This site is situated about 5 minutes from Charmouth. Although it's called Monkton Wyld it's actually The Camping & Caravanning Club Site Charmouth. Upon arrival we thought it looked pretty and well maintained.
The toilets/showers are dated, however they are are clean and well cared for as is normal for C&C sites. Ideal to visit Charmouth and Lyme Regis which had some lovely shops!
The two things that I personally disliked about this site are the way the pitches are organised - we were put in an enclosure surrounded by foliage / trees with about 8 other units and I found this slightly oppressive as we had no view out whatsoever, the fact that the other units all seemed to have arrived in 'convoy' and were hogging both of the picnic benches provided as well as the grassed area in the middle with various ball games etc added to this feeling of being hemmed in.
The other gripe was the really sharp little bits of grit they have used on the hard standing areas, this was so annoying as it stuck to everything, and really hurt if you trod in it, and by the time we left our caravan carpet was covered in it.
Having looked forward to visiting this site for a while I was a bit disappointed with it overall so will not return.

This my second year at monktonwyld and it's even better then I remembered. On arrival we were greeted by a very friendly warden who took us to the camping field.
It had certainly changed from our last visit, the field now has a temporary shower and toilet block with free showers and the field had been updated with more hedge rows so your not camping in the middle of the field.
This was the best weeks camping I have ever had.

A very pretty and well-maintained site but with a couple of issues for us.
First, the website says they can tell you of a flat cycle route nearby but they couldn't. The couple of routes they did know were hilly and on roads, both a no-no if you have young kids like us.
Our pitch was fine but quite a trek away from the toilet block which only had 2 showers. Strangely, I never had to queue but that was probably due to the horrible weather we had - it must be very busy in sunny weather. Stupidly, they've put a much bigger block on the other side of the site, next to the statics !
The Hunters Lodge a mile away was very nice (great apple pie) but generally speaking, there are few other eating out options unless you go into Lyme Regis. We were hoping for more country pubs out in the country but the reception staff said there weren't any.
There is not a huge amount to do in the local area - Lyme Regis is very nice (but parking is very expensive) and there are some nice coastal walks but little else, especially when the weather is bad.
We had an enjoyable, relaxing break but, for no real fault of the site, we are unlikely to return.

We don't normally visit large sites, but we thought we would give the children a treat and go somewhere with a play area! Also we were stopping for longer than usual so we opted for a hardstanding.
We chose the site due to the excellent reviews and whilst I am not a fan of big sites I can report I actually enjoyed it!
We were in the left hand section of the site near the new toilet block and it was well spaced out. I think this was the better side of the site. The toilets were never overcrowded despite the site being full and always kept clean.
The children loved the play area.
Had fish & chips from the visiting van on 2 occasions and can report it was very good and I thought excellent value as well. Jacket spud van also good.
The staff were very helpful, wanted to take my boy corse fishing, they recommended a small lake and even rang it to see if it was open - very impressed. Think it was Highlanes Farm or similar, a few miles away, it was superb.
Dinosaur land in Lyme Regis is a must, could have stayed there all day. Loads to do in the area.
Did struggle to get wifi so check your plot before paying, however they did refund most of my weeks payment so no problem there.
Given 9/10 overall, which might be a bit mean, but I do like lots of walking/biking from a site and this didn't really have this.
Some posts mention road noise being an issue, I hate road noise and can report that I could hardly hear it, so not a problem. The tent field was closer to the road and I could imagine it could be an issue there.
So will give this one the thumbs up, enjoyed it very much, would recommend for families with children.

We arrived at midday and were welcomed to the highest standard by the reception staff.
We picked the wettest week in April! (second week of Easter). The pitches drained very well.
The pitch was large no. It was huge! We even had the benefit of several picnic tables, which were placed on the grass.
We were on grass with electric pitch 86, most of the grass pitches have a slight incline on them, nothing to drastic to moan about!
This pitch which was right next to the toilet block, our initial thoughts were 'Oh no!' expecting lots of noise, we were so wrong there was none everyone was considerate.
I have never been to a campsite so quiet and idyllic. I love the fact that each unit had a hedge to the rear, so no back on back with other units.
The toilet blocks were spotless and the showers were actually individual rooms rather than a block.
We will definitely be coming here again.
Ideal location for Charmouth, Lyme Regis and beyond, great access road to all of Jurassic coast and beyond.

Wow, what a fantastic site, need I say more.
Two shower blocks, we were located near the smaller of the two blocks, fantastically clean and modern and checked 4 times a day.
Pitches were huge, site is huge and they do not cram people together. Hardstanding was fantastic, well looked after and well maintained.
Staff on site were lovely, friendly and made a real effort to welcome, they did not intrude and were very relaxed.
Wi-fi on site was a little expensive but worked a treat. Didn't have young kids, but there were two big play areas, and plenty of space to kick a ball and just be kids. Only let down was the size of the dog walk, very small but the area has plenty of alternative dog walking.
Area well worth a visit and nearest large supermarket is in Axminster about 3 miles away.
Will definitely be returning to this site, other camping and caravanning club sites take note this is the standard you should be achieving.

A lovely site, beautifully landscaped in a quiet location.
Facilities were spotless, and thoroughly cleaned every day. Our nearest toilet block only had 2 showers, which were always busy in the mornings, but the other block had 5-6 showers, which were always empty!
Staff were very friendly and helpful whenever we spoke to them.
A Baked Potato van visits on a Friday night and Fish and Chip van on a Wednesday.
The local pub (Hunters Lodge) is OK although we didn't eat there, we were able to walk there and back in the evening (about 1 mile each way). Unfortunately there were no other pubs within easy walking distance.
Site is in a handy location for Lyme, Charmouth and Axminster.
Charmouth beach was disappointing with constant hammering of rocks by fossil-hunters (both adult and children) on the beach.
Our much anticipated visit to River Cottage Canteen in Axminster was also disappointing, with only average food rather highly priced.

Nice site, staff friendly. On arrival we were allocated a pitch in the area we thought looked OK on the map. Looked good at first, quite handy for the toilet block. It was only later in the day we realised the path next to our pitch was very busy. We were kept awake late and woken very early by the foot traffic
Despite the hassle of moving, decided it was probably best. Asked at reception and it wasn't a problem at all, we could move straight away.
Our new pitch was great, to be fair if we hadn't asked for the other area we probably wouldn't have been put there.
Great site for kids, two good playgrounds, lots of space to play.
Shower/toilet blocks very nice, but could do with a few more. There was always a queue, unless you went mid-day. There was often a queue for the toilets as well as showers in the gents.
Quite a few large groups in tents, they weren't noisy though.
The beach at Charmouth is great, especially if you have a dingy.
Would possibly return if they increased the number of showers/toilets.

Just returned from a fantastic 3 nights at Monkton Wyld. What a lovely site!Phoned on the off chance 2 days before (during half term) and were told that as we only wanted to use the touring field, they could fit us in no problem. They were very friendly on the phone.
When we arrived the reception staff were lovely and we were shown to the field by a man on a buggy. He told us where the water taps were and the directions for the toilets etc.Very helpful.
The touring field is just a large flat field with 2 drinking water taps and a rubbish bin area. No ehu's but this was all we wanted. Plenty of room for our 2 children to run around in.
To get to the toilet block, you had to walk through a lovely little wooded area and it only took a couple of minutes. The toilets and showers were immaculate. Plenty of free hot water! Great covered dishwashing area. All sinks had a jaycloth next to them so people wiped up after themselves.
The pitches in the main site with ehu's looked immaculate.
The children's play area was good, with plenty of open space as well as play equipment.
The shop in the reception area had all the basics you might need and there were folders containing useful local information such as places to eat out, walks etc.
The field we were in also had a few picnic benches, useful as we are not so well equipped so were able to move one near to our tent and use throughout our stay.
Lovely fossil beaches only about 10 mins drive away.
Would definitely stay here again!

A beautifully well kept site in a lovely area, not far from Lyme Regis where there is a lovely sandy beach great for young children.
The toilets are a top priority of mine and I have to say they were lovely and clean, though my husband, myself and the lady next door both had a cold shower on the first morning, and on a site that wasn't even half full found this very disappointing.
The receptionist was just leaving on our arrival and wouldn't even make eye contact, can understand she wanted to get home but all she had to do was say hello and point us in the right direction for late arrivals, luckly another site worker came along 5 minutes later and helped us.
The play areas are as well kept as the rest of the site. Had read other reviews so on booking had requested a pitch away from the road and have to say it was very quiet.
