at least she could clean up after our 5y.O. If need be.

Shop was basic but adequate though my one gripe was there wasn't a proper structured opening/closing time to the shop and when it was open it never felt for very long.

If you like water beds you'll enjoy the potwashing area - its not flooded far from it but you will feel like you are stood on one.

Despite the above it is a nice site, family friendly and the pitches are very spacious and flat on the whole. Plenty of areas for kids to play but no designated play area/ground. The views from the campsite of the surrounding areas are beautiful.

There are 2 pubs in Slapton village we only visited the Queens Arms - had food and drink, run of the mill food, service just about acceptable (forgot kids meal - especially after waiting for nearly an hour for our food- don't get me wrong on a another night it could of been perfect but when my job has been running pubs I can get very critcal). Overall atmosphere was really nice and welcoming, great for dogs on a lead.

Slapton beach (pebbles) was nice, quiet, plenty of space. Great for a relaxing day and dog friendly. In Torcross there is a little shop/post office really friendly and did most things- plenty of snacks and sandwiches everything reasonably priced unlike some shops!

Very narrow lanes in all directions to and from the campsite and ignore your sat nav. If travelling to Kingsbridge take a left out of the campsite and follow signs for Chillington this will avoid you going through Slapton village and a right from the campsite for Dartmouth

Nightmare parking where ever you go espcially in dartmouth. USE PARK AND RIDE £4 ALL DAY FOR CAR AND BUS TICKETS UPTO 6 PEOPLE. Salcombe is another place that we recommend for park and ride (we were there during reggata week though).

Best beach for us was East Portlemouth - car parking is national trust but alternatively you can get a ferry from salcombe, if at low tide you can walk on the beach to East Portlemouth if not its a 10/15min walk by road. Dogs allowed.

We've spent yet another fantastic week at this lovely site (our fifth year now). We love the acres of space on this site, the beautiful sea view and that we are able to choose our pitch. Our children joined with others on the site to play rounders and frisbee. There is always such a friendly atmosphere here. There are no extra charges for gazebos, pup tents and extra cars, which we have been caught by on other sites. Someone even arrived to camp by helicopter (they parked it in the next field).

A welcome addition this year was the site shop with fresh croissants every morning and the very friendly shopkeeper who was lovely to my children- very reasonably priced shop too. I asked about recycling this year and was told that the council charges to empty the trade waste bins, which are taken to their new recycling plant.

Our favourite trips out included the walk to Start Point Lighthouse- breathtaking views, and the annual obligatory trip to Woodlands- chosen by the children.

Just spent a few very windy days here. My tent didn't give up, but was challenged.

The site is nice, not the best I've stayed at and I agree with the reviewer below, could do with a few more showers etc bearing in mind the number of pitches available - although very serviceable and at 20p for 6 mins, good value. Different bins for recycling would've been good in this day and age.

Saying that, washing up facilities great, also freezer for cool blocks. Owners very friendly.

Pubs in village very nice, food good and staff friendly. The Queens Arms has a really nice beer garden and is dog friendly

We were situated right next to the direct route to the toilets/showers, which meant we had to put up with a constant stream of other campers walking past our tent. We even had to put up with people coming late at night in their cars, leaving engines running and lights on, which was really annoying!

The fields are supposed to be fairly level, however, we did not find this to be true, everything in our tent was on a lean. Despite the moaning we did have a breathtaking view of the sea.

We took our dog and kept her on the lead when moving round the campsite but other dog owners were not as considerate. The campsite rules say all dogs should be kept on a lead at all times, so this was not the campsites fault.

The showers were kept clean as were the toilets. Showers cost 20p for 5 mins, the only downside was the temperature could not be altered and so they were too hot for our children. Also, if you wanted a shower after 7.30am you had to be prepared to queue.

There is a small shop on site which is reasonably priced.

The beach is not within easy walking distance for children, elderly or disabled and the roads are very narrow.

We are fairly new to camping and finding our feet but sites like this make it easy to camp.

We found this site had everything we needed. The toilets and showers are fairly clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. There are good washing facilities and the pitches are level in most areas of the field. We also had plenty of room around us.

We were very lucky with the weather but I should imagine the wind is quite strong sometimes, being in such a prominent position. There are, however, plenty of pitches round the outside of the field, which afford more shelter.

Having 2 young kids, we found it fairly noisy in the evening being a balmy summer one, but the attitude was pleasant and I guess it is all part of camping. People turned in at a reasonable time so it wasn't a problem.

We ate twice at the Start Bay Inn at Torcross, where the Crab Sandwiches are worth the visit. There are also a couple of pubs in the village. We love Slapton Sands and have been there many times as we live in Devon ourselves, but staying here allowed us to explore the area in more detail and relax.

We visited Salcombe and ventured as far west as Burgh Island, as well as exploring Slapton Ley. The history of Slapton is incredible and I always wonder why it never seems busier, maybe it is the sheer scale of the beach that makes it seem less crowded.

Lovely campsite, lovely people, lovely area. Great.

My husband and I spent two glorious weeks here with our 2 dogs. If you want a real get away from it all feeling then this is the place. The views from the site are beautiful.

Most of the time we were there it felt like we had the place to ourselves. The showers have a good supply of water for the 20p cost. The showers and the toilets are in portable cabins but they were always clean. There is a fridge and freezer to use and a local butcher calls to the site weekly (very nice meat).

The owners were very helpful. The local village is lovely but a very steep hill to walk back up. Overall excellent holiday and great value for money. Would go back again.

Sea View was a last minute booking but we had no regrets. We are not five-star campers – our usual site only has portaloos and a standpipe so Sea View was luxurious in comparison – but we had such an enjoyable weekend here that we will definitely return, hopefully later this year.

The location is lovely, with Slapton village a short walk away, and there are lots of fantastic walks nearby. The beach is about five minutes by car but be warned that Slapton village has very narrow roads and many blind spots. Slapton Ley is a great spot for birdwatching, with lots of warblers and waterfowl. The beach is extremely long and has some nice-looking cafes and pubs at Torcross.

The owners' daughter collected our money and was very friendly; the facilities were clean and perfectly serviceable and the site was big enough for us to have plenty of space for our pitch.

A great place - even sitting in the tent doorway watching the fog swirl in from the sea was great fun!

The description of this campsite, is exactly what it is. We have just spent a lovely long weekend there. It is basic camping at its best. We were very lucky with the weather.

The site is about half a mile from the beautiful village of Slapton. There are two lovely pubs with excellent food and a wide range of ales & ciders on offer. Drive very slowly through the village as it is very narrow - be prepared to GIVE WAY. The Tower Inn dates back to the 14th century and was once part of an ecclesiastical college commissioned by Sir Guy de Bryan. His squire was none other than Geoffrey Chaucer, of Canterbury Tales fame. The now derelict tower rises above the pub. Very difficult to park, I had to reverse my Fiesta into the small car park.

The Queens Head has a very congenial atmosphere. Slightly more room to park, but it does get very busy.

The site does not have a shop and the local store is limited, so make sure you have everything because it's a 5 mile drive to the nearest convenience store.

At Slapton Beach - 3.5 mls long, is great for fishing and good for the kids. The sea is gin clear. On the other side of the road is a freshwater lake where you can also fish. It is also part of a conservation area.

Slapton sands is also where the D Day landing practises took place. The Start Bay Inn is well worth a visit at Torcross.

The downside is weather for this site. There is not much cover, and it was pretty dismal when we decamped. The views are great though and we would definitely go there again.

Just spent 2 weeks at seaview, lovely big pitches, friendly owners, even though high season and was prepared to queue for toilets/showers etc it did not happen, we must have got there just before/after the rush. Not a shop on the site as advertised so go prepared with tea/coffee/milk etc, but a shop in the village, or supermarkets in Dartmouth and Kingsbridge, entailing a short drive. Be prepared for high winds 1st week of our holiday we lost our tent to very high winds, so had to buy a new one at Ashbeys in East Charleston (They were extremley helpful). Second week we caught the tail end of hurricane Bill, but new tent stood up to it!

If you need to get away from the rat race this is the site for you. We will definitely be going back.
