Firstly forget the other reviews. The site is clean (watched the bloke on the tractor empty the bins 3 times in 4 hours). The toilets are clean (and with toilet roll) and showers are 100% (but a little dirty after a sunday morning because of all the people staying at this fantastic campsite) but there again how can any campsite keep them clean.
Must say that in all the camping I have done this site must be about on par with any continental campsite. We stayed in pitch B1 and it was great. Only a few yards away from the woods. Which in turn went down a bank and onto the salt-marsh. Lots of birds. Lots of mud and if you have a jack russell, lots of muddy feet lol.
We had a great time and have booked to come back in August. If you're down to earth and don't mind muckin in then this is a great site.
Pubs only 10 mins away (but £3 a pint) have a great time (it was the first time camping for the missus and it was her that re-booked).

Stiffkey campsite is situated on the North Norfolk coast on the landward side of marshlands that go all the way to the sea at high and mid-tide, but at low tide you will have as far again to walk to the sea, and over either sand or mudflats. As the tide comes in, the sea quickly meanders it's way along extremely muddy creeks almost right up to the campsite. There is a small National Trust car park to the north-west corner side of the site, and perched on the highest bit of ground next to the car park is a small wooden hut that provides a perfect spot to sit to watch the marshes as the sun sets.

Once on an evening a gentleman was playing his Northumbrian pipes from there and the sound lilting over the marshes at dusk rounded off a perfect sunset and that, folks, is what this area is all about: the sounds of curlews and skylarks, the marshes, the mud, the crabs, the light, i.E. The unspoilt landscape. If that's not what you enjoy, stay well away, you'll hate it.

As you approach the campsite, the hut from whence all reservations and administrations are conducted is situated on your right at the entrance. You are requested to not go onto the site before registering. The tide times are also displayed here and if you are going far out onto the marshes it is suicidal not to acquaint yourself with these. You can actually walk far enough out to see the seals if there is a good low tide, but you must know when the tide will start to come back in. It comes back in very fast and fills creeks behind you with fast moving water before you know it. It will cut you off if you are not careful.

The campsite itself consists of a large sloping field surrounded by a tall hedge on the west side (your left as you enter), and by a narrow strip of trees on the North (seaward) side, and by a separate fixed caravan site to East (your right as you enter) and by large farm buildings on the landside.

The nearer the farm buildings you are, the harder the ground generally. It seems that there was a concrete surface there once long ago and so the earth is easier to peg the further away you get from that side of the field. If you are along that edge do some prodding before you commit to your final tent placing to make sure you can get pegs in. Wherever you are on the site you will find the soil is stony in places.

At the other (seaward) side of the site, you are essentially at the bottom of a hill, so if the weather is extremely wet this area would not be my first choice of pitch. Also at certain times of year, (whenever it is that the earwig breeding season is in full swing) you will find the inside of your bags and all open containers, that you so carefully hung from the highest poles and points of your tent to keep any marauding critters away from anything edible, will be absolutely heaving with the little varmints. They crawl up the tent fabric and drop down into the bags! Cunning or what? This location is the best for hedgehog spotting though. If you leave a mug of hot chocolate out they will come to you and wake you with their snuffling inside your tent, so have the camera and flash ready!

If the weather is very windy, which it can be on this exposed site, the best protection against the elements is usually on the western side under the high hedge as the wind seems to come more often than not from that direction. However you will not see the sun set from there because it is on a low side of the site.

The best place for views of the sun setting over the marshes is from the highest point of the site which is the central area and on the westerly slope of the site from the centre, i.E. Any of the higher ground to the west of the toilet/shower block.

We have been coming to this campsite for a very long time, long enough to remember when the toilet block was a corrugated structure, so for us the arrival of a brick shower / toilet block was the height of luxury. The toilet block itself is modern, more or less centrally placed and the number of loos, showers and sinks is adequate most of the season but struggles a little when really busy. It would not really be possible for the staff to keep it 100% clean as the main pastime for kids is to get absolutely covered in mud in the marsh creeks; I doubt whether the showers in any other campsite in the UK has this much mud to contend with!

This really is known as a family site, and my experience is that whilst there are usually lots of young children, they have always been well behaved and generally seem to have left computer games and other annoying electronic devices at home. Overly loud music is prohibited, certainly if it is causing a nuisance the staff will intervene and I have seen a few inconsiderate persons asked to leave during the years I have been going. Noise should be kept to a minimum later in the evening. Small barbeques /fires are permitted provided they are raised off the ground.

Inconsiderate raucous types usually get weeded out before they get onto the site although Its increasing popularity does means that occasionally you get groups who drive the latest and biggest and shiniest cars and who turning up very late seem to think they own the place. Rather than respectfully and quietly ensconcing themselves they are inclined instead to hold forth, either on the nose of the latest bottle whose cork they just popped or on the provenance of the fish roe they seem to want the world at large to know about, last thing at night.

Consequently when those young children of lesser mortals who got their heads down at a reasonable hour and who equally rose at a reasonable hour (for kids) and who are quite rightly tearing round enjoying themselves yet probably making less noise than the seagulls and pigeons did earlier at dawn; those well heeled lot, whilst obliviously inconsiderate the night before, unequivocally declare their belligerent exception taken at very normal morning camp-life, thus causing them to be held in even deeper contempt by the regulars.

Whatever the nature of such square pegs they usually realise this is a round hole to them, and leave. So apart from the occasional hiccup it is a very peaceful and smoothly run site.

We used this camp site on May bank holiday. This was a brilliant site with lots of room. Staff are helpful and friendly and the facilities were very clean.
The perfect base for walking the coastal path with the coasthopper bus stop just a short stroll down the road. The pub was alright but a bit expensive for beer but food looked good. Staff could never do enough on site to help. We will be visiting again.

What a fantastic campsite. The location is excellent, plenty of walks and a pub within 5 minutes walk.

The village is lovely, there was a small shop, but as we only stayed one night we did not need to use it so cannot comment on how good it was.

The showers and toilets are the best I've seen on a basic campsite, very clean and plenty to use. I would stay here again for the showers and toilets alone!

As we were a party of four adults we were advised where the families would be camping - a good move all round I think, we're not rowdy and don't have a problem with kids, but have found this way of organising a camp site far better all round.

We chose this campsite at random from a book and were extremely glad that we did!

On arrival the staff were friendly and informative. The pitch we had booked was spacious and 'out of the way', against a hedgerow, (if any pitch on a camp site can be 'out of the way' in August).

Although the site office is not large, simple but important things had been considered carefully. For example they offer; ice pack rental for just 20p an ice pack, mobile phone recharging for a small amount, maps of the local area and gas. The staff remained consistently friendly and helpful throughout our stay, giving us tips on how to walk to local villages and towns along the coast and good local shops to go and do our shopping in. However, we did notice that some guests were quite rude to the staff and were not prepared to ask for, or listen to, advice given. This was disappointing as it was well worth listening to. For example, we learnt a safe route through fields to the local pub, which saved us a treacherous walk along the busy Norfolk country roads.

Facilities on the site were basic and offered a reasonable standard of hygiene. Cleaning was carried out at regular intervals. However, this is a simple, family run, 'no frills' campsite and facilities were generally as clean as the last person had left them. This clearly annoyed some guests staying on the site, but if 24 hour, on site, domestic staff is the sort of requirement you have, then chose another campsite.

We found the local pub, 'The Red Lion', excellent for food and beer, but booking was essential as it got very busy in the evening. Staff were friendly and polite, as long as you were friendly and polite to them.

We found many lovely places to visit within walking distance of the campsite and saw many exciting wild birds. The close proximity of the campsite to the salt marshes made it easy to adventure out onto the marshes and nearby beaches, but quick tides meant it was essential to invest in, and regularly consult, a tide timetable before venturing out.

We have already planned our next visit and hope that this is a site that we continue to be able to visit for many years to come!

Neat, simple, clean site. Very busy in summer holidays, but spacious pitches. Warm, helpful, friendly professional managers: nothing too much trouble.

Vegetarian notes: 3 Horseshoes, Warham voted best choice and quality for veggies, plus warm and welcoming. Excellent beers and real lemonade. Red Lion OK, but not cheap or particularly well-cooked. Staff bored and officious. The Balthazar tapas/wine bar in Holt was good, (but veggies need to insist on a suitable combination of dishes). Chequers at Binham OK, but food rather dry and churned out. Good store at Stiffkey Post Office; Wells Deli, on the harbour had wonderful food (veg and other), good coffees and superb friendly service. Cley deli also a good resource

Use the Coasthopper bus – super value, regular service, great for linking walks, days on Holkham and other beaches.

Bean’s seal trips really good – do plan so as to stay “ashore” at Blakeney Point and walk over to the sea-side of the point

One night stay for us - no electric hook up which was fine. They take tents and campervans / motorhomes - but not caravans.

Plenty of space - site was fairly full but no noise - may the sun setting a little early stops some of the noise.

Toilets / showers - 100% ok - clean and working - plenty of hot water.

Site owners/ wardens very friendly - full of advice and helpful suggestions where to get provisions etc.

A small store in Stiffkey - catering to tourists for sure - but lovely bread, cheeses and gifts - worth popping in.

It is cool. We come here on holiday once every year and I always play in the wood and make new friends. It is near the seaside, The Red Lion Pub, Sheringham, Holkham and the saltmarshes. I like the Stiffkey Stores although it's a bit expensive there, the people in the shop are nice though and they sell really nice things.

At the campsite the toilet block is a bit smelly and a bit dirty, not always though. Especially when people have been swimming in the marshes.

There is lots of space to play and there are a few swings in the wood.

I give the campsite a rating of 10/10. August bank holiday, Stiffkey have a fete on at the sport's field with live bands and it's really good.

There are a few bins for recycling, they have signs above saying what to put in them but some people are just lazy and throw anything in there.

There is a washing up room, laundry room, showers, girl's toilets and boy's toilets. Also some hose pipes for anyone to use, for drinking water and stuff.

Great site with really friendly owners who couldn't do enough for us. Booked at the v last minute as we had to cancel west coast of wales due to biblical rainfall. Owners were very helpful and offered what turned out to be an ideal pitch. We liked the fact that it was a 'proper' camp site with numbered pitches and no mobile tin tents . Facilities were basic but v adequate and cleaned on a regular basis. Loads of endless hot water. Freezer available to maintain the chilly bin and calor gas available to buy. There was a real feeling a having space on the site with a big field kept unoccupied for ball games etc. The only slight inconvenience was no washing machines on site (although there are two designated sinks). With two ankle biters, the prospect of handwashing isn't an attractive prospect. However the owners directed us to a laundarette nearby. In summary, a safe and friendly site with great views, great local shops, great mackerel fishing and a cracking boozer. We're planning another pilgrimage soon.

I really did not like this campsite and some of the previous reviews sound to me like a completely different place. We stayed here for 3 nights having been booked in by some friends we were meeting. I found the toilet/wash facilities to be consistently very dirty throughout our stay, to the point where I was reluctant to put anything down on the sink areas and I don't consider myself to be a very fussily clean type. The campsite was packed to the gills with families for the school holidays but I still don't think you can excuse this level of uncleanliness.

I didn't find it be a particularly friendly site which may just be related to how crowded it was at this time. The queues for washing up were often very long which is never fun !

There aren't really any facilities for the kids which is fine as they can make their own fun but there was very little space in and around the tents for them to play resulting in a lot of kids invading other campers space and tearing around the tents on their bikes.

As for the Red Lion pub we arrived there very hungry after a long day out and we spent a little time choosing and after the bar staff took our order in full and I got out my card to pay they said their card machine was broken. When I checked my wallet and realized I didn't have enough cash to pay for 4 meals and drinks she was quite rude.

We subsequently ate in the Chequers in Binham which I couldn't praise enough for the extremely high quality food at reasonable prices and the charming and friendly proprietress.
