Stayed here for just one night and really enjoyed it. Lovely, small, friendly site overlooking the marshes and beach.

It can take about an hour to walk down to the sea though, and don't forget to check the tides at the warden's hut.

Toilets and showers were clean - no complaints.

Walking distance to the Red Lion pub in Stiffkey which does great food.

Would definitely return here.

Our first stay coincided with the longest day (June 21st). The camp site was busy but there were still a few spaces, if a little sloping. However, I disagree with the peace and solitude mentioned below, there was someone playing saxophone in the far corner of the site and fireworks!

But this was a Saturday night and by Sunday the site was almost empty. This is what the site is all about. It's tranquil surroundings are superb, the toilet block, washing up facilities and laundry are some of the cleanest I've used. The North Norfolk Coastal path runs along the bottom of the site so that Morston is only a couple of miles one way and Wells 3 the other.

We didn't use Stiffkey Stores as for once we had enough provisions but it is only a 10 minute walk through the village.

When we visit North Norfolk we have always stayed in Wells, however after staying here I doubt we will go anywhere else.

With reference to the Stiffkey Red Lion and surrounding pubs you're never dissapointed. Try the Three Horseshoes at Warham for tasty food, it's only 3 miles away.

All in all if you want peace and quiet this site is fantastic between Sunday and Thursday (if you can ignore the Wood pidgeons!)

A return visit since May last year, arriving mid week to a very peaceful campsite (about 10 tents already in situ). It did fill up by the weekend though but never encountered any noise problems, I suppose there can be noise problems during peak periods although personally I try to avoid these times.
Nothing to add regarding the facilities on site as these have already been well covered. Had no problems with the cleanliness of the toilets or showers which I thought are suitably adequate considering the rural location of the site and the general rugidness of the surrounding area. As regards the lighting of the campsite, I prefer it that way, it adds to the general solitude of the place.
To see the seals without going on an organised trip walk east along the coastal path for about half a mile then walk via the wooden bridges (note tide times) across the saltmarsh out towardes the sea, the seals can then be viewed using optics of some sort. There are also some very isolated beaches out there too.
Someone mentioned that the campsite was in the top 50 of a Guardian review, however it comes with this accolade under wildlife section so if you are not interested in wildlife or walking, don't go!
As is usual when camping there we visited the Red Lion in Stiffkey I must say that the beer quality (real ales) has deteriorated a little since my last visit. I found the food ok, although a little pricey for what was served. For top quality real ales head for the Chequers which is about two miles south of Stiffkey village itself in the village of Binham and still has it's own brewery on site as well as excellent food.
I have been coming here on and off since 1984 and will no doubt be returning.

We have been visiting this site for more than ten years; and we know plenty of people who have been coming for much longer. Our last stay was Easter 2008; we'd planned to stay for five night but after three the weather beat us - especially when our gas bottle froze!

In the time we have been coming to this site it has been managed most of the time by one couple; Chris and Di, and they have now returned after a break of a year and are now working with another couple. We did have problems actually booking a place when they were not the managers; but we are very glad that they are back again.

I mention this because we are concerned that this site has received some negative reviews (see below). As far as the actual management of the site, we have never experienced anything but friendliness and professionalism from Chris and Di. As to the site; it is not a 'delux' site, and while the facilities are all that we would require, they do reflect the ethos of the site, which is that of a beautiful spot for people who value the location. And this just has to be the most stunning on the East Coast.

The site is situated on part of a farm, close to the car park for the creek. It does not offer hook-up; and there is a slope down toward the coast path (which passes the site). There is a central toilet block and washing up facilities, with a freezer for use of visitors. The village of Stiffkey is about a miles walk, with one pub (that appears to be well liked), and an excellent village shop that has lots of supplies.

The coastal path can be followed in either direction: one way to Wells and the other to Blakeney. At low tide there are miles of marsh and beaches to investigate, but care must be taken to remember the change of tides (information of which is on display at the site office). By car, there is the fascinating location of Little Walsingham, site of what is still a principle place of pilgrimage. Cromer and other sea-side resorts are also handy for day trips

This is a site that suits families, and people who enjoy walking and investigating the miles and miles of unspoilt wetlands and tidal beaches; and this is literally just in front of you! The sunsets here are really something, and what more could we ask, than to be sipping a cold beer while watching the sun set and the smell of ones barbeque?? On the minus side, there are other people here who can be a bit messy in the toilet block after getting muddy on the marshes.

To recap; this is a site that offers the cliche'd three top points for the discerning camper: Location, Location, and Location!

We stayed 4 nights over the end Aug Bank holiday and were able to pitch at a 1030am arrival time. The pitch (A4) was spacious and generally level. There was a public carpark behind the site, mainly used by walkers but this didn’t spoil anything.
There was an excellent shop in the village (10mins walk) which opened at 0830 and had a great selection of goods. We dined at the Red Lion which was dreadful - my crab mornay tasted like hot weetabix - give it a miss and try the 3 Horseshoes at Warham instead.
As per other reviews, walking along the coastline was fantastic and the local buses helped facilitate this. Also, the cycling opportunities were boundless with the national network and many quiet lanes close by.
Whilst this site’s location was great, I’m afraid several other things were not. The ‘laundry’ mentioned in previous reviews consisted of two sinks in a separate room - no washing machine or dryer. Showers - there were 6 in the ladies, along with 6 toilets, and similar in the mens. We never had to queue. Yes, they were cleaned once a day but that was not enough given the capacity of use. They were the dirtiest I’d ever seen and remained so for the whole duration of our stay. The showers were just about hot enough (they have a set temperature) and were operated by a timed push-button which lasted between 2-20 seconds depending on your luck. And if your luck continued, there may have been a couple of hooks in each shower cubicle to hang clothes / towels. But the fixed angle of the shower-head meant that these often got wet, as did any shoes left on the floor. I agree with other reviewers, lighting was a problem in that it wasn’t coming on soon enough in the mornings / evenings as it was centrally managed.
Whilst a chest freezer was provided, we had a bottle of wine stolen and some clever idiot thought it ‘a laugh’ to turn it off………. So for this facility to work, you have to trust your fellow campers…. Unfortunately, we also found the managers surly and generally unhelpful and were disappointed to see an unsympathetic response to several complaints made by other campers about a particular noisy and abusive family. Would I return here, not sure, thanks to the above.

Hmmmm. Can't agree with a lot here.

Rather surley staff. On a hill, & rather bleak.

Long way to get to the sea, but hey, different people have different ideas. We paid but we left. This time of the year, you can choose.

The place was clean, plenty of bins etc. Someone had mentioned the Chequers, but I was met with a blank stare.

This is a good site in a beautiful location set right next to the salt marshes of North Norfolk. About 10 minutes walk through those and you reach the sands of the beach although the sea always seemed impossibly far away!

The site itself is well laid out, pitches are level although there is a gentle slope to the ground. Facilities are good and include the usual toilets, showers, washing up sinks and a 'laundry',which consists of a sink. There's also a chest freezer for use by campers. There's no shop on site although the small post office/shop in the local village of Stiffkey is good (does a great range of vegetarian food). The local pub The Red Lion is great too and only a 10 minute walk. Use of the excellent Coast Hopper buses is very recommended.

On the negative side I found the maintenance of the toilets and showers a little lacking when I stayed there. They were only cleaned once a day and in the morning could look and smell a little on the rough side. Entry to three of the six men's cubicles was blocked although they were working fine which I found annoying. What's the point in having perfectly usable toilets and keeping them locked up (someone did find a way in and I used them with no problem)? The showers were also a little on the skew side and sprayed out towards the door to soak your shoes (all of the men's showers do this)! They are free however.

Prices are very cheap for campers without cars at a bargain £3.50 a night. Very reasonable! It's a peaceful and quiet site too which was welcome.

High Sands Creek has been recommended in The Guardian recently as one of their top 50 sites. I doubt if I would agree with that although I would recommend the site generally as a good place to stay in a beautiful location. Considering the bargain prices but averagely maintained facilities I'd say this scrapes in as a 7/10.Beware the dawn chorus of birds though, especially those #*&x@~# wood pigeons!

A great location. Our pitch was at the bottom of the field next to the salt marshes. With the tide out, we could walk for seemingly miles across them and the sandy beach. With the tide in, the water nearly reaches the camp site.

The staff really are very friendly and made us feel very welcome. This site also stands out for having good recycling facilities - something that I sadly haven't seen often. The facilities were good and cleaned regularly. There is a fabulous shop in the village, just 15 minutes walk away through fields, which helped us avoid the busy August traffic for a few days.

As we were there during the school holidays, the evenings at the site were busy with children playing until dusk

We visited in August for the first time as a family with 3 children (11,7 &6) and we had a great time.  Very relaxed , has a great feeling of safety & the people who use the site are lovely. The site itself did get very busy and the tents were quite close together which is OK if you like socializing. There was a  wide variety of musicians (guitars, saxophone, violins, accordions, flutes, to name but a few) camping at the same time as us and it all added to brilliant atmosphere very folk- ie.

The shower block was generally clean even though there was a lot of people using the facilities and at peak times we did have to queue for a shower -  the wait was worth it.

North Norfolk is beautiful with miles of beaches and a variety of RSPB wildlife sites so it is easy to pick quite, unpopulated beaches or if you prefer busier  ones.
We Will definitely be coming back to the site again.

We visited this site for our first outing with the trailer tent. Found the staff were helpful on the phone and when we arrived on the Friday afternoon, very relaxed feeling to the site.
The facilities were spotless on the Friday, but did take a hammering as the weekend progressed, but were cleaned every day. I would have preferred the lights in the toilet/shower block to go on slightly earlier as my toddler was spooked in there as it was so dark.
By Saturday night the site had filled up and we were getting a bit cramped and the noise level increased including loud music going on after curfew - which was irritating, but we were so tired it didn't really bother us - it would have been different if it was right next door tho.
The area was lovely and felt like we really got away from it all.

We have visited the area before but not this site and I have to disagree with the previous reviewer about the walk across the marshes giving you as good a view of the seals as the boat trips - it just doesn't - the boat trips are well worth the money for the experience of seeing the seal colony from only a few yards away.
