We had a very pleasant week at Pors Peron. The site is very nicely laid out with hedged pitches along a network of lanes, providing privacy.

The pitches vary in size but none are tiny - the one we ended up with was huge.

There is a decent playground with a trampoline.

The toilet & shower facilities had a basic feel to them, but they were always clean and there is a baby bathing cubicle too.

A washing machine and tumble dryer are also available - these were heavily in use when we were there and you generally had to wait around - maybe it was the combination of sand & bad weather.

A good selection of bread is available from reception by pre-order, and the owners were always very friendly - on our last day the weather improved, and as we didn't need to leave until evening they very kindly let us stay on our pitch for as long as we wanted, without any fuss, thus enabling us to have a lovely day on the beach.

The cove at the bottom of the road is beautiful - unfortunately we were quite unlucky with the weather but we still enjoyed visits to the beach, which is spectacular come rain or shine. There are small caves in the rock and plenty of rockpools at low tide to provide hours of entertainment, and the coastal long-distance footpath runs along this stretch of coastline.

A short drive away is the pretty harbour town of Douarnenez which has a very good boat museum and plenty of shops as well as two hypermarches. There are various other sights within easy reach, such as the cap at the Pointe Du Raz, the pretty village of Locranon and Quimper with its impressive cathedral, medieval architecture and selection of shops.

A really nice site. Graham and Nikki make you feel at home right from the start and were friendly and helpful the whole time we were there (as well as very hard working). When we were there the site was composed mainly of families, and all the kids on the site seemed to have a great time playing with each other and making new friends (plus learning new languages as there were plenty of other nationalities there as well). There is still some work to do on the site to bring it up to date but it was still better than the sites I visited as a kid in the 70s and the free hot water was a welcome change from other sites.

There are plenty of local towns and villages to visit and some nice beaches in the general area but the water was so cold we needed wetsuits (in August) but that would not put us off going back.

The camp shop had all the really essential things such as gas, eggs, bread, wine, etc.

We really enjoyed our time there and would recommend it to anyone.

We are a family of 5 and stayed for 11 nights. I completely agree with the many positive comments concerning this site. It is a privately run site with a valued personal touch. To date, this is the best site I have stayed on and it is only 2 star.

The owners take care of their site and guests extremely well. Additional examples to those noted in other reviews are;

1. The trampoline side netting became damaged and was replaced within two days.

2. We genuinely forgot to order croissants and bread for the following morning but the owner came that evening to our caravan and reminded us.

The only note of caution is there is a steep gravel hill upon entering the site and my car struggled to pull the caravan. I should have asked the owner to pull the caravan onto the road with his tractor.

The site is extremely well planned for children with a well equiped play park. A swimming pool would be a fantastic addition.

The beach waves at Pors Peron are usually very strong. I recommend life vests and wet suits for most beaches in the area for children. There is a large beach at Audierne where the sea is more flat and another surfing / body boarding beach.

The nearby town of Pont du Croix has a large Supermarket and an excellent traditional pizza restaurant.

I would definitely visit this site and area again. Although this is a tourist area, I noticed that pricing is reasonable in all cases.

Wow, what a fantastic campsite this really is. So close and easily accessible to the most wonderful beach. Bit wavey for my taste, but hubby & kids adored it! Beautiful scenery everywhere you look. Had a great walk via the coastal path from point du miller back to the beach. Amazing views. Loved the campsite. This was our very first solo family camping holiday and am so glad this is the campsite we chose! Unfortunately, being novices, didn't realise was pitching on a slope and once tent was up, couldn't be bothered to correct but wasn't a big problem at all! Varied weather from gorgeous sunny days to bit drizzly, but the sun nearly always made an appearance at some point during the day! Toliet block isn't huge, but seems to work perfectly - biggest queue in the week we were there was just 2 people! Spotlessly clean as well, really impressed! Play park was great, pretty central and both of my children (10 & 6) spent most of their time there making friends and playing ping-pong! Daily bread available from the campshop was excellent. Good prices and much nicer bread than the supermarkets. Loved the fact that this was a quiet, friendly campsite in a quiet rural location - only sound heard from around 11pm is the ocean! Originally was looking at Eurocamp for the swimming pools/slides etc but am so happy this is the option we chose - am booking up for next year!

We arrived at this site for a 14 night stay in August. There were 6 in our group - myself, my husband, my mother-in-law and our 3 children (aged 8, 7 & 3).

Having spent a lot of time searching for the right kind of site for us, we were pretty sure that this was it - especially with previous reviews given.

On arrival we checked in at Reception (also the site shop) and were given our pitch number (27). We had a really warm welcome from a staff member and were told about the facility to order bread for the next morning and that if we wished to do so to call in before 8pm (when the shop closed) to order for the next day. She also said I could settle the rest of the fees when I called back (as only 25% deposit is paid in advance).

We then drove down to our pitch. I have to say that we were quite surprised at how narrow the road down to the pitches was - which also wasn't helped with cars parked either side. Having been asked for our caravan & awning size on booking we were hopeful for a reasonably sized pitch (as we have a twin-axle caravan - Sprite Quattro - with full size awning). We arrived at our pitch and cars were parked opposite which made it difficult for my husband to manoeuvre the caravan into our pitch.

Once sited we were quite satisfied with our position and it was nicely secluded on 3 sides with high hedges/shrubs.

The site is laid out on tiered levels and our pitch was on the tier below the playground and washrooms. Initially this seemed perfect as our children went off to play on the playground whilst we set up the awning etc. And we were able to hear them/check on them easily.

Once all was set up I called back to the Reception to order our bread for the next morning and settle the remainder of our bill. This was dealt with efficiently by the staff member who asked if we'd got settled nicely. I did tell her it was a bit tricky to site the caravan due to cars parked opposite.

We slept very well our first night due to all the travelling over the last 2 days. The next morning we were delighted with our bread order and placed again for the next day. We then went to explore the local area - firstly going to the supermarket to stock up on food and drink for the next few days.

We drove into Dourananez (approximately 10 minute drive) and shoped at L'Eclerc. We were able to buy everything we needed and also found that there was a Lidl just up the road also.

After unpacking our shopping we had a walk down to the local beach (5 minute walk down a steep hill). The beach was lovely in a nice cove, however it was extremely busy.

That evening our new neighbours arrived and set up their tent. The next morning their daughter introduced herself and immediately became friends with my 3 girls. We enjoyed our day out and that evening sat down to a BBQ dinner outside in the lovely weather. It was at this point that we started to notice quite how noisy the park was. However, being only 7.30pm we didn't give it much attention. BUT, after putting our children to bed at 9.30pm the noise was still very loud with children screaming and shouting. This carried on until 10.45pm - despite the fact that our new neighbour had asked them to be quieter due to the fact that her daughter was unable to sleep because of the noise. As we were now wanting to go to bed, my husband then went up to the park to ask the children to either be quieter or go back to their pitches. Following this request one of the children did say that they didn't have to be quiet until 11pm, but they did either go back to their pitches or keep quiet following this.

For the rest of the holiday the noise was better, with the park becoming almost quiet from 10pm, it was much better than it had been. On some nights it was a little later, but generally 10pm was park closing time.

We had a walk around the rest of the site to see if the noise was as bad elsewhere. We actually found that it wasn't and it was really just the pitches below the park (26-29). During our walk around it was surprising to see how big some of the pitches were given the size of our pitch. I'm not quite sure why they ask for sizes on booking when they really hadn't taken this into account when placing people on the site (ie Smaller tents/caravans on much larger pitches than ours).

With regard to the beach - it is a good fun beach if you enjoy large waves, boogie boards etc. However, the waves are always pretty big, so not ideal if this isn't what you enjoy. Whilst the beach is also in a cove, it is busy. And on many days cars were parked both sides of the road from the campsite entrance to the beach. This made it difficult when walking down with the children as cars were driving up/down and we had to stand in between the parked cars.

The site also states that it is ideal for cycle routes. We took our children's bikes and were unable to let them ride around. The site itself is very up and down and the ground is uneven. The roads around the campsite are also pretty busy so not ideal for young children.

We did go on a couple of the coastal walks - however these need warning also. These all involved steep pathways (often on a cliff edge) so be careful if you do choose to take one of these walks.

I have to say how lovely the washblock was. It was divided into 3 areas - ladies, gents and unisex. All 3 areas had toilets, basins and showers and were always really clean. There were no blocked toilets, sinks or drains during our stay - and considering they were full this can only be praised.

It is difficult to add to the preceding reviews without repeating the same information and its often done better than I could have done anyway.

We have just returned from a wonderfully restful and stress free holiday at this little gem of a campsite. Our first time here but it certainly won't be our last. I trawled through hours of campsite info and reviews in order to get our choice of site just right and this one just hit the spot in so many ways.

We have previously used sites in the Les Castels group which have all proved to be very good but a bit expensive for we wanted. We weren't going to be use half the facilities offered, the water flumes, zipwires or shows every night but we still had to pay for them in the pitch price so we went for a simpler option this time.

The site itself is laid out across a bit of a slope and is terraced gradually to make three levels with each pitch leveled individually. The toilet paper thing seemed a bit strange at first but it did cut out a lot of the mess seen at other sites, they were spotless. I found the free wi-fi anywhere on site to be a boon as my mobile phone reception tended be a bit iffy at times.

Graham and Nikki's new house now incorporates the reception office and a much larger shop than before, it seamed that with every week that went by the range of stock available increased. Along with the usual essentials of milk, butter, eggs and really superb bread there are wines, ciders, cooked meats, cheeses, maps and cards, Camping Gaz, even Toilet Blue. Oh, and a recent addition is a range of Ben & Gerrys ices! The prices ot items in the shop were very keen too, there wasn't a huge markup on the same item in the local Supermarket like some other sites I have been on. There are even a few bits and bobs of dear old Blighty nosh that has been brought over for sale in the shop by Brit regulars each time they return. A useful and free service is the book loan or exchange with titles in English, French and I think Dutch.

Congratulations to Graham and Nikki who are expecting twins in November, however the refurbishment of the extra toilet block may not be ready for next year as planned with three little ones to look after. Graham and his his hard working dad, Fred have been knocking their pans in to keep improving the site in so many ways. Along with the ever present job of cleaning, cutting grass and hedges they have been installing more and more electric hook-up points as demand steadily increases each year. A full 10 amps bye the way, not 4 or 6 as in some sites.

I do hope that after posting such good reviews that there will be some spaces available for us next year because we will certainly be returning. The whole extended family work very hard, are expert hosts and deserve all the success that they are bound to achieve.

This is a beautiful site, very rural, just up a (steep) hill from a fabulous cove with golden sand. It was fairly full when we were there - the last week in July - but was still a peaceful place.

The couple that own it are lovely and seem to be working the whole time! It was certainly very clean and well maintained. Our children (4 and 6 at the time) loved the playground and mixed well with the other children - a fair few from the UK but from other places too.

The local area was lovely, especially if you like walking. Definitely visit the Pointe du Raz - really something!

We'd go back here in a flash, if we weren't the types that like to go somewhere different each year.

What a great site! A lot has already been said so I'll just add some random stuff. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The owners were very friendly and helpful - particularly when our son got spined by a weaver fish!

The beach is superb - like a Cornish cove, but warm (well it was when we were there!)Waves varied from too big for little ones, to quite calm. We were lazy and took the car down the steep hill with our 3 children and associated gear. Never had a problem parking.
Icecreams on site are very reasonable - loads cheaper than down at the beach cafe. It's a family site, no entertainment, exactly what we were looking for. It's worth driving out to the various points on the headland for lovely walks and amazing views.

We liked Douarnenez very much. Oh, just one thing - you might need your own toilet rolls.

We can't rate this site too highly.

We spent two weeks at this campsite in August this year. We love Brittany and this site was perfect for us. The owner / managers Graham and Nicky were extremely helpful, informative and run the site very well.
The site is a 5 minute walk downhill to a terrific little beach and there are many other beaches within a decent driving distance. There are also many charming Breton villages and towns close by. Pont Croix, Douarnenez and Audierne are worth a visit and good for Supermarkets. In August there are a whole slew of festivals and we went to three of them - cider and moules frites galore.

The pitches are fairly compact but there is plenty of space and most are enclosed on 3 sides with hedges - you feel like your space is your own, without feeling isolated. The reception doubles as a small shop for basics, bread / croissants etc. are delivered daily (order the day before).
There is only one toilet block, but its large and clean, we rarely had to queue. No toilet paper is supplied, but we were perfectly happy to supply our own. Its a child friendly site without all the razzmatazz of the water slides / cabaret etc., and with the beach so close, who needs it?
It has a small playground with good old swings / slide / climbing frame, kids seemed to love it. The mobile homes option on site are a little small, but my brother and family enjoyed their stay in one - there is a deck outside most of them, so meals 'en plein air' helped with the space.

All in all, a terrific holiday, I'd recommend this site without hesitation.

Had a really lovely stay at Camping Pors Peron with my 5 year old son and my dad. Our pitch was a good size with a high hedge around it so gave a sense of privacy. It backed onto the children's play area so despite the noise of the kids playing it was perfect for us as we could keep an 'ear' on my son whilst he played. He made loads of friends and spent hours on the trampoline, playing in the sand and generally exploring the site. He is still talking about it!
The site is generally low key: no one played loud music, everyone was very respectful of each other, there is no club / pool so just wonderful for a relaxing DIY camping holiday.
The shower blocks were kept very clean and I have to say the owners seemed to be constantly working, either mowing the grass, cleaning the toilets, working in the shop or dealing with the guests. Very impressive and very nice people.
The beach, a short walk down a hill, is gorgeous. A lovely cove identical to those to be found in Cornwall but without the hordes. For the first part of the week the water was calm enough for swimming but towards the end of the week there were large waves. We had fun watching the surfers. This is a beautiful part of Brittany and comes much recommended. I am sure we'll go back.
