August 2004 This site was really nice, a big site but didn’t feel like that as it is split into different fields by trees.
The showers and toilets are reasonably clean, although the showers were not particularly hot. There is a very good large play area for kids of all ages.
Pooley Bridge is only five minutes walk down the hill where there are three different pubs all with beer gardens and decent food.
The staff were friendly and helpful, didn’t buy anything from the shop, but handy to have.
Would definitely consider visiting here again in the future. One bad thing was, there was lots and lots of wasps around (not sure whether this was due to the time of year or the hot weather). Don’t forget your wasp swotter!!

April 30th 2004 The staff at Hillcroft were excellent nothing was too much trouble. We stayed on field three which has excellent views over Ullswater and lovely and tranquil. Field one and two were a bit more full and noisier. I would recommend this site to anyone, the facilities are excellent and plenty of them. I will certainly be returning again soon.

23/4/04 The site is fairly standard, toilet block reasonably clean, however showers fairly narrow. Large play area for the kids. The site is 'perched'on top of a hill so going anywhere it's all downhill walking which is okay, not so good on the road back up though. Pooley Bridge village is ten minutes walk with three different pubs, handy for eating out. Marks out of ten 6 1/2.

9th April - 11th April We arrived late and the shop was closed but I'd phoned and got permission to stay and pay in the morning so we set up our tents and settled down.
The staff here are the most helpful staff I've ever known, even when we got our bus stuck and messed up one corner of the field the staff helped us push it out then laughed at us for being stupid and parking on the grass. No complaints or moans about the damage.
The shop is small but sells just about everything you need at a reasonable price.
Pooley Bridge is only five minutes walk down the hill with pubs and shops.
The showers and toilets are very, very clean, the staff mop them every hour.
The staff are a great source of information about the local area and they are more than willing to stop and chat with you.
I love this site, its clean, quiet, good facilities, nice shop and has the most helpful staff in the area. I'll be spending most weekends this season on this site.

April 2004! Just got back from the site now. It was brilliant. I'm only 18 and I went with my boyfriend who is 21 and we enjoyed it as much as everyone else did. The owners are really helpful and friendly which made our stay even better. Another couple came with us and they said it's great to. There are pubs just down the road in pooley bridge which is about 15 minutes walk down the road. There is a park on the site and great showers, the toilets are really clean. The site is massive and is great for summer, there's a park that we played on, it's really for kids. Great places around for walks, bikes etc.

july 2003 Recommended site by a friend, best thing he's ever done. Visited many sites in the lake district for many years, this one is by far the best.
Midges didn't bother us

August 2003 This was the second time that we visited this site, the last time being about 3 or 4 years ago, and that time we were without children. The site was ideal for us in both situations.
The staff are very helpful, and there are no specific pitch sizes so no worrying about cramming yourself in. You will also find yourself within easy walking distance of Pooley Bridge itself, so no need to take the car when you visit one of the three pubs in the centre.
There is a lovely playground for children, which is suitable for all age groups. There are wood chippings underfoot - the older kids can get a bit boistrous throwing these about.
The showers are great, and free! No worrying if you are going to have enough water to rinse off! There are also plenty of toilets, and apparently there is another toilet block with laundry facilities although we didn't have reason to visit this. Washing up facilities are adequate.
The taps are clearly marked 'drinking' and 'waste' water, so I felt quite safe giving this to my toddlers.
The minimum charge while we were there was £11, but worth it.
One thing I would say, the weather was great this time. But when we visited before it was wet, and it does get very boggy down the bottom of the camping fields, but apart from that a great site!

August 2003 Was a really pretty site well maintained and presented and the park for the children was very good. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the site asks for you to be quiet at night and it was that. I have young children and sometimes its hard to get them to sleep when there is noise outside - there was somone in the next field making noise till 2 in the morn but they were evicted immediatly next morning.
I personally didnt feel it was the sort of site where your every move is watched you're left to your own devices as long as you are respectful to others. They made sure it was a very family oriented site.
The only fault i could find is that the pitches are on a slight slope but not too bad and the village and the views are beautiful

July 2003 Excellent site. Run by very friendly couple who couldn't do enough to help us.
Toilet and shower facilities were brilliant - very clean, kept well stocked with supplies and the showers have adjustable temperature and lots of hot water - all free. Site has well-stocked shop with a good range of items.
Site is quiet due to not allowing large groups, providing a relaxing environment. Didn't take children with us, but the play area looked spotless and ideal for families. About half a mile downhill to the village which has several places to eat (I recommend The Sun for reasonable prices and good grub) though the walk back up the hill after more than a few glasses of wine seemed to take forever!
We were on motorcycles, they gave us advice on the best place to pitch to provide us with hardstanding for the bikes and even gave us a wave every morning as we set off for our ride! And unlike the site we had stayed at the night before who charged us £3 (PER BIKE!) they didn't charge us anything for our motorcycles. It was so nice to find a site who made us feel very welcome and didn't think we were hellraisers!
They really did do everything to make our stay enjoyable - so much so, that our planned 'couple of nights' stay turned into six nights. We were charged £9 a night for us and our tent - worth every penny.
We will be back very soon (though please let us know when the midges go on holiday!) and cannot recommend this site highly enough.
