We have just returned from southlands. This was our first ever visit to this site, but will be returning in a few years.we visited this site with friends who have been coming to this site for many years now and I can see why they return year after year.the whole of the caravan park is walled with tall conifers as are many of the different sections of the park.all the facilities on this park are first class and looked after the way they should be. The site is located at Newchurch which we found very central for everything their is loads to do on the isle of wight but unfortunately when we were here the heavens opened and it didn't forget to. Many caravan parks on the island were flooded out and even after all the rain we had this site only suffered slight grass damage of which the owner Viv, sorted as soon as the weather allowed him to do so .all the staff on this site were very welcoming and always had time to stop and chat. This is a child friendly site and is well looked after on some reviews some people have been upset by their stay at this site even slating the owner as not being child friendly but all I have to say is those people who let their children run riot day and night is have consideration for others, I have two children and two children who know how to play and respect other peoples quality time.

Southland Camping Park - All the reviews do this site justice.
As soon as you drive on, you can tell this is a well run camp site.
A warm welcome was given & the kids had a ride in the golf buggy as we were shown to our pitch. The site is well presented and it wouldn't matter which pitch you were on as they all appeared good.
The toilets are clean & tidy never had to wait for a shower or toilet. Break was taken in the school holidays. Plenty of sinks for washing up, again never had to wait. Washing machines, tumble dryers and plenty of rotary washing lines available, all well maintained and very clean.
For the children (ages 6 & 9) there is a park up the corner of the site which they thoroughly enjoyed & made lots of friends.
We camped during the heavy rains in July & the toilets held up very well, were never soaking wet, the pitches although at times very wet , held up OK.
Site went quite at around 10.30pm although never too noisy.
Morrison's supermarket within 10 minutes drive away
Spent two weeks on the I.O.W lots to do, lovely island.
All in all this is a well run quality site, we like to go somewhere different each time we camp, but this is one site we would like to visit again.

We have just returned from a 7 night stay at this site, on our first visit to the Isle of Wight. We found the site to be well laid out, with well kept grass & hedges to separate the different sections. The toilet/Dishwashing & laundry facilities whilst a little old were well kept and maintained and always clean. The only criticism here, is that whilst accepting the site was full, the showers could have been warmer, whilst there was never a shortage of hot water for the dishes! The site is ideally located for visiting all of the island, the only restriction being that the shop on site has very little, and you really do need to use your car to shop. Morrisons is only a few minutes away, on the road to Sandown, and there is a very large Tesco, about 7 or 8 miles away in Ryde. There are 2 pubs within easy walking and cycling distance. The Pointer in the village, and the Fighting Cocks opposite Amazon. Both pubs serve food and a choice of real ales. Amazon is well worth a visit, and we found good value for money. We will defiantly return to this site, and the island again.

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a week's holiday in Isle of Wight, and I definitely recommend this campsite. The site was very clean and well looked after. The areas were separated into approx 6 large pitches by hedges. The grass and hedges were kept neat, and there were always attendants around keeping the places tidy and available for help if needed. There is a children's playground, and a separate area for dogs to walk, although we didn't use these facilities. The shop was in the reception area and only stocked basics during the morning. The toilet facilities in the ladies were excellent with plenty of toilets and although there were only 4 showers, I only had to wait once whilst I was there. My boyfriend said the men's facilities were fine and clean, but could do with a little modernising. I figure the ladies has been done, with the men's to be done later at some point. Southland was a great base to explore the island from, as it is pretty central. There is a Morrison's about 1/2 a mile from the site which is useful, and the seaside villages of Sandown and Shanklin are only about 3 miles away. There is a variety of places to eat in both these places. We would recommended La Vada Loca in Shanklin, a lovely tapas restaurant in the old village part. We would definitely consider staying at Southland again. The ferry and ticket combination was certainly good value.

We stayed at Southland's from 26th may un'till 2nd June 2007. The first words the wife said as we turned into the drive, "This looks nice" and I can tell you we were not disappointed. The staff were welcoming and friendly on our arrival and after booking in we were shown to our pitch. The grounds are clean and well planted with flat and spacious pitches all with electric hook ups and some have a water supply as well. There are a few camp site rules to follow but these i think are sensible and help everyone to have a peaceful break which we all want when on holiday. Showers and toilet blocks are clean and free from children running about outside(campsite rule). There is good disabled facilities and family bath/shower rooms which are great if you've got small kids. The reception doubles as a small shop with a limited range of goods, which is a shame but there's a supermarket about a 5min drive away, so I can see why this might be so. Our kids aged 11 and 9 had a great time playing football at the play area(no football allowed around tents/vans site rule) which was great and I don't think the kids mind that rule either as goalposts make better goals:-() GOALLLLLLLLLL. Attractions/beaches are not far from this site anywhere on island and if you have SAT NAV you can save time and miles as you cut across the island and you may see quaint thatched cottages that are off the beaten track as we did. This site is well worth the awards given over the years and we as a family shall be returning in the future. If you go to thier web site click on the video link and that is how you'll find the site. Hope you find this review helpful and enjoy your stay at Southland's Campsite.

Beautiful site. Well run. The site was separated into small areas segregated into around 6 pitches each. It appeared that families were all kept together which was a good idea, if some children were noisy, other parents would be more sympathetic than someone without children, it also helped children to make friends. Dog owners also seemed to be kept together (not necessarily such a good idea, though I didn't hear any dog fights.) The "shop" really wasn't a shop and was supposedly only open for two hours a day. In reality it was in the reception which seemed to open and close randomly through the day. A bar nearby would have been nice, but the nearest was half a mile away and not ideal for walking a three year old to given the road had no pavement. The toilets tended to be dark during the day due to there being few windows and even they were small. When the lights came on in the evening it was fine. If you drive an LPG vehicle, fill up before leaving the mainland as I did not find a LPG station on the island (Google found someone doing conversions, but no one selling it!) I week was not nearly long enough. Blackgang Chine and Adams Hill entry are valid for a return within 7 days. Bear this in mind if you are thinking of visiting them as both are worth the second trip if you have time. The attractions are expensive especially if taking a family and no doubt we would have had a miserable time if the weather had not been fantastic. Fortunately we had glorious sunshine and cannot wait to go back. Southland is pretty central on the island so you will use a car quite a bit if you want to go to the beaches. If you are happy with spending your time on one beach then you could probably find somewhere better suited. If you want to look around the island than Southlands is perfect.

This is one of the best campsites you'll find anywhere in the UK, believe me. Just spent a week here and it was way, way too short a visit. The owners and staff are very friendly and very helpful. (especially when you lose your car keys like I did last week). The site has won many awards and when you arrive you'll realise why, a perfect, quiet spot for motor-home, caravan or tent. And If you like sun, sea and sand try a visit to Shanklin or Sandown, just three and a half miles away from the campsite( bus stop is an easy walk 1/2 mile away from the site, ask at reception for a timetable, No 8 bus). Pub is by the bus stop if you need refreshment after your walk!. You'll also find a Morrison's supermarket about five minutes drive away on route to Sandown. The beaches are blue flag so are clean and the water is safe to swim in. Plenty of tea rooms, Pub's and takeaways on the sea front where you can find something to eat or drink, but check prices they do vary a lot. Can't say any more than you will not be sorry you chose Southland as a base for your holiday on the isle of Wight. Also Check out the Red funnel web site for some great deals on camping and ferry tickets combined.

A fantastic site well worthy of its 5* rating. This was our second visit to Southland and it won't be our last. Pitches are large, level, well drained and all have electric if you want it. The site is very well layed out with individual areas seperated by mature hedges. Play area great for the kids. Staff very friendly and helpful. Toilet/shower blocks very clean. All the facilities you need for a great camping holiday, I can't recommend it enough.

A beautiful site, lovely and clean, kids loved it and toilets were very clean. The best campsite I have visited and will be going back next year. The owners very helpful, close to most attractions. We had an electrical hook up but the shop could provide more items please i.e. Papers and magazines.

Beautifully laid out site, very quiet and with excellent facilities. Toilets always clean, owners very friendly and in good central position for exploring the island. Only drawback was lack of hot water while we were there at peak times, although this was over bank holiday weekend!
