Had a week here at the end of August to recover from the Beautiful Days festival. Nice site - large field with a spacious field, although the owners seemed to fill up from one side to the other so we were put in a pitch next to lots of other full pitches when half the field was empty. Good views of Start Bay from some parts of the field.
Facilities fine, 20p showers that last for long enough, washing up and a fridge and chest freezer to use. Damned if I can find my freezer block again though.
Handy for Slapton Sands (the trick is in the word sand - it's all pebbles). Nice cafe in Torcross, can't remember what it is called. £6 to hire a kayak for an hour that even I can paddle without capsizing.

We visited this site after spending a wet and dreary week at Polmanter in Cornwall. Fortunately the weather improved drastically for our few days in Devon. We found Sea View without too much difficulty, however the road through Slapton village was definitely not designed with the motorcar in mind. It is tricky enough when there is nothing coming the other way but if that is the case, Lord help you!
The campsite is very spacious and well laid out with loads of space between pitches. We found I nice spot at the top of the main field, which provided an excellent sea view (pitch 71 I think). The elderly couple who run the site are very friendly and helpful and the tariff for camping here is very reasonable, it cost us a total of £10.00 per night for two adults, two kids, car and tent. Amenities are basic but adequate and the help yourself freezer for ice packs etc. is a great idea.
The surrounding area is very beautiful and close to some great beaches, we spent a couple of days at Blackpool Sands, which is great but a bit pricey at £5.00 a day for parking. Dartmouth and the Torbay resorts are also within easy reach to the east and Salcombe is less than an hours drive to the west. Slapton village itself is very picturesque and offers two very nice pubs. I would recommend walking into the village as driving and parking there is a nightmare, as previously mentioned.
All in all a very nice site in a lovely area with a traditional camping feel at old-fashioned prices.

July 2004 On approaching Slapton & asking a local for directions I felt uneasy when they had never heard of this site! Driving on through the single track lanes we came across a sign & turned into the field. My first impression was less than favourable when I saw that the toilet/shower block looked like a converted steel container, with the fixtures being obvious cast-offs from other sources! There are no rules needed, no rowdies, no boy racers, no kids playground, no shop on site or within reasonable walking distance. There IS total peace & quiet after 10PM & lots of space for pitching & the kids to play. The showers cost 20p & are weak but hot, with plenty of time. There is only 1 shower each for men & women, plus a unisex shower in the washing up hut. Ladies please note - there are no electric sockets for hairdryers etc. There are 2 washing up sinks with hot water in the hut & a massive free freezer for coolblocks etc, which saved us a fortune as we could change them as often as we liked. The facilities are always clean. Towards the end of our stay the site filled up, with more fields being made available & this put a strain on the limited facilities, although I never had to wait long for a shower. All in all, whilst this is the most basic, uncommercialised site we have ever stayed at it was the cheapest (£10 per night for a family of 4, tent & trailer high season) and is in essence what real camping is all about. If you don't mind getting back to basics this site is for you. Like your creature comforts? Unless you bring them with you, best go elsewhere!

Aug 2004 As other reviewers have noted a friendly basic site - but VERY basic, too few toilets and showers, water system running very poorly, pressure on hot & cold meant waiting for minutes on end to fill bowls - at times the flow would give up completely. And the showers.....
So for a self contained caravaner/camper or someone used to "festival" class amenities, ok. For a family in a tent - bit iffy.
No stones though ;-)

July/Aug 2003 This was our first time camping and we couldn't have asked for a better place to start. The views across the countryside to the sea are wonderful. There is lots of room on the site, both for tent/car etc and space for the children to play. The toilets and showers are basic but always clean and there is ample hot water in the "green shed" for washing up. There is a freezer available for your icepacks too. There was a lovely atmosphere on the site - everyone was very friendly. This is a lovely site if you want to get back to basics. We shall definitely be going back again, at only £12 per night for the tent, 2 cars, 2 adults and 5 children (electric hook-up available for about £1.50 a night).

For our first time camping, this site was excellent value, at only £6.00 a night. The toilets and showers although basic were kept clean at all times. You could also take your ice packs and keep them frozen in the owners freezer. A very friendly atmosphere from the rest of the campers. We will be returning.
