We found the site to be quite clean and tidy although I agree with other comments that the loose stone roads were a bit tight on corners and uncomfortable underfoot.
The toilet/shower facilities were average and looking a bit tired - I never once saw the lights on so it was a bit gloomy inside and noticed there were no proper female hygiene bins in the toilet cubicles, just little swing top bins.
The pool and children's play area was clean and well kept and was a great social meeting point for the many children on site.
The pitches were pretty level (not totally) and we noticed the drop between the terraces was a bit precarious for the little-uns as the boundary walls were very low.
The thing that annoyed us most was having to move pitches twice during our four day stay. We were warned about this when we booked but when it came down to it, we were annoyed that we had had to move and in our place arrived a day-van with no awning etc, a guy on his own who could easily have been placed anywhere on the site. The second time we were due to move the pitch was still occupied by someone else so some negotiating had to be done via Wally, the excellent warden, as the bookings had obviously been messed up. After we moved, we were even more annoyed to see several empty pitches which made us feel we had been moved for no valid reason.
The site is very well located for visiting Cowes on foot and has great views over the Solent. However, comparing it to the few other sites we have been to we felt it could have done with some updating of the facilities and more care over the landscaping. The 'wild flower meadow' near reception was a bit of a laugh. It just looked like a patch of land they didn't know what to do with.

We stayed here on the bank holiday weekend.
We arrived late and had to find a space as they are not preallocated. This meant we finished up on a slope which is not ideal. It is also quite a trek up the hill to the toilets. We didn't really use the clubhouse or pool.
The camping was very busy due to various festivals which were on so very active at night.
Excellent access into Cowes - a few minutes walk and over the chain ferry. The car ferry terminal is minutes away also making it an ideal location.

When I called to obtain some more info on the site and prices they could not have been more friendly and helpful. The price quoted was very reasonable and the fact that they took away all the hassle of booking the ferry also made it even better. I looked on the internet at Red Funnel and compared the prices I was quoted and as advised, it was cheaper to book through the campsite.
We caught the 8am ferry from Southampton and arrived on site at 9:20am. Even though we were over 3 hours early for our check in time they allowed us to go and pick our pitch straight away as they were not too busy. We set up tent in the pouring rain and the holiday began (They were also in no hurry to get us off site on our last day which was fab)
We stayed for 3 nights and could not fault a thing. The park was very clean and well looked after. The staff were very friendly and helpful and toilet / shower blocks cleaned regularly. We did not have to queue to use any of the facilities. There is an outside swimming pool and small paddling pool on site which looked very clean and plenty used this although we did not. Also the club has evening entertainment and a small games room. The prices are again very reasonable.
The field where you stay if you have your own tent, is like they say in other reviews on a rather steep slope. Which means a steep walk to the toilets! Don't leave it too long before you start the walk up there! However I was 6 months pregnant when we went and apart from the 1st day we had blazing sunshine and I still coped.
We were lucky enough to have a large part of the field to choose where we pitched our tent and chose under one of the trees. Great though this was as it was a bit more level and shaded, we did find that the birds congregated in the tree above and yes you guessed it, there were lots of poop incidents!
The view from the campsite is fantastic, looking right out over the solent. The kids loved watching the ferries going in and out. We also saw some amazing sunsets.
The location is great for just simply chilling out in a family environment but also for exploring the island. There are a few local shops within walking distance and a local paddling pool right by the sea front all within 5 mins walk from the site also a little snack cafe. The shops were handy for stocking up on food as we cooked by gas stove. Everything was within easy reach and we went exploring.
I would highly recommend this site to anyone wanting a base to either explore the island or just simply chill out. The great thing we found was within 5 mins of getting off the ferry we were there on site. Which when travelling with kids was ideal. A very well loved site.
A fantastic holiday had by all and will definitely return with the new addition next year.

Our 1st visit to the Isle of Wight. Nice straight forward ferry crossing, site was just minutes away from the ferry port in Cowes
The site was very clean and tidy, pitches have their own water tap and drain as well as hook up, small shop on site. Laundry facilities, showers and toilet block very clean and hot water
The island was a joy to visit lots to see and do and would return again.

Another fabulous holiday.
Been going here for twenty years & would go nowhere else for our summer holiday. Now the terracing has been done it is wonderful, no more problems to get on with the flat pitches. Views are not restricted so fabulous views of the Solent & all the ships out of Southampton. During Cowes week it is very busy but it adds to the atmosphere. The club gives something for everyone and kids & well behaved dogs are most welcome. I have no kids but they are not a problem to us as long as they are enjoying & well behaved.
The family do their best & make you very welcome & the staff are brilliant. Wally is a gem & will help all he can & the bar staff are second to none. We recommend this site to everyone but try it for yourself & see.

We spent a week here in the Summer - a combined ferry and touring site deal.
The park itself was adequate. The clubhouse is a little tired but their prices are very reasonable and good value.
They offer live entertainment most nights in the form of bingo, singing, horse racing etc
The pitches themselves were well sized and had their own water and drainage.
Driving onto the pitch was a little hairy! Very tight bends etc.
The pool needs a little bit of TLC, it looked quite dirty so we didn't bother using it.
The island itself is lovely and we enjoyed exploring it!

We've just arrived home from the site after 5 nights there on a Red Funnel break. We have stayed here 4 or 5 times in the last 20 years and this time came away disappointed. The site is on a steep slope, and to enable level pitching has recently been terraced. As a previous review mentions, this meant we were unable to leave our 3 year old to play outside the awning with pram/ball etc as it was too much of a hazard (5 - 6 ft drop to the pitch below). Also, our pitch was not level, resulting in a hairy few minutes to get the van on face first, as the pitch dictates. This probably would not cause any worries if you have a motor mover fitted. The large gravel on the road was very uncomfortable underfoot, and far from quiet when driven on. The entry/exit point is a very tight bend and did cause concern when leaving, even for my HGV driver husband. The water/seaweed regularly smelled and was very grim.
The toilet block was an uphill walk going, and were never so busy I had to queue. They were reasonably clean, although never anything to write home about, and often very wet underfoot. A couple of times the water just stopped coming and you have to hold the button in constantly to get water, but on the whole were warm and sufficient. My husband complained about the layout in the gents, saying there was no space between toilet cubicles and shower cubicles meaning whilst washing he felt a bit too involved in other campers bowel movements (sorry!).
The playpark was tired, but this did not deter my daughter, and the range of play equipment was good.
The bar and swimming pool had closed for the season, however, during our brief stay an old static van was noisily and precariously moved to the pitch directly beneath us (obscuring our view), and in between 2 other occupied pitches and work was undertaken on the pool using a jack hammer. This was most upsetting, as along with the smell and the lack of safety for little one this noise was the final nail in the coffin of our quiet break.
The only real positive I can give is the proximity to the chain ferry and West Cowes, very doable on foot as long as you can take a steep hill. It is also well situated for venturing to the rest of the island.

What a great site! Very generous pitches and lovely and clean. Great view from the small clubhouse / bar at the top and really good meals - tasty and quite cheap too!
There is a fabulous heated pool and a little play area for the kids which they loved. Staff are extremely helpful. Top tip is book early as its very popular. Dogs are allowed. All the family - from age 3 to 75 enjoyed it.

The campsite is perfectly sited from the ferry at East Cowes with views overlooking the Solent. We fell in love instantly, arriving on a sunny day and heading straight for the pool, which the kids loved.
There are hardstanding pitches with your own water and waste water supply and are all located on flat terraces looking out to sea. (Be warned the site is hilly so be prepared for the uphill walk to the loo block!)
The camping area was on a slope, although there was one tent using a flat terraced pitch.
We used the club house on several evenings - even the dog was allowed in and we ate there once. The food tasted fine and was reasonably priced.
The showers were warm and clean and I never had to queue. The only downside was that the floor was always wet from the showers and kids from the pool using the loo!
Although there was no designated dog walking area there is access to a wooded area outside the bottom of the site for the public to use.
We used the site as a base to tour the island as the only beach nearby was very smelly and not very clean.
We will definitely be going back!

We stayed at this site over Easter via a Red Funnel deal for 5 nights. The site has newly terraced flat pitches some with unrestricted sea views. The weather was kind to us and we had a great time. The showers / toilets were of high standard but I believe they are updating the pool / bar area as this is a little out dated. The is a great base for ferries and all places in the IOW. The staff were very helpful also.
Was there a downside ? well if we had booked direct with the site and independently with Red Funnel then we would have got a better deal and been able to stay at the site longer. There is also a tight bend as you pull on / off the main camping area and this should be reviewed as some had difficulties negotiating it. The terracing may cause some concerns with families that have young children as this has caused a potential fall hazard of about 4-5ft onto the pitch below.
We would definitely go back as we had a great time
