Very good campsite with access to the Tissington trail and minutes from Dovedale and the stepping stones. We booked Friday morning, jumped in the car after work and despite the traffic made it before reception closed.
Our boys loved the playarea and we ate at the takeaway which was ok. Shop was well stocked and toilets and showers plentiful and clean. There is a TV room and swimming pool for wet weather. Pitches in the Peak park tent field are slightly sloping.
Our boys made a lot of friends and there was a good atmosphere. Quite an expensive site but worth it.

Just returned home today after a wonderful weekend at this great campsite with a group of friends and lots of children. Showers were lovely and hot with hooks for bags and towels, washing up facilities were clean, the swimming pool was fun and available on a booking facility as only 24 people are allowed in the pool at any time.
The children's play area was well equipped and had lots of room for ball games.
You can get directly on to the Tissington trail from here and it is a short drive to Dovedale. The site was peaceful and the wardens were friendly. Would definitely recommend this site to all.

We stayed here as a group of seven families and found the site excellent again. Booking ws easy and we were able to pitch a group of eight tens in the corner of one of their large camping fields. The main filed is on a slight slope so careful selection of pitch is needed ut there is plenty of room to spread out and separate groups from ech other.
Reception staff are very helpful and there is a useful samll shop o site.
Site is well located close to the Tissington Trail for walks and bike rides.
The three pubs closest to the site are all good and provide good value meals which we have sampled on a number of wet Saturday nights in Ashbourne,

Our first visit of 2010, having stayed here regularly in previous years.
The site is in a good location, not too far outside of Ashbourne, and is quiet with easy access to the Tissington Trail for walks and bike rides. There are good facilities including an indoor pool which you book in advance, a shop and a great children's play area.
Normally the shower blocks etc are excellent, although on this visit I did not think they were quiet as clean as usual. Hopefully this will improve next time.
Overall a good site in a good location that caters for everyone.

We tend to select our sites based on location and accept that if all of the basic facilities are present and working we can get on with our break.
That is the case with this site, the basic facilities were present and working, the shower/WC blocks didn't have any WOW factor which other reviewers seem to think didn't reflect the price level charged.
Because we visited on a wet Easter there were issues with mud, but no more than on any other non-hardstanding site. There is a limited amount of hardstanding on site but this seems to be reserved for motor homes.
The shop and take-away were both up to standard.
Access into the site was good on a well made road and although when approaching from the south you have to turn back on yourself this was not an issue with our long twin axle unit as the entrance is very adequate.
The site location is worthy of mention. There is direct access from the site to the Tissington Trail which is great for walkers, dog walkers and cyclists, but give consideration that if you wish to vary your walks it will be necessary to drive to other areas and as the site is on the southern edge of the national park some of the distances can be considerable.
There are lots of local pubs for evening meals and although these were reasonable and adequate we were not lucky enough to find one worthy of recommendation or a return visit. There must be some treasures out there but perhaps they are closely guarded secrets!

We visited this campsite when staying at another in ashbourne and decided to give it a go, we didn't manage to get back here until October and had the whole field to ourselves (surprised ?),
We pitched our tent close as poss to the washing and toilet facilities that were very clean and tidy. There is a pub in walking distance but we decided to stay on site with a few drinks we brought ourselves as weather was a tad inclement
Staff on site very helpful with a shop selling your basic bits & bobs,a very nice indoor pool, charged a small fee which was good as it means it shouldn't be crowded all the time when the site is more busy.
All in all a very nice site and we plan to return after the Easter holiday when most have gone home, for a bit more peace, quiet and relaxation.

Lovely site! This was my first camping trip - just an overnighter with sister, toddler and three man tent - and I don't think I could have picked a better place. Despite it being school holidays, there was plenty of space, the showers and toilets were always clean, no pot wash queue and we had the swimming pool completely to ourselves in the morning.
Cycling on the tissington trail was fab, will def go back n do that again next year - especially if my sister volunteers to tow her neice's trailer again ;-)

Lovely campsite. The site was quiet when we arrived, in the middle of the week, but became much busier from Friday night through to Sunday lunchtime. Excellent play area and a generally 'cared for' feel to the site. Contrary to previous comments the 9.30pm rule at the play area was observed when we were there. The children were prompted to leave by a member of staff and appeared to do so. As the site was so full there was some queuing for washing up sinks and showers, but on an August weekend we would have expected this to be the case wherever we camped.
Please note that hairdryers are not available on site so ladies will need to take their own. A socket is available.

Camped here for the weekend.
The site itself is really nice and well maintained. There is a large play area for the children and an indoor swimming pool on site. You are given a very spacious pitch which we easily fit our tent and 2 cars.
After reading some reviews I was a bit worried as a lot of people mentioned signs everywhere telling you what you can and can't do. To be honest I didn't see any of these signs so maybe they are a little more relaxed now.
Here comes the BUT.
For the price which to be honest is one of the most expensive I've come across for a tent we didn't expect to then have to pay to use the pool. New charges from July 09 where £1.50 child and £2.50 per adult for an hours swimming. Nobody told us at the time of booking that extra charges would apply to actually use the facilities. The facilities were the main reason we booked the site. We didn't then expect to pay to use them. A bit steep considering the price we'd paid anyway.
The amenity block on the tent field leaves a lot to be desired. Although basic and clean there is only 1 shower, 3 sinks and 2 toilets. So morning and night there was a bit of a queue. A bucket in your tent may be needed if your desperate.
However, after exploring the site a bit we found another shower block over the other side where the static caravans are. This was a lot bigger, 10 toilets, 4 showers, 4 sinks and 1 private vanity cubicle. This block could do with being where the tents are and vice versa considering they are the ones with no facilities. Having this block near the static caravans and tourers seems a waste as they have their own bathrooms anyway.
The charges to use the facilities and the size of the camping amenities block are the only things that would stop me visiting here again as the rest of the site is really nice.

We eventually booked this site after calling every day for 2 weeks. They never replied to our emails or the messages we left when the answerphone wasn't full.
The site itself is very good but it is very poorly run. We found the staff quite stand offish apart from the warden who was a very helpful and friendly man.
The showers were not cleaned once all day Friday so you can imagine how horrid they were by Sat morning! There were no cloths or mops supplied so you could do it yourself. It was evident that a lot of the dirt had been there a long time.
We did complain but we were told it was too early to take complaints so they took my number - needless to say I'm still waiting for a call.
The shop was extremely expensive - £1 for a pint of milk and 85p for a can of beans!
Its a real shame as the pitches are good, a lovely playground and a great pool (although expensive)
