It is a beautiful campsite with excellent, clean, well maintained facilities. As we only stayed for one night we didn't do much exploring, however just from the drive to the site I would guess there's not much to do locally, so take your own entertainment.
That is, unless you like fishing! This site has several lakes, and when we stayed there were loads of people fishing. When we arrived, we explained it was our first visit; the warden gave us detailed, clear instructions of how to get to the site where we needed to be. Warden was friendly and very helpful.
There's a pub/ restaurant on site, although we didn't use this as took our own food and drink. There is a function room on site so I'm guessing there might be a bit of noise if there was a function on.
All in all we really enjoyed the night we spent there and would definitely visit again!

I visited the site with my wife and 9 year old son because it is within 40 minutes of where we live and we did not have much time to travel any greater distance on a Friday evening. I am glad that we did.
The site is delightfully situated around a number of fishing lakes and on the edge of some woods. I awoke early on the second morning of our visit to see the mist rising from the lakes and that was almost worth the entry fee on its own.
The only downside is that there is a pretty busy road running along the perimeter at the front although, funnily enough, there was not much traffic noise where we were. Even the road had an upside in the from of a garage / grocers / fishing tackle shop which provided for all of your forgotten bits and pieces. On this occasion it was sugar, oh the bitter, bitter coffee!
Although it was busy over the weekend we were on the non-electric pitches which were on a large level field. We were in no way crammed in and had a nice bit of room to breath. This was just as well as a fairly large group turned up on the Saturday evening and they were pretty raucous until a thunderstorm quieted them; nature can do noisy too! I don't mark the site down for this as groups like this can turn up anywhere.
There was also another plus for the site hidden here. The rain was pretty torrential through the night but the drainage handled it brilliantly, no puddling to be seen.
So what of the fishing? I am not a fisherman, I was rubbish as a teenager and I am no better now. My son had never been fishing before so we had a go together, I secretly hoped that he would not enjoy it but. He caught four perch. Given the noise that he made you would be forgiven for thinking it was Moby Dick and his three little brothers! I think that we will have to have another go, drat.
Woody’s bar and restaurant are on the site and both looked good, especially the restaurant, although we did not actually use either. Another plus point; I wondered if they might have generated a lot of noise, if they did it did not reach our pitch.
The other facilities were a bit patchy; the washing up facilities were fine but the showers were a bit old fashioned and could definitely have been cleaner. I didn't notice any mops to encourage campers to clean up behind them.
There is an old and a new block, on the first morning I tried the old and on the second I tried the new but I am afraid that if anything the showers in the new block were on the whole poorer than the old. They had an annoying tendency to drop the pressure just as I was covered in soap.
I had one other issue and that was with the booking. I emailed the site and when I did not get a reply left a telephone message, still without success. I had to phone again and got booked on the third attempt. Those who are less persistent would have gone elsewhere.
So was it worth it and would I go back? I definitely will and would recommend it to you. When we got there the staff could not have been friendlier. The warden was very approachable and kept a weather eye on things. The site has a terrific number of positives going for it.
Go on, give it a try.

As we've stayed at this site before my son asked if we could visit again for a weekend for his 15th birthday. He took a friend and spent all weekend fishing!
Its a picturesque site with lovely walks round the lakes. The shower & toilet block were clean with plenty of hot water.
On our visit the weather was cold and blowing a gale, we called in at Woody's bar and ordered a hot chocolate which hit the spot. We also watched one of the England matches in the bar and had a very reasonably priced meal.
All in all, a friendly and well maintained site. We'll be back next year.

The staff are friendly and the site is flat but pitches are uneven in places.
Fantastic for peace and quiet
Ground sandy so may be good site in bad weather
Great site for fishing but not if you have a dog that loves water, but signs every few yards reminding you to keep them on a lead.
The site showers / loos not cleaned for the 3 days so they were filthy by the end of our stay.

We have just spent 4 nights here, (Mon - Fri). The staff at reception were very friendly. We were in the non EHU area which was fairly flat. When we arrived we had the choice of the field to ourselves as there were only a few other campers, but by Thursday night the field was fairly full. We camped in the corner with the woods to one side and the trees and bushes of the camp perimeter to the back, this protected us from some quite strong gusts. There are two toilet/shower blocks and two dish wash areas, with hot water. There is a garage opposite the site with a shop that sells most things. The site gets busy on the weekends. We will use this site again.

2nd visit to this large commercial site ! Most with ehu and level although fairly windy and open. Superb fishing (bailiff comes round on a quad bike with his dog to collect peg fee). This site gets really busy at weekends, especially the rally field. All units catered for ! We were put near the exit road & there was a constant flow of vehicles all day & early in the morning, not the best place to be !
Didn't venture into woody's this time, but looks like they are spending a bit on refurbishment. Pubs for food try the Plough Inn Main Street Wilsford NG32 3NS. And The Stag Inn Barkston NG32 2NB both very friendly with great food & beer.
Site showers & loos were acceptable & cleaned daily. If you want a bit of peace & quiet I would go on a Monday & depart on the Friday. Downside would be the masses of geese & the mess they leave ! Don't forget your 'GPS' (goose pooh shoes) Ha Ha !.

Just returned from Woodland Waters, our first visit. Site staff very friendly and helpful, large site with good sized fishing lakes for young and old. We were there during the May Bank Holiday and although it was busy, you did not feel crowded, and they have now opened a new toilet / shower block during busy periods which is excellent. Woody's Bar is still being rebuilt after a recent fire but have been told will be up and running again by July, the bar and bbq area is still open Friday, Saturday and Sunday with takeaway food. Really enjoyed the site, my 2 children loved it, and the recent hot weather helped. Will be back very shortly!

Again a very nice and peaceful visit to Woodland waters, regular visitors to 'woodys' and as always enjoyable. We got snowed in and the lady in reception was really helpful and let us leave our unit the week after staying an extra night and go back and pick it up the following weekend then helped us to tow it off.
Later visited in March for a few days of fishing and a fantastic few days was had. Will be back very soon.

We stayed on this site after collecting our new caravan, the site is large but not over commercialised and is home to some very big lakes which seem to attract fishermen from all over. The pitch we was allocated was lovely, large and flat and we had spectacular views of the lake.
The site also had a bar serving food, a function room and the playground. Both the bar and the function room were nice and very popular. The function room had 2 weddings on over the weekend. This proved to be a slight issue in the evening as the music was still going loud and strong past 11pm, which although because of us being in a caravan towards the end of the site wasn't a big issue.
The amenities block on site was not big enough for the amount of units on site both the mens and ladies only had 3 showers and they seemed to get a lot of use all day. The men's showers I believe was also quite poor push button type, whereas the ladies were thermostatically controlled. I think the toilets could have done with cleaning a little more often than they were as particularly in the men's the toilets were dirty and ran out of toilet tissue, this may have been down to the fishermen using them as well as the people staying on the campsite. However, having mentioned the facilities block, the site are well under way with building another one directly behind the current one which hopefully should resolve many of the issues.
Overall the site is a fantastic setting and during the day lovely and peaceful, would probably wait until the new amenity block is up and running though before visiting again.

Just spent a long weekend here. If you are into fishing, this is perfect as there are lakes everywhere! Other than that, theres not a lot for you to do.
The site itself is very flat and well drained. We pitched in torrential rain but by the time the tent was up, the puddles had gone!
The toilets were very clean on the Thursday, but by Friday and the Weekend they were filthy!
There are only 3 toilets, 3 showers and 3 wash basins and we had to queue for showers and washing facilities all 3 days!
Having said that, there was never a shortage of hot water.
The pitches are very large and you can accomodate pretty much what you like on the pitch.
Woodys Bar seems very popular, but we never used it so cannot comment on price, service etc.
As has been said before, the noise can be quite loud.We were at the very far end of the site and could still hear the music from the bar. Also thee is a lot of road noise from the main road and also a 'rat run' that passes right by the site.
There is a childrens play area near to the bar, but 5 children on it and it is full!
The staff seem very friendly and were quite happy to answer any questions we had.
Be aware that the seasonal pitchers do tend to look down their nose at weekend campers and make you feel like they own the place!
Would I return?-No! This is because unless you are fishing, there is nothing for you to do, not even a walk into the nearest village, you are in the middle of nowhere, there are no paths and walking along the main road is suicide!
