The location of this campsite is excellent, within a 5 minute walking distance of Pooley Bridge; which has wonderful pubs and a lovely cafe with a garden terrace. Pooley Bridge is very Child friendly. The local shop had everything you could need and also offered cash-back.
The campsite itself was ok. The playground was brilliant for our 4 year old son and the view from the campsite was lovely.
Unfortunately our experience of the facilities were that they weren't very clean and there were birds were nesting in the mens toilets.
The pitches are quite close together and as previous reviews have commented the electric pitches are quite sloped - but doesn't cause a huge problem.
There was a lot of noise on our first night at the campsite until well after midnight from other campers, which was frustrating especially when the rules say no noise after 11pm. Subsequent nights did improve. Maybe it would be beneficial for all campers to be given a list of rules on arrival and a map of the campsite.
In summary campsite has a great location for Ullswater, the playground was great and a very pleasant welcome on arrival, but the facilities did need some work and the campsite rules need to be more clear.

Found Hillcroft after our 1st choice site proved to be a disappointment, arrived fairly late (4 pm). Staff helpful, booked in on a non electric pitch.
The site is very well kept. Toilets showers and dish washing facilities very clean throughout our stay. Children's play area big enough not to appear over crowded & well equipped, the playing field was away from the tents and again well kept. The site shop was well stocked with every day items and kids stuff as well.
5-10 min walk away is the village of pooley bridge, with 3 pubs, cafe, tourist info, outdoor shop, post office/newsagent and a couple of gift shops. From here ferry rides on the lake and various sizes of boat hire are available. There are plenty of walks in the area either along the lake or in the hills & a water fall 10 mins drive away. WithPenrith being 15 mins drive & Windermere 40 mins drive there are plenty of options for things to do.
From what we had seen the family thought this was the best site in the area, the price appears high but is average for the area. If camping on one of the top fields a torch is needed as there is no lighting. A lovely site we hope to visit again

We stayed here at the Hillcroft for 3 nights at the end of July when the weather was really bad and the site was full, the staff where really pleasant and helpful and we where able to book a tent pitch before we arrived which was good as we arrived very late in the evening.
Hillcroft is located about 5/10 minutes walk from the centre of Pooley Bridge where there are 3 great pubs all serving good food and Beer! there is also a great post office+shop that was extremely well stocked and had some of the cheapest gas bottles around!
As mentioned the weather was and had been really bad with exceptional amounts of rain, even so the site stayed relatively bog free, there are 2 huge toilet blocks each with about 6 showers and 6 toilets in the gents with a huge urinal and 10 or so sinks, there was never more than 2/3 people in there whenever I used them, in the more remote block in the middle of the static caravan pitch there was a laundry, these where also the least used and so where by far the cleanest toilets on the site.
There is a shop on the site that has most or the things you could expect and even sold beer and wine! Also if you have children there is a huge play area that even I was tempted by!
If there was anything to complain about it was that the main toilet block could do to be cleaned more often, we where only there 3 days and in that time they where only cleaned once, this was evident as one of the loo's was covered in you know what for two full days! that aside it was a great stay and we are planning to return in a few months time.

Almost forced to the site due to not booking anything in Windermere early enough in mid July with kids off.
We pre-booked a tent pitch with EHU, warm welcome on arrival and were shown to our pitch. It was a lovely sunny Saturday lunchtime. Site already very full.
The pitch did have a slight slope, which forced us to pitch slightly different to normal, was only minor though and not off-putting.
Nice walk down to the lake, through pooley bridge, which seemed well equipped, we popped into one of camping shops for ground sheet repair kit, seemed well stocked.
Lovely evening on site but noise did continue well past 11pm, no one seemed to care. 2 families together pitched adjacent to us were the culprits, could hear them talking and laughing till almost 1.
Heavy rain started overnight and basically continued till our departure on the Tues, despite the heavy rain, no water loggin on site that we saw.
Plenty of water points, washing up areas clean.
Toilet and shower blocks clean too and never had to queue despite it being peak time.
Browsed in shop, seemed to have everything you may need.
Would re-visit. But we do prefer to go to new places every time.

Just come back from 6 days at this site, and definitely will be returning. Lovely site with clean toilets, showers and washing up facilities. Playground was brill we couldn't keep our girls away rom it. Five mins walk there is a little town called pooley bridge which has 3 pubs, a camping shop and a couple of little nic-nac shops. The EHU pitches are slightly sloped, but not a major problem. All the staff were friendly and very helpful. One member of staff gave me some of his own washing powder to save me bying a full box for one wash. All in all fantastic site and will be returning and recommending.

Stayed here over the whit hols and found it a lovely campsite. Situated just outside the village of Pooley bridge(5 min walk)with lovely views of surrounding country side.
Ehu tent pitches were on a slight slope but not too bad.
Toilet facilities a little dated but were clean.
Washing up facilities also clean.
Small shop on site which sold the basics (including chilled beer) and staff were very friendly.
Not cheap £27 for 2 adults and 2 children per night but you are paying for the location here. Ten min walk to lake ullswater where you can take a steamer to surrounding areas or hire a motor boat to enjoy the lake or enjoy food and wine in all 3 of the village pubs.
Would use site again as its location is perfect and the site has a quiet and relaxed feel and although busy over the weekend didn't feel too over crowded.

This was my first visit to this campsite but my partner has been here several times. Its a lovely site with very friendly staff and the prices were pretty good compared to some of the surrounding sites. There is a huge park which kept our 3yr old entertained! there are two shower and toilet blocks with washing up facilities, it was a brilliant weekend and very enjoyable for our sons first camping trip! The showers are a little out of date and in need of a lick of paint and are a little bit of a squish not much room for showering and then drying and getting dressed. This and the fact that they do tend to pack the tents in on the main field, so I can imagine in high season its pretty cramped are the only downsides to this site. Its only a short walk into Pooley bridge which is a nice little town with nice pubs, a post office, a couple of little nik nak gift shops and a outdoor clothing shop. Its also only a short walk to the lake and steam boats. Its a great family friendly site and they cannot do enough to help. We loved our weekend here and will definitely be back!

My girlfriend and I have stayed at this site on multiple occasions in the last 2 years. It is an excellent site for camping with friendly owners and occupants, both in static and tent units. The site is situated with good views over Ullswater and surrounding fields and behind there is immediate access on the fells.
The toilet and shower block is slightly dated but is well maintained. The shop is licenced and provides tokens for the washing laundry facilities.
Pubs are less than 10 mins walk into Pooleybridge where there is a decent selection among the three main pubs for food/beverages. Recommend that you try the Lamb in the Pooleybridge Inn - Amazing value and portion sizes as we had so much left over we managed to get a doggy bag that fed our dog twice the day thereafter!
Noise is confined to what it ought to be in the Lakes - birds and livestock in neighbouring fields. I would highly recommend this site to anyone wishing for a relaxing and enjoyable stay.

Arrived at site in the most appalling conditions. Bucketing rain and gale force winds. On the motorway en-route, our skylight blew off. Hence soaking the inside of the van. The warden was most helpful. He climbed on top of the van for us with a dustbin lid and held it down with a brick! Everything was soaked though. We tried the tv but it would not work. As regard the site and the reception, it was excellent. Fortunately the next day the sun came out. We went for a walk and when we got back to the van the key would not fit. So, we had to drill a small hole in the window to prize it open. And then sent one of the kids through to open the door. There was some nice things for the kids to play on and the showers\toilets etc were above average. Handy little shop on site for essentials.

Had a week on the site and loved it. Has a fantastic play area (Kept the kids out the way whilst we pitched). And the staff were very friendly (As you would expect in the lake district).
The only let down was one of the toilet block was a bit old fashioned and they cleaned it at 8 o'clock every morning (Just when you wanted to use it). However there are two toilet blocks on the site soa littlewalk tothe other oneisnot too much of a problem, so don't let it put you off.
There is also a very well stocked shop on the site (AND IT'S LICENCED).
The village of Pooley Bridge is only 1/4 of a mile away and there are three very nice pubs, a post office and village store. There is a lovely walk along side the lake from Pooley and your within walking distance from the site to catch one of the Ulswater Steamers.
To sum up it's a smashing site and are looking forward to next seasons holiday there.
