We haven't been to High Moor this season, but have laughed all the way through the comments by blazeofglory. I have previously wrote something similar myself but your comments just hit the nail on the head. So funny but yet so true. Our problem though is that we can't stop going back. Just a point to bear in mind - all the staff are related!

Stayed for the weekend at this site and had mixed feelings about it. Everything is well organized and the staff are very friendly but there are a few things which let it down slightly. Stayed at this site for the second time, first time last October. Thought I would give it a second chance. It won't be getting a third! Be very careful if you have young children and like to visit the bar! The two don't mix at High Moor...... October 2005 After missing a sign (well hidden behind the entrance door to the bar) about 'No Puschairs' we visited the bar on the Friday evening, with my 1 year old daughter tired and dozing in her puschair. We ordered drinks and settled down to join in the bingo. One of the bar staff though it suitable half way through the bingo cailling to storm over to where we were sat and demand 'Move that puschair now!' - very unprofessional. An argument later ensued when I asked what the big problem was (a crying baby would have been worse) and was told fire regulations would not allow the puschair in. I work with fire officers and moreover, have visited many bars with my kids, and never heard this before? Rest of the site - well laid out, nice playpark for the kids, smallish shop but lovely pool let down by no changing rooms! Toilet/shower block spot on for cleanliness etc. April 2006 Same warm welcome at reception on arrival. We were sent the wrong way round the one way system by the receptionist (as was everybody else all weekend) and had to roll a huge boulder out of the way to get my caravan round without scraping it to shreds! Even though the boulders were left behind by a now gone long-termer. Same problem with the pool - no changing facilities. Showers had no hot water - even after sticking 20p in both of them! Colder than the arctic in April..... The fun really started on the evenings (again).
Guess where? The bar, that's right! Same miserable staff (other than the nice guy with the glasses who was very helpful all night - he didn't fit in at all!) Friday evening the kids were stopped from throwing paper airplanes on the dancefloor. Saturday evening, kids told not to run around the dance floor (these are 3 to 5 year old girls!) - BUT they could dance? When my 2 year old daughter dared to cross the dreaded 'tiled area' and come near the bar when I was buying drinks, I was told to remove her immediately. I jokingly replied "She's only two, I can't control her" - "Yes, that's the problem" came back the curt response. Some warm local hospitality eh? Oh - and I would love to know how come a family had a large puschair up all night in there on the Saturday night? The bingo caller even had to step around it to sell raffle tickets - but strangely never saw it. How strange? Oh, I know - they must have been static residents - different rules for them I think! All in all, the potential to be a wonderful site: Make sure the showers have hot water Send the arrivals the right way Build some changing rooms at the pool And sack the bar staff and get some that smile at ALL customers - not just the residents!

We had literally only just arrived at the site when we were shouted at by the warden/owner! There were two huge caravans in the parking area so my husband pulled alongside one of them only to be screamed at to 'park within a bay' despite the fact that there were no bays free - the caravans were blocking them all.
Anyway, we were camping with friends so made no fuss. We pitched in the rain so afterwards made our way to the bar area. Food was good although our children (5 and 7) were told off for being on the dancefloor (they were actually dancing!). My husband went to the bar to get the children some juice and the children were once again told off for being near the bar!
The swimming pool was 'manned' and the whistle was constantly being blown. The owners obviously don't like people enjoying themselves and I don't think I saw them smile the whole time we were there. We will never go back, although I have since been informed that they no longer take tents on this site. What a relief!

I read most of the reviews on this site and fortunately did not take any notice. Me my wife and three kids aged 4 6 and 12 visited the site on Spring Bank weekend. My first view was the reception which was very welcoming. The staff were very helpful and directed us to our pitch. The pitch was roomy and very dry even though it was grass, I had plenty of room for my caravan awning and large car on the pitch but did put it in the correct order, which, if other caravaners would do would make things very easy.
My kids thoroughly enjoyed the large play area in the centre of the pitches. The toilet blocks were very clean and well equipped, with hot water in the showers (20p for 7 minutes). The laundry / washing up room was also well equipped. The pool is clean and family friendly and although no changing facilities the showers in the toilet block were more than adequate.
The clubhouse is spacious and serves a good range of drinks and food (in fact if you go in the next few weeks try the lamb shank, it fell off the bone). All in all if you want a site for a good family holiday try this one, we will certainly go back !

May 2005 Just spent 3 nights. can't recomend highly enough. site is set out regimently, but is very well looked after. Imaculately clean and the staff very very friendly. Pool is fine and clean (a little annoying that there arnt any changing rooms, but I just used the mens toilet. More dificult for a woman with say a toddler). Toilets cleaner than I have every seen and large, no queuing. Ihe bar is the usual (aaaargh BINGO) but we make our own entertainment. The food is at a reasonable price and fantastic portions, if your hungry go for the mixed grill £10.50 but worth £20!!!! (liver, kidney, black pudding and the usual steaks, egg, chips, salad, mushrooms and onion rings!!!!). As said this site rates high with me.

May 2005 Without exception, all the staff were very helpful and very friendly. The toilet blocks were clean and there was no need to Q even though it was a Bank Holiday. However, the pitches were small and far too close together and set out in a regimented fashion in rows - very unattractive. The games room was scruffy. The lack of changing facilities for the pool made it unpleasant to use. It was irritating to have to take a key to use the toilet block - couldn't see the point as we were miles from anywhere and only campers would be using the facilities. It loked to me that the main reason for visiting the site was for the bar/club area - if that's your thing then you'll like this site, if not, the other facilities let it down.

April 2005 I found the other reviews for this campsite after I had already booked this site, unfortunately it was too late to get booked in anywhere else so we went anyway. What a mistake!! We prebooked hard standing to avoid getting stuck in any mud, however when we arrived and were given our pitch, the hard standing was not even visible it was a mud bath. Whilst we appreciate the recent bad weather, we should have been told on booking. The owners were understanding of the situation and told us to pull the motorhome back so the rear door could be exited onto the road (we were at the end of the internal road which was a dead end so this did not obstruct anyone and only overhung by a couple of foot. The next day someone came and very abrubtly told us to pull it forward, when we explained we had been told to put it like this due to the mud, the woman shrugged her shoulders and said 'move it'. As for the swimming pool, yes this was nice but I can't believe they build such a big swimming pool at the expense of changing rooms / showers. The only options was to do a 200 meter dash in the open air to the shower blocks! With regards the noise we were pitched pretty close to the exit of the club and the noise level was totally unacceptable from people leaving the club. This went on until late into the night with gangs of teenagers hanging around near the toilet blocks. Definately won't be visiting again!

October 2004 Stayed for the weekend at this site and had mixed feelings about it. Everything is well organized and the staff are very friendly but there are a few things which let it down slightly.
It has a lovely pool but no changing rooms, a nice games room with unlevel pool tables and no triangles. Cues to be fetched from the reception for fear of getting stolen. Pitches are very close together, once the awning is up you have to be careful not to drive over your neighbours waste master as the car only just fits between. There are very tight corners which makes it difficult to get your caravn out especially as a permanant caravan owner has decided to put large rocks on the corner making it even harder. Someone had already scrapped them with their vehicle.
Nice park for the kids which is also used by older kids at night as I imagine their parents are in the club. Not for people who want a quiet time as kids are shouting until about 11.00 just outside the caravan.
Thought the prices were a bit steep. I resent having to pay extra for electric when there is no option not to. This extra should be just put on the nightly tarif but this would of course make it look more expensive. This is a nice site if you have a few older kids but it is more like a small commercial site than a country retreat.

August 2004 I have been a seasonal pitch holder at High Moor for the past 2 years. An unbiased review: The regime is strict but most rules seem reasonable for a busy site. Nice playground for 4 to 8 year olds, good size free pool, attendant at all times, though kids should be supervised. Toilet facilities good but you pay for showers and driers. Good pub superb food. Site can be noisy after closing time, either revellers meandering back to vans, or small groups in awnings having a drink and laugh with friends. Nothing too extreme. Good par 3 golf course, and fishing pond. MY GENERAL VIEW. Good site for me and 5 and 6 year old kids. Owners ok if you keep on right side of them. Very clean site. I like it here and would recommend it.

May 2004 Well what can I say? I will start with the good points I suppose! The site is great as someone else said for all tents and caravans located aorund the park, you get to watch your kids playing. The staff were friendly, the pub was lovely and the food servings were huge! The bad points of this site was that I thought it was expensive to stay there and to top it all off you had to pay 20p for the showers, 20p for everytime you dryed your hair, 20p if you wanted to use the iron points, and I think the worst thing for me was the fact that when you went to the loo there wasnt any soap dispensers to wash your hands with! The shop was reasonably priced, but be warned if you own a tent they dont cater much for them cos everything in the freezer was to be cooked in an oven!
