We stayed at Middle Woodbach for 5 nights. The first night it rained, as it had done for the previous week. The ground was not water-logged. Probably due to the site being on a hill, but the views more than made up for that. The farm is lovely and the welcome very warm. The showers are always clean. Sometimes you have to queue but never for long. Would recommend and would return. The campsite is about a mile and a half from the town but it's not a problem a lovely walk down or a short drive. It was surprisingly easy to find from the directions.
Bishops Castle is a lovely small town. We ate at the Boars Head and the Castle Hotel, both were delicious and reasonably priced. There are great butchers and delicatessens in town.
Would recommend and would return.

After reading the reviews here we couldn't resist a stay at middle woodbatch!
It is an amazing place, nestled in a rural valley. Set on a working farm it has a great atmosphere, with chickens and geese wandering around, a big pig by the two showers. The toilets all had little steps for little ones to use the sink or loo etc.
The steel drum fire pits were used every night, it sets a really good atmosphere.
We arrived on a Saturday and there were 17 tents in the steep bottom field (it had rained hard and this field drains best) there was another field with nobody in it.
The family field has got quite a slope on it, so be prepared to wedge things under your tables etc if you want level.
Its not exactly Derbyshire or the Lake District in terms of things to do, but then what the site has in terms of character makes up for that.
There didn't seem to be any booking system, just turn up pitch and pay when you leave. Which was disapointing as the review here says 10 pitches, and we were expecting something a little more cosy, when its full it probably could accomodate 40-50 pitches, which is rather a lot for 2 showers.
The owners were lovely, very friendly and helpful.
We will come back to this lovely rural escape.

I have just returned from a two night stay at this campsite with my children. The weather was appalling and streams ran down through the farm in torrents (great for a 3 year old in wellies!).
The facilities are excellent and kept really clean, which was no mean feat with all the mud!
The views were amazing and my daughter loved being able to toast marshmallows on our campfire. My son loved the wandering hens and other animals.
I would really love to return here sometime as I think it really is a lovely site and it would be great to appreciate it in decent weather, and without other campers behaving in a selfish manner.

We stayed at Middle Woodbatch for a very pleasant in June. Level pitches limited, with most lying on a gentle slope. The toilets and showers were pristine and generally accessible. It took a while to get to the washing up sink, which may have been due to one very slow Dad. The striking aspect of this site is the sense of space you enjoy and complete absence of traffic noise. Although we were assured that it was only one mile to the school in Bishops Castle, it certainly felt further along the single track lane. I was also more interested in the distance to the pub.
All in all this is a basic campsite (saying that there is communal kettle, fridge, freezer and microwave) which is excellent value for money and located in stunning surroundings. The family who run the site were helpful and polite. Will certainly return.

Just got back from a two night stay at this site. Chose Woodbatch Farm because of the rave reviews I had read on this website. I was certainly not dissapointed, it felt like we have our own little patch of glorious countryside, the view is amazing. We received a warm friendly welcome which carried on all weekend. The owners are more than happy to stop for a chat and talk about farm and country life. They are always helpful but never in your face.
We had a supurb pitch with glorious views. The toilet and shower facilities are spotlessly clean at all times of day and night, there are stools to help children reach the sinks, fresh flowers on the windowsill, ample loo roll and fresh hand towels. Each of the two shower rooms has ample space for the whole family and there is a sink and toilet in each. There is also a separate toilet so that you don't have to cross your legs while people are showering. This doesn't sound like a lot of facilities but as the site is limited by the owners to a small number of tents you don't have to wait long. There were probably about 12 tents this weekend and as they are in two large areas you never feel crowded.
There is a campers kitchen with fridge, freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster, again spotlessly clean.
You can also have a camp fire but you will need to take your own or ask to borrow one of theirs.
We were entertained for hours by the swooping swallows and housemartins, a pair of red kites soaring overhead and even a glimpse of a barn owl. The are also some very cheeky chickens and ducks and a huge pig.
My only complaint is that I had to come home! Will definitely be back this month.

We picked a lovely weekend to stay at Middle Woodbatch Farm. The area of Bishops Castle is beautiful and the town itself has everything you could want, a good selection of shops, great butcher and plenty of places to buy firewood for the open fires that you are allowed on the campsite. Can highly recommend the Three Tuns for a super drop of locally brewed ale and they sell flagons to take away!
Middle Woodbatch Farm itself is at the end of a winding lane and was the best campsite that we have ever stayed in. The facilities were excellent with great, hot, power showers (and no spiders!) an excellent kitchen facility for washing up and best of all a communal fridge and freezer, Mary the proprietor has even provided a marker pen so you don't lose your milk or sausages to another camper b y mistake. Brilliant!
Not many campsites are tent only and let you have open fires but Middle Woodbatch Farm gives you both. Our spot in the field had magnificent views which were breathtaking first thing in the morning. There were quite a few families with young children in the field but they were no bother at all and it was lovely to see all the kids make instant friends and play together. Great landscape with some excellent walks, maps for which were available at the Farm or from the Tourist Information place in Bishops Castle.
We cannot recommend Middle Woodbatch farm highly enough, it had everything the traditional camper could wish for, and a lovely welcoming family running the working farm. Thank you for a wonderful stay. Go to this campsite, you won't regret it!

This campsite is in a league of its own. It is set it the truly beautiful Shropshire countryside. Camping at middle woodbatch never actually feels like being on a campsite. I guess that's because it’s not really. This is a working farm, it’s just that a small (10) handful of pitches are made available. Never cramped and always relaxed, this is how it should be. The campsite and small B&B are loving managed by Mary and Steve. The facilities are way above what you’d expect, including two, spotless and warm shower rooms, one of which is ideal for families. I can highly recommend booking in for breakfast at the farmhouse.
Families with small children will love the experience of being on a working farm. My little boy loved chatting to the lambs, pig, cows, horses and chickens. It is in a perfect location for walking and exploring. Close to Bishops Castle, for collecting supplies and sampling a few beers at the three tunns.
Have been twice now – what’s certain is I’m going back…. It's got it all.

I know it's not camping but I thought you might like to hear about it! It's fab! We have also camped earlier this year at easter.
Both the B&B and camping facilities are very, very smart. The camping facilities are the best I have ever used. Private bathroom with fresh flowers. What more could you ask for? The mini kitchen is also really useful. The farm is in a beautiful settings with fantastic views and several walks you can do straight from the farm. Mary limits the number of campers so it is always tranquil.
The B&B is particularly useful if the whole family is going on holiday - grandparents can stay in the B&B, younger family members can camp.
Mary & Steve are really friendly and helpful.
Bishops Castle just down the road is a lovely village. In particular, excellent pubs with good food and real beer.
I really recommend this site, it's wonderful!

Just returned from 5 nights at this site, had a wonderful relaxing time, not a road in site and nothing but the sounds of the farm animals. The two shower / toilet rooms were immaculately looked after, always fresh flowers on the windowsill, a clean hand towel, hand soap and as much hot water as you needed (no qualms about putting the requested £1 per shower into the honesty pot). The camping field does slope quite a bit but as the owners do not allow too many tents at a time there is always plenty of room to pitch. No electric hook-ups, no caravans, heaven! Great area for walking, the Shropshire path actually passes through the farmyard and the village is 'Walker Friendly'. Also try Craven Arms, pick up some great walk leaflets from the centre there, the Three Woods Walk was wonderful. Loads of places to visit by car. Highly recommended.

We've had a wonderful weekend camping with friends. It was so good to arrive & then not use our cars at all. The views around are amazing, and we had some good walks that suited all ages. The children especially enjoyed foraging for wood for the fires we had in the evenings - It was this that made it more special as we were able to sit out despite the nights being cold.
The facilities are great, as are the fields you camp on, we managed to get a fairly level pitch this time though have coped when been on a slope. Watch out for the ducks at night time as they sometimes sit in the middle of the path on the way to the toilets!
This is our third time there & we're going back in August.
