First impressions were not too good as it's quite a walk to the reception area, however checked in without any problems.
We were told to pitch up in the area for motorhomes and unfortunately the only available one was right next to the toilet block so there was constant to-ing and fro-ing over our pitch all day. We appreciate that we were there in the peak weeks but units were shoe horned into every available space, we were even asked to move our motorhome forward so that they could fit in some tents behind us!
The site is beautifully located on the beach, but quite a walk into the nearest town, however the route is perfect for cycling.
The toilets/ showers were fine and kept lovely and clean, but inadequate for the number of campers
As previous reviews have said too many rules - although we didn't have any children with us we thought it a bit mean that one of the rules was no ball games - extortionate wifi, and expensive for what you get. If we hadn't paid for 3 nights we would have stayed for the night and moved on as others we spoke to we're doing.

We visited this site this month the plots are of a good size and toilet /showers very good although you needed a 6 digit number to access them. Far too many rules exist on the site there is total silence on site after 10 pm no ball games of any kind and no children's area for them to play.
Very small shop limited supplies bread all frozen.
WiFi £5 per day per item.
Was not made welcome and would not be going back.

This was a very nicely located site, it was secluded and quiet although it was very busy weekend. There were a few dogs barking but not constantly and kids running around but well behaved. It changed over on Saturday to a more senior clientèle… ie over 60's.
We did find putting our tent up a bit of a challenge as the ground, we think, they have grassed over a concrete hard standing area which made it difficult to get pegs in. It seemed more set up for caravans/camper vans. We found the layout of the electric and water supply to be very good no long walks to get water…. ! Although some of these units had lights on top (ours was not operational) but it would have been overbearing during the night had it been on and glaring into the tent.
The only glare we had and enjoyed was when the sun came up in the morning and all you could hear were the waves crashing on the beach as the site was so quiet. It was brilliant at that time of day….
The site was well laid out and we found the toilet block and showers to be clean at all times that we used them. We had to remember the key code for the door which was difficult sometimes.
The pot wash and laundry were fine. There is a freezer for ice blocks but it was iced up. There was also a fridge but it has had its day!
We never used the club house but it is ideally located overlooking to the sea. We found reception to be welcoming and helpful when we booked in.
We used the camp site as a base to cycle from the site to Walberswick and back via the Suffolk Coastal Path, by road and by bridleway.
The Vulcan pub is 10 minute walk it has carvery at 8pm Saturday night and the main course is beautiful. Well worth a visit.
Leiston has Co-op closes at 9pm, Fish & Chip shop closes 8. 30pm, Chinese takeaway. We found most shops closed earlier than what we were used to.
But we will be returning…… when the weather is warmer again. As there is still loads to see and do.

My review on this site is slightly biased by the many happy years I spent there as a child in the seventies and eighties with extended family. My memories are of climbing trees, swimming in the salty, cold, North Sea, hiding in gorse and bracken, walking or cycling to Thorpness along the sandy bridleways, collecting the ice-packs from Bert in the mornings, the sweets, fish & chips and cinema in Leiston, the fun run and the occasional It's a Knockout on the beach and the many friends I made on site, with whom I played football, rounders, Frisbee, tennis or hide and seek.
I booked myself and my eight year old daughter into the site for the May Bank Holiday weekend, for three nights, which they regard as High Season. On arrival, the first thing I noticed was that, for business reasons, far more units have been packed into the camping field - almost to the point of no recreational space, however you can forget that as there is a strictly no ball games policy, but I was pleased to see the kids enjoying riding their bikes, swing ball and badminton. I then noticed the HUGE lodges installed right by the beach wall, overlooking the sea and so blocking any chance of a view of the sea for us mere campers! They also took up the space that us kids used to use to swing off and climb the trees - these lodges are currently being sold for £100k by the way!
I made my way to the club house, stepped over a huge dog and pushed past the bar-flys to the lady who took my booking. I remember her on the phone and wonder if her heart isn't into the job, where-as her husband seems a lot more friendly and enthusiastic. They found my booking (always that horrible pause) and charged me £67. 50. I almost choked! Not wanting to seem uncool, I paid on card and wondered if I simply hadn't checked the prices properly - true, I hadn't and I hoped I was going to get great service for £23 a night.
The facilities were very good, I must say. It was the first weekend of their new toilet block, which was clean. My biggest annoyance was the stupid coded entry system on the toilets which is VERY child un-friendly - try getting an eight year old girl remembering C9412Z and pressing the tiny buttons at dusk while desperate for a wee! I presume they stop passers by, but seriously, how many passers by do they get?
Being new, the facilities had their teething problems, including no flushing in any of the loos one morning, but I don't count that as a bad point and they resolved it by the afternoon.
The showers were clean and instantly hot. They would have been perfect if there was somewhere to hang all your clothes, wash bag and towel but there was one hook and I had to smile when I heard the bloke in the cubicle cursing as his trousers dropped off the hook into a pool of water - he then proceeded to storm off, mumbling about a complaint to the owner and agreed with me about the price we were paying for such impracticalities.
So, despite packing everyone in, it does seem as though much of the cash is being put back into the site (shame cliff house still looks like it is about to fall down), but I did feel the soul had gone from the place. I do wonder how many other nostalgic campers like me can see this, or are the sites responding to demand? I guess the site is not for my soul, but that is not to say I won't go back - I still think in this case, location cannot be beaten and while my daughter hid in the gorse, kicked sand and demanded sweets, my complaints are, as mentioned at the start, purely nostalgic.

Quiet site, level pitch. Lucky to have a hard standing overlooking the sea. One facilities block clean and tidy, washing up area and laundry.
Great site for walkers not so good for disabled. 100metre footpath to the sea but have to scramble down a steep slope to the water, shingle
Beach. Nearest cafe and pub is 0. 3 miles away along the coastal path, very uneven if you have difficulty walking. Site cafe/reception/bar is in the large white house on the static site. Cafe had good coffee but little else. Nice terrace overlooking the sea. Nearest shop is in Leiston too far to go just for a paper. Expensive site and had to pay for our dogs.

We had to book a minimum of 3 nights as summer hols but it was a lovely clean & friendly site right on the beach and one we would return to again.
Yes, the toilet block looked old but it was one of the cleanest we have used, in fact all the facilities were clean and looked after. We were part of a group of 3 families and we all enjoyed the site despite no ball games.
There was a games room/den with pool, table football & table tennis which our children enjoyed. The bar/lounge which included a shop/table which sold essentials was friendly and offered views of the sea.
This is not a large commercial site but a small friendly clean site with marked out pitches. We were able to enjoy the olympic opening ceremony by the warden.
Thorpness was a walk away and we enjoyed boating on The Mere and then another day we travelled to Walberswick for crabbing.

We have just spent a lovely few days over the Jubilee weekend at this site. It wasn't that busy when we arrived on the Friday but by Saturday afternoon it was full. Not much to add to the previous write-ups other than to remark on the waste disposal point. My husband, who gets the delightful task of emptying the toilet, said it is by far the worst waste point he has ever used, having to reach down into the opening to lift the lid before emptying the cassette. Not at all pleasant. However, we did see a Planning Notice to do with extending the toilet block so perhaps this will be improved when that takes place. The toilet block itself is ok, but will benefit from any improvements the owners can afford.
The other point which seemed to be quite acceptable was barking dogs! We have a dog ourselves (a quiet one) but although there is a Warden on duty (it wasn't obvious who the Warden is) at no point were the people concerned asked to quieten their dogs. Apart from that, it is a quiet and, as previously described by other reviews, all you can hear is the sea and birds (oh, and unfortunately, the rain on the roof of the motorhome) The ruling about no ball games is appreciated.
There were social events arranged, bingo etc which is good if you like to join in that sort of thing.
The club house has a patio which is surrounded by glass so you get some protection from the wind but can sit and enjoy the seaview whilst having a beer or two. Very nice.
The club house has a few basics on sale, which is useful if you run out of things.
The walk to Thorpness is lovely, try the local icecream at the Meare cafe. A horse and carriage does rides around the village etc, starting at £10 it looked like it was good value for money for a family. There is a very interesting little antiques shop to poke around in. So much stuff to look at.
Aldeburgh is a decent long walk away. It was very busy with lots of people about. Aldeburgh is a pretty little town, very quaint.
Walking north from the site, passed the power station you eventually get to Minsmere Sluice and can do the circular walks around the mere. No dogs are allowed around these walks. Keep going and eventually you will get to Dunwich (too far for me).
The power stations do not interfere with your enjoyment of the area, in fact they add interest.
The foreshore is full of interesting plants and flowers. Although mainly shingle, there is sand at low tide.
We had a meal in the Vulcan pub, that was nice, even our dog was given a few treats and made to feel welcome. The meal was reasonably priced and we felt good value for money.
We will definitely come back to this site but at a quieter time of the year. It is a very interesting area with lots to explore without having to take the motorhome off site.

Spent the weekend here on hard standing 50 yards from the beach. Power station a bit intrusive in the village centre but a 10 minute stroll soon leaves that behind to lovely beach and littoral walking/cycling. Super location in general with the Vulcan Arms a 10 minute walk along the beach. Saturday night's carvery excellent at a good price, good beer (3 real ales on) and a very quaffable red with the meal. Definite recommendation of the Vulcan. The other direction is a brisk 30 minute stroll to The Dolphin pub. On site restaurant closed in October for the winter. Toilet blocks are tired but clean, adequate with a dozen units but in high season I can well imagine long queues. Dog friendly area but why a charge for dogs at this site, a pound a night for a litre of water ! Will return for the tranquillity of this site and area but probably only out of season.

A very nice secluded & quiet campsite, The first thing I noticed after pitching was the tranquillity, all I could hear was birds singing & waves breaking on the beach (a little piece of heaven),
It is a nice quiet beach (pebbled) good for fishing & walking. Some nice cliff top walks towards Aldeburgh & a very nice nature reserve the other side of the power station. The Vulcan Arms is a 5 minute walk away & serves good food @ a reasonable price.
WiFi is available.
The Coop in Leiston is within easy cycling distance & sells everything you will need.
A visit to Aldeburgh is highly recommended as fish can be bought directly from the fishermen on the beach (dover sole £3. 60 a pound)
The wash block was spotless & in good order, a laundry room was also available.
There was absolutely zero noise or disturbance from the power station (not even traffic).

Arrived Thursday afternoon for two nights found staff very accommodating, was able to pick my own pitch as it was fairly quiet. Facility wise good, toilet block clean and adequate other than small hand basins. Location is great very dog friendly, excellent walks both along the foreshore and inland. If you want to know the weather forecast ask the guy who looks after the grounds and toilet blocks he was spot on. Bar and terrace at the Cliff house is good the Vulcan Arms just down the road serves decent pub grub and is dog friendly. All in all an excellent place to get away from it all for me and my dog.
