Just back from the May Bank holiday on this site. Really loved the location, 10 minutes walk to Marlborough and seconds to walk into Severnake Forest.
Reception sells maps of the forest for £1.50 along with milk and ice creams (what more could you want)
No showers on the site but you would know that when you booked, the toilets were basic but kept very clean ( we had a very wet 24 hours while we were there but toilets still clean and mud free).
There are no fixed pitches, we were just told to find an empty electric hook up with out a seasonal sticker on it and pitch where we liked. Fine when its not too crowded and gets away from those awful regimented rows, but I'm not sure I'd see it the same way arriving to a nearly full site and then trying to hunt around for one of the last spare electric points and hope I could get my unit close enough to it.
Peaceful site, you can pitch in open areas of tuck yourself into the trees a bit if you like.
Great location for visiting many of the White horses in the area, walking in the woods and generally chilling out. Would also recommend Lacock Abbey and Village to National Trust members.
Would recommend it as long you don't want a shower!

We've actually been here twice this year. We like it so much we're going to buy it next year! It is a shame that this site doesn't have showers, because it is otherwise a very fine site. It is quiet and peaceful, beautiful and well kept. If any child gets bored here it's definitely not the site that should be chided! We also do seem to meet a very nice bunch of people here. Lots to see and do in the area unless you are unlucky enough to hit bad weather. Not many indoor pursuits (even nearest museums are only big enough to offer only an hour or two of respite)unless you like getting wet in the pool instead. Otherwise the forest supplies endless entertainment for both adults and children in anything better than wet weather.

A small group of my friends and family have been coming here for the past 4 years, around June time and we always have a fabulous time.
We normally get my dad to book the pitch for his caravan and then we all turn up with our tents and camp round in a semi-circle.
The site has plenty of hook up points and the water points are dotted about quite regularly. The other thing we really appreciate is that the site provides recycling bins for paper, bottles, cans etc and there are ample rubbish bins provided we've never struggled to find an empty bin.
The site is peaceful, beautiful and there is always a great mix of people. Its a short walk into Marlborough, which has plenty of pubs for the men and shops for the ladies, although it is uphill on the way back.
Although the site does not have showers we have never found this to be too much of an issue and we've always found the toilets to be kept to a high standard.
The wardens are friendly, always helpful and we find them fair and just with regards to the noise that we occasionally make!
All in all the site is great and we will continue to come back year after year.

It's a pretty woodland site, and felt quite big. The pitches are unmarked - it was full that weekend and we found it quite tricky finding enough space for our two tents together (we arrived on the Saturday lunchtime), but it didn't really feel too crowded.
We didn't encounter long queues for the toilets even thought the site was full although we did have to wait for the washing up sinks a few times. The facilities were fairly basic, and only a few toilets and sinks, but it was perfectly clean, although I'm not sure I'd have been happy about the lack of showers if we had been staying for longer!
The staff on arrival were very welcoming and provided us with guidance about where to pitch. We didn't see any other members of staff for the rest of our stay.
As we were only there for a one night stay we didn't travel too far from the site, but we had a lovely walk through the woods, picking blackberries and letting our children run wild. There's info around about the local wildlife which is great for kids.
However there is no play area or any central space for them to play, and I think it would be quite easy for little ones to get lost on the site when it's busy so you do need to keep an eye on them. There is a road that runs around the edge of the site - it's the only road/track on the site
There was a very mixed crowd of people staying there - a mixture of families with children and groups of friends - and we did find it rather noisy with people sitting out drinking late into the night, which disturbed my friends' children - but it was bank holiday so I suppose this was to be expected to a degree, but I'd prefer to visit when it is less crowded next time as I bet it is amazing without quite so many people there.
We stopped in Marlborough on our way home and it looks like a lovely town and has a great Waitrose on the main street. I wouldn't fancy doing the walk from the campsite with a pushchair / small children as it is quite a trek!
We'll definitely visit this site again as it is only a short distance from our home, so good for weekend camps.

This was our first visit to a 'Forest Holidays' site after purchasing our Forest Experience Card earlier in the month. We chose this site as it was close to home and perfect for a weekend getaway (approx 45-50 min tow).
The site is wooded and has direct access to Savernake Forest. There are no showers although there is a small toilet block with keypad entry (4 toilets in the Ladies) which I found clean and tidy on the one occasion I used it.
You can pitch where and how you want providing you leave the required distance between other units. We had a premium pitch (with EHU). There was lots of space and no regimented rows or tight spaces to reverse our caravan onto!
The site is very convenient for Avebury and the local area / attractions although we only went into Marlborough for lunch on the Sunday.
Marlborough itself has a long high street with parking down the middle (pay & display) and quite a few pubs and cafes as well as specialist shops. We wanted to try 'Polly's Tea Rooms' as the cakes looked delicious but unfortunately had our dogs with us! Instead we went to Azuza which is a coffee shop / cafe in Hughenden Yard with outdoor seating. There's a Waitrose and a One Stop in the High Street for provisions although we came stocked up for our weekend.
Our dogs absolutely loved the forest (they can be let off their leads) and we plan to revisit this site out of season and make use of our FEC.

Lovely site in woodland, but with open spaces if you don't want to pitch actually under a tree.
No specific pitches - we could pitch where we wanted.
Easy 10 mins walk into Marlborough (bit of a pull on the way back though) which has numerous pubs.
Great place to stay while Marlborough Jazz festival was on.
We were there with friends who have a camper van and it was nice that we could pitch together which is sometimes not allowed on other sites.
Lack of showers is ok for a two night stay but any longer would be a problem.

I had a somewhat different experience at this site than some of the other reviewers.
Firstly, the positive. It is a pleasant site close to the Marlborough (though up a steep hill from town).
Onto the negatives. The lack of showers was not pointed out upon arrival. This only became clear when I went looking for them, only to realise there weren't any! We may have stayed anyway as we were off home the following day, but it would have been nice to have been informed upfront. Also found the £14 fee for a tent & two people steep given the lack of showers as this was as much as we paid at 5 other sites during our trip - all of which had showers.
Another negative regarding the facilities - out of the four men's toilets someone had pee'd all over the seats of two when we arrived. Not really the fault of the wardens - but what I did find inexcusable was that the cubicles had not been cleaned by 10ish the following morning & a third toilet seat had since been splattered.
One final gripe was that the site seemed to welcome same sex groups of kids & made no effort to enforce a curfew as one group of lads were still being noisy when I went to use the toilets at about 12.30. Happily I was camped on the other side of the site and couldn't hear them from my tent, but it would have kept me awake if I could have.
The warden's live by the entrance in a couple of luxury campervans which presumably have their own facilities - which is a shame as they would no doubt notice the dirty toilets & hear the late noise if they used the same facilities as the rest of the campers.

Lovely, lovely site. Not too large, well laid out, quiet and unassuming. Forest location but close to Marlborough. The wardens are really friendly and I'd definitely go back.
Negatives:
No showers (but you know that before you visit) - stock up on the baby wipes! The site does have an agreement with the nearby leisure centre and you can use their washing facilities
The ground was really hard when we stayed and it was difficult to put the pegs in - a mallet and lots of brute force definitely required. But hey, who's going to argue about it being too dry??
No shop (but you know that before you visit), not an issue for us, but may put some off
Positives:
Pretty site with areas for kids to play (although no park there's plenty of space and the odd surprise tree swing)
Find your own pitch
Reasonably peaceful
Friendly
Great forest walks nearby
Town within walking distance
Highly recommended !

This is an excellent site. We stayed two nights and the toilet block was maintained immaculately throughout despite things getting pretty busy on Saturday night. These, plus dishwashing facilities, were provided at the centre of the site not too far from anywhere around the field. Water points were not too much of a walk either.
There are no showers but a few sinks with hot water were provided and should do the trick for a short stay. Staff were helpful and friendly.
The site allows barbeques. Dogs were allowed and everyone kept them on leads as requested and I didn't see any 'leavings'.
It is right in the corner of Savernake Forest and we had a few longish walks there which were excellent. This, for us, would be the big selling point for the site. You go straight out of the rear of the site into the wood and could walk unrestricted for miles. Brilliant for kids to explore in reasonable safety. They would feel like they were away from everything in a jungle within minutes.
Tons of wildlife is on or close by the site. For birdwatchers Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers were easily seen by walking through and past the Forestry Commission barbecue sites nearby and Nuthatches were in the trees around our tent.

Stayed at this site over may bank holiday and soon realised that we had made a good choice. The setting is the first thing that strikes you as you pull off the main road into the beautiful savernake forest, then you are met by Graham and Rachael two of the nicest wardens we've had the pleasure to meet, friendly helpful and also very much got everything under control. So good start then. We were given guidance as to where to pitch but allowed to make our own choice; lots of nice random shaped areas dotted with trees of all sizes and types, not a straight line in the place. The lack of showers is a minor inconvenience as is the 6 number key pad on the washroom door and 2 washing up sinks is woefully inadequate when all 170 pitches are occupied, but all the good points more than out weigh all of this and more. Cant tell too much about the surrounding area as the site was so nice we stayed there apart from a couple of quick trips to waitrose for essentials. So well worth a visit , we,ll definitely be going back.
