A real gem of a site, it's been mentioned before in other reviews but it needs saying again.

Location, Location, Location !

Tucked away from the rest of the world this small site is heaven and rightly deserves it's 'Cool Camping' accolade.

The site is accessed from the main road between Dolgellau and Tywyn, blink and you'll miss it.

Friendly greeting from the owners and onto the site proper, we found the better pitches were found by taking the right fork once you emerge from the railway tunnel, not that the others up on the left are bad, it just seems they're more level up on the right.

The plethora of fire pits mean almost everyone can have a fire and the owners son comes round every evening with a trailer full of fire wood, we cooked exclusively on the coals which was magic ! So don't forget the marshmellows or the kids will be grumpy.

The rocky beach is easily accessed from the mid-point of the site and is delightfully empty if not a little tricky to walk along as the boulders are real ankle breakers, apart from that our kids did a fair bit of body boarding but take care to watch where the sandy bits are, something which isn't evident until the tide is out.

The facilities are basic and here is one area the owners could improve upon as they're essentially a cow shed with a couple of sinks, showers and loos for each gender, they are clean but very basic.

The showers are expensive at a pound a go but the potwash facility room was quite nice. There was also a rainy day room which looked a bit forlorn and would benefit from a good clean out and newer seating.

Please try the minted lamb burgers if you get a chance, you can buy these from the farmhouse and they're delicious ! Although we didn't venture off the site there seems a lot to do in the vicinity and the nearest village did have a pub but too far to walk.

You'll love this site if you don't mind roughing it a bit but if your thing is facilities and hook ups and comfort look elsewhere this place is not for you.

We love this site, have watched it get busier over many years, and understand that such a fantastic and special place would not remain the quiet place that we knew were so fortunate to visit.

However, we have been recently, and the prices for camping now make it a very expensive site in our view. Considering it has received so many good reviews on this site and in other publications, it is not surprising that the owners have decided to put up their prices, It was ludicrously cheap to visit not that many years ago.

We feel that the prices (£30 for two small tents) make this far too expensive to visit now.

We spoke to other campers who felt his was good value, but considering the basic facilities and the fact there seems to be no real limit on pitches, it is not surprising that during our visit we saw few of the regulars who would have been on this site every year in the past.

To be constructive, I see that other reviewers have mentioned the great people they have met, we found more litter on the site than ever before but the people we met were lovely, we feel that's its a shame that we are priced out of visiting our favourite place.

Incredible Location right by the Beach, stunning views and sunsets. Nice safe site for kids as long as they stay away from the cliff edge!(sounds risky but seems OK when you're there). Dog friendly AND you can light a fire! Can it get better than this.

Well. Yes it could, I stayed in high season and there seems to be no upper limit on pitches, be prepared to lose your view of the ocean at any minute!

Facilities are very clean and well maintained but are very basic and with only 2 showers and 2 Toilets it gets very cosy and smelly at times, I, like another reviewer pointed out have yet to enjoy a hot shower and washing up dishes can be hit and miss too, bearing in mind it costs £1 for shower, I think this is unacceptable.

Summing up, this site is expensive in terms of value for money and clearly needs some investment. But given the Location, the truth is they could offer even less and still be rammed all season long.

I had a great time as did my Kids, met some fantastic people on site. No campsite is perfect, but with around £10k spent on it this site could actually be the ever elusive perfect campsite.

Wonderful location, right on the cliff edge with a path down to a rocky beach. Watching the sun go down while drinking a glass of wine by the campfire was really special.

We stayed in mid July, and the site was really busy at the weekend, there must have been nearly fifty tents and caravans in all then and more firepits were laid out, so I wouldn't want to go in the 'high season' but on the Sunday night there was just three tents on our side.

We spotted the dolphins every day, as well as some interesting sea birds.

The facilities were basic, and kind of uninviting, but perfectly adequate. Deliveries of firewood were made to your tent every evening.

We didn't have any problems with the owners, we were booked in and paid what we were expecting to, although I agree they're missing a trick by not selling basic provisions as there's nowhere in walking distance to buy them.

Visited with a group of friends. A truly stunning location and plenty of choice about where to pitch when we arrived. Very windy on the Friday night- this is no place in rough weather for delicate tents! We paid 15 pounds per night for large tent, two adults and a car- brought all our food etc with us and didn't leave the site all weekend. Lovely atmosphere with campfires allowed.

Facilities were basic yet functional: loos/showers/pot wash/washing machine and dryer/chill out shelter, and generally reasonably clean and well supplied. However the hot water was at best intermittent- several of us had what can charitably described as tepid showers- a bit of a disappointment for a pound really- and the broken bracket in the left hand ladies shower is still unfixed.

Excellent. Very lucky with the weather, although did get quite windy in the evening, well worth taking a wind break!

Surrounding area beautiful, good base for Cadair Idris if you are feeling adventurous, or you could try the calmer surroundings of Barmouth.

We arrived on a Sunday, and managed to get quite a nice pitch. We stayed all week, and by Friday it was getting really busy, possibly due to weather, or just because people have discovered how beautiful it it.

Facilities are great. Lovely warm showers - three of them. They even had a hairdryer - amazing! Warm water at all times, regularly stocked up with toilet paper, and seemed to be regularly cleaned. Washing up facilities ace - mainly due to the view of the sea. There's also a washer and tumble dryer.

We paid £15 per night for two of us, the tent and car - which was well worth it.

The most wonderful thing about this campsite is that it's a bit higgldy-piggldy - they couldn't remember if we'd paid - but they're busy - they run a working farm. We just reminded them we had and all was fine. There are logs delivered in the evening - which are both huge and well seasoned and they sell lamb burgers for your campfire - yum.

Even better - there are fire pits, which is what real camping is all about, so you can snuggle round your fire gazing at the rather stunning sunsets.

Some of the pitches are almost on the beach - it takes 2 seconds just to go and get your feet wet. Lots of rock pooling. When we were there we saw dolphins playing the bay and herons on the beach.

Just a wonderfully chilled experience, really felt as though you had got away from it all.

This was our third visit. You can't fault the location and the fact that you can light fires is a bonus.

Very disappointed this time as one shower not working in the ladies block and I never managed a hot shower in three days. The basic facilities have never bothered us, but given the cost of the pitches, I think I should be able to expect all showers working and hot water.

Much better value wood for the fires sold this time and as usual we were very lucky with the weather.

Would still recommend it, but feel the owners should reinvest some of the income they are clearly generating.

This is a cracking site - situated directly above a rough rocky beach looking out over the Irish Sea. On a fair day its a lovely spot but even in the teeth of a ferocious welsh gale it has a rare beauty.

It wasn't that busy when we were here perhaps fifteen pitches occupied our closest neighbours were the resident sheep who take care of mowing duties.

Fire pits and supplies of wood available, really clean simple toilets and showers, low key and relaxed. It not five star and if you want hook ups and clubs and level pitches its probably not for you.

Highly recommended though, with plenty of great local walking and other activities - don't miss the rood screen church at Llanegryn or the hike up Cader on a clear day. Good local shopping in Tywyn at the Co-op thought its not the sort of site where you want to realise you forgot to get milk, the closest shop is a fair way.

Returned here after visiting last year. Location beautiful as always. Very disappointed to be asked for a higher amount on arrival than I had been quoted over the phone (2nd time this has happened). On a tight budget and had to negotiate a price but still ended up paying more. Weren't even written in the book even though I had booked 3 weeks before and phoned 3 times to make sure we were booked in and to make sure the price was correct (we had been caught out in 2010 by being quoted an incorrect price and had to turn round and find somewhere else). Decided to give it another go this year as it is such a lovely location but I'm afraid we will not be returning again.

We were asked after pitching our tent whether we had paid and to whom we had handed the money to and had to explain it was in fact to this person that we had given the money. I felt quite upset that I had to explain where and when I had paid.

After pitching the tent I was again approached and asked why I had pitched in that particular spot as it was felt I was blocking in a campervan near me (I wasn't and had okayed it with the owners of the camper). I was told to move, which I did. But once again, was very upset by the 'customer service' of the place

Felt extremely uncomfortable after all of this (plus had damaged poles) so decided to pack up early.

Amenities are still the same as last year. Queues for toilets as it was very busy. 1 shower out of order.

No hook-ups, very rural. Fire pit at most pitches.

Would take extra care with children due to the location (high cliffs) with sheer drops

The location is beautiful and a real gem. Very very strong winds (hence the broken poles), and there is no shelter as it is on the open coast.

Toured around for miles looking for something like this, just what we dreamed of, fantastic site. Initially taken aback by the position of the site from off the road but no trouble getting to it in our old vw.

We both voted it our favourite site and will be returning next summer to see it at its best. Sunsets and views to die for, stroll to the beach 50 yds, on site stone firepits, good toilets showers etc.

Fantastic place. Dolphins to be seen from along the coastal path, care needed as this is rugged and unspoilt.
