Spent the May Day Bank Holiday at this site, check in was fine with a good bit of banter and we were shown to our pitch. Toilets very clean with a few good touches e. G. Squeegees for the showers and cloths at the sink. So that, thanks to all other campers, the toilets were kept clean & spotless throughout the day. Plenty of hot water for the showers
Staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. Also plenty of information on days out and where to go in the information hut.
Great play area for children and the site was nice and quiet. I would definitely return to this site

Just returned a day early from this site after a wet Easter weekend, the drainage is not good (clay) and our pitch was a bit soggy to say the least. We were pitched at the bottom of the bottom field, quite a hike to the ablutions block, especially with a basket full of washing up! The ablutions block is clean and warm with plenty of hot water, sometimes a little too hot in the shower (disadvantage of push button showers). Good idea having squeegy blades in the shower, but why, oh why do the shower heads have to be eight feet up! No privacy cubicles in the block, just open sinks. The site managers are friendly and chatty, and we were shown to our pitch very quickly. The site is not what anyone could call pretty and is a very odd layout. The children's play area looks good, but having no kids can't really comment. The nearest pub, The Nags Head in Hulland Ward is now closed (as from Monday before Easter). There is nothing within safe walking distance as the road from the site has no footpath, however Ashbourne is about 3 miles away and is a pretty little town. Carsington Water is well worth a visit but will probably get very busy when the weather is good (unlike this weekend), it has a large pay and display car park and a good visitor centre with cafe and restaurant and waymarked walks from 1 1/2 to 8 miles.

We stayed on this site for a week in October 2011 with our caravan. The site is beautifully kept, the toilets, showers, laundry, & washing up facilities are spotless, with lashings of hot water.
The franchisees are very friendly & helpful.
We had a hardstanding pitch, not the best medium for getting pegs in to!We would have preferred to pitch the awning on grass, but the land slopes, & that would have been difficult.
All the pitches are level & easy to access.
The site is very easy to find, on the side of the A517, just after Hulland village. Ashbourne is about 2 miles away, & Belper about 10 miles. Both are well served with shops, restaurants etc. & together with Derby can be accessed by bus which stops about 100yds away.
There is some road noise, but nothing to worry about, very quiet at night.
On site facilities include a nice children's play area & a dog walk, neither of which we needed.
Plenty to see in the area, we visited Crich Tramway Museum & Carsingon Water.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit & hopefully will be back next year.

Really loved this site. Plenty of space on our pitch. Friendly warden helped hubby reverse our unit.H ad a nice relaxing 5 days.
Everyones kids and dogs all well behaved. It was a joy seeing children out on bikes or in the play area and not glued to TV or computer games.
Toilet/shower block typical CCC standard, very clean, great hot showers.
Would have put the icing on the cake, but Derby County beat us 2-1! Take a trip to Matlock Bath, really worth a visit.
Definitely will go back, to this site

Lovely site with spotless facilities. Never had to wait for shower even though it was Easter break, only annoying point was that shower turned off after about 10 seconds, but plenty of hot water. We was in 2nd field on hard standing against the hedge, was pleased that we were placed there. Kids loved the play area though grass was in desperate need of cutting (it had been dry for days, if not weeks, so no excuse not to cut). Would definitely go back. We visited Carsington Water (bike hire expensive) Kedleston Hall (Easter Egg Hunt and Ashbourne (lovely town, good supermarket, though traffic awful). Wonderful position to explore lower Peak District. A gem of a site.

Visited last week for 2 nights, hadnt been before. Found site OK. No one in reception, notice said find pitch and pay next day. Not a 'pretty' site, hedges, grass and gravel. Water point OK.
Toilet block looks good but lights on sensor. OK in the day but possibly a hazard at night. Standing in the shower with water running and the lights went out ! Had to open the door and wave the towel about. Not ideal.
Might go again in the summer, just as its handy for the area.

We stayed at this site given that the location was fairly central for us to explore the surrounding area.
There are lots of great things to do around and about this whole area.
Information about the site or places of interest was not given on arrival or throughout our stay, an information shed was available but we were unaware of its existence until our last day.
The toilets and shower facilities were new and kept very clean, although like most are closed for an hour for cleaning, unfortunately this time scale may vary by as much as half an hour, so be early to avoid disappointment.
After reading various reviews since our return home we have found out that there was a night shed with a toilet, which we were not informed about. We were also not informed about the apparent dog walk area.
The area was poorly lit on an evening.
Walking to the nearest pub was out of the question as the road was in our opinion dangerous to walk along day or night due to fast moving traffic and no footpath. This could be heard from our pitch at all times of the day. The site is also on a flight path with some quite low flying aircraft.
Slightly expensive given the amenities available, this is one site I'm afraid we will not be returning to.

My second stay on this site in 3 months - end of June/early July and aagain in September - both were truly enjoyable. In fact, I was also camped next to the six families (mostly Teachers it appeared) that someone complained of and I think the complaint is unreasonable.
It was a balmy summer night and they had a communal BBQ but all the kids were in bed by 10.30 and at 10.55 I heard one lady member of the group explain that there is an 11.00 noise curfew - which was very strictly observed.
Parts of the camping field are hard. In June/July, I had to break out my rock pegs but in September plastic pegs went in easily. Proves that you should be prepared for any condition.
I'll be going back without any qualms.
It's a great site: clean, well maintained and got great staff who are working to further improve it. The only problem I found (on my first visit) is that the entrance is on you quickly if approaching from the east.

After rediscovering the joys of camping this summer, we squeezed in one last camping trip before the boys [8 and 4 years] had to go back to school.
We chose Ashbourne as it was only 45 mins away and we know the area well. Firstly I would say don't follow the postcode or you will end up down a narrow lane 1 mile away! This is in the CCC handbook but as we were not members at the time we were caught out.
The site itself we thought was lovely. Just what we like in a campsite. Clean facilities and room for the kids to get out and play. On arrival we were greeted at reception and escorted to our pitch in the tent field which is slightly sloping and firm.
From here we could access the playing field, which has a climbing frame and football net or take a short 5 minute walk through the next field along mowed paths. Be aware that there are 2 small ponds along the path. Yes the main toilet block was away from the tent field but I don't consider a 2 minute walk a long way!
The night toilet [again yes it's in a wooden shed] was next to the tent field, through a creaking gate into the playing field. We did know when when our fellow campers used this facility thanks to the gate!
Both facilities were spotless whenever we visited.
The showers were clean and the 3 washing up sinks always neat and tidy. Watch out for the hot water at the washing up sinks, the sign says very hot water and boy do they mean it!
Seriously supervise your kids these taps run HOT.
The site is well located for trips out into Ashbourne 3.5 miles away which has Sainsburys and Waitrose along with interesting independants. Opposite Sainsburys is a good hardware store and in town a couple of outdoors shops.
We enjoyed Carsington water and the Tissington trail which are not far away [we drove to both].
All in all a nice site. If I had to pick a downside it seems to be near a flight path so there is some, not a lot of aircraft noise in the day but I didn't notice it at night or in the day after the first few hours.
Not wanting to end on a negative of what is good site, the best recommendation I could give is that we will be back.

We had a lovely visit at this site. The first field was terraced for caravans and motor homes. There was a reception/shop and an information shed. The toilets and showers were also at the bottom of this field. The next two fields were a mixture of tents, caravans and motor homes. We were on the third field which was very gently sloping but not enough to cause a problem.
The facilities were good and clean. The owner was very friendly and helpful. The showers and toilets were a slight walk from the field we were on although by no means excessive. They even supplied a small night loo shed that was very helpful (especially at night!).
There is a children's play area which is set far enough away from the camping field to not be too noisy. Shops are within easy reach by car. The site is also in very easy striking distance of Thorpe and Dovedale where you can have a lovely riverside walk including stepping stones.
I would certainly recommend this site and I would be very happy to revisit this site again in the future.
