We have just spent the weekend at Claylands camping, it is one of the best sites I have ever been on, we have been camping for the last three years, we camp from April to September, so we have been on a lot if sites.
The toilets and shower area are immaculate, as so the site.
The over head cables are a little noisy, if you think about them to much, but not enough to stop us going back to the site.
There is a nice club house/pub which serve meals, we didn't eat there, but the meals did look good and a lot of others were eating.
There are a few nice walks there, which was good for us, has we had our dogs with us.
Everyone on site were very friendly and most helpful, especially Andy.
Thanks to all at Claylands, we will see you again!

Just come back from Clayland's and I must say campers beware!. The campsite itself is lovely and the showers immaculate, if a little too far away from the tent field! The electric pylons are a nightmare! They buzz and crackle 24 hours a day and you think it as always raining.I am not a light sleeper, but I was kept up all night by this annoying noise-my husband got lots of shocks and felt vibrations all the time-surely this is not healthy! If you are staying in a tent there is no getting away from these pylons and we were directly underneath one, I would not revisit this site for this reason alone. The playground is mainly for older children and perhaps needs a little maintenance as is rather old and a bit dated. The site is close to gorgeous countryside and lovely walks, but the pylons far outweigh these good points.

This was our first time camping, so went along with my sister, who goes to this site regularly, to see how we liked living in a tent! Got quite a shock when we first arrived on campsite as my sister had failed to mention the pylons that went directly over the tent area. The noise coming off them was very off putting. Once in your tent, it sounded as though it was raining constantly, but this was the sound coming from the pylons. It made it very difficult to go to sleep as the noise is constant. Although this is a big negative in my opinion, anyone who is not a light sleeper, should not be put off, as the campsite facilities were immaculately clean, showers were free and lovely and warm, laundry and washing up facilities (2 sinks) also spotless. Another down side tho is that the facilities are all at the furthest point from the tent site, being close to the statics, which dont need them as they have internal loo etc. Surrounding area is lovely though. Ten minute walk across fields to a picturesque village, which had a pub, post office and village shop selling gorgeous local ice cream. The site had a nice little play area for the children and dogs were welcome. We found Andrew, one of the owners was lovely and helpful but Allan, his partner, did not quite have the personality to be involved in the leisure service where he would have to deal with the public! (an opinion also shared by quite a few of the regulars in the short time we were there!) All in all tho, I would probably not go again because of the pylons, which is a shame, as it would be a nice little campsite without them (and Allan who gave the impression he was more interested in making money than providing a service!)

This is an extremely well run and well laid out site. Toilet facilities are excellent. Nice woodland walks nearby. For a relaxing break would recommend this site. Quite a while since we have been but would imagine everything is just the same. Handy base to head off to the lakes etc.

I was not impressed! This campsite is really a static caravan park which tolerates tourers and tents. We were in the tiny tent field (next to the touring field which is in the bottom corner of the site, directly under power pylons). If the buzzing of the power pylons doesnt keep you awake, you can be sure the constant noise of the M6 and the proximiity to the main intercity train line (which runs all night) will certainly mean that you dont sleep!
I could not believe this site (which was immaculately kept I might add) doesnt even have a portaloo near the tourers/tent field, let alone a shower block. The toilet /showers are immaculate - but they are the other end of the site near reception - so I'm sure the reason they are immaculate is that they are too far away for people to use them most of the time!
The washing machine and tumble drier are very reasonably priced - it cost £2.20 to wash and dry a load, and the staff are extremely polite and well trained. They bent over backwards to accomodate my son when he wanted to watch Doctor Who in the family area of the bar.
This is a beautiful site and very well maintained - as a static caravan park it must surely be one of the best - but as a touring park for £18 per night for a tent with electric, its facilities are very badly located and the trains /motorway and power pylons is just too noisy at night for a relaxing break.
If you are lucky enough to book a pitch near reception (there are only about 6 away from the tourer field and near the showers and loos, then this would be a nice site.

We stayed on Claylands for the weekend and couldn't believe the amount of £18.50 per night for 2 x adults and 1 child. We were given a 'super pitch' which consisted tarmac area just enough room for the wheels of the caravan, but we had to walk on the soggy puddle filled grass to step into the caravan (which we also was expected to park the car on)! 10amp electric, which we blew when using the fire/low amp kettle and hot water, a tap on the pitch (which was the only item which made it 'super') and a light. The site owners need to have a look at Fallbarrow Park at Bowness or most of the Caravan Club Sites to see what a 'super pitch' really looks like. The toilet/shower block was indeed immaculate, but too far to be of any use most of the weekend. My conclusion is that the site is ok (just), but only worth £10 per night.

We visited the site with 2 teenagers for our last weekend away of last season. Youngest was delighted with the fishing, hubby was delighted with the bar, the food was excellent too! The showers were immaculate but a little too far from the big touring area and the pylons are a bit daunting apart from these the setting is beautiful. We will deffinately return.

Lovely site, very friendly owners and staff. Stayed bonfire weekend and the fire work display was great. Site and toilet/shower block was spotless (best shower block ive seen). Children thought park and play areas where great (age 7 & 8. Good little clubhouse. Hubby enjoyed the fishing (caught a few). Cant wait to try it again next summer.

Lovely site, close to the motorway J33. River for kids to paddle and fish (need shoes for this). Warm welcome and helpful staff. Bar and food weekends only and food only from 7pm so no good for us with young kids. ONLY problem was pylons, not directly overhead the serviced pitches, but over the other tents and caravan pitches. 6 pitches by the loo block away from the pylons for caravans so ask for these if you think of going.
If you love fishing, the pools look great so not sure you would mind the buzzing of the pylons!

Chose this site for a weekend break as it was not too far to travel. Was somewhat worried about the mention of pylons overhead but don't let this put you off, you will hardly notice them after a while and the plus points of the site far outweigh this slight negative point.
There is a separate small field for tents with electric hook ups available.
The toilet block on this site is one of the cleanest and best kept I have seen. Ok, its not as near to the tent field as it could be, but my daughter loved the walk there feeding bread to all the resident ducks and often returning to the tent with a long line of them waddling behind her onto the field.
There is a pub on site which serves food and children are allowed in the family area (which is a pleasant conservatory at the back overlooking the river). There is also a shop selling very basic essentials.
All in all this is a small, well kept site and we will definitely go back there.
