We spent the bank holiday weekend at Fishpool Farm. We received a very warm welcome and were directed to a specific pitch. This pitch proved more spacious than others as it was on the end of a row, next to the campsites gravel track road. Others seemed a little crowded together with those placed centrally surrounded on all sides.
The facilities at the site are brilliant - modern, pristine and well thought out. Plenty of dish washing space, lots of loos, 4 showers for each sex with some private bathrooms too. Laundry room, tidy bin area, flat pitches, EHU for all (though we don't use EHU).
There is a very small area through a gate to take your dog for a poop but for a walk, the best place is Delamere forest, 2 miles away. The playground is suitable fot young kids of up to about 7.
Beyond that, there are small football nets and at the back of the site a small woods with rope swings which seemed popular with the older children. One of the best sites (and I've been to loads!)for facilities I've ever been to.
There is, however, a huge disappointment that was talked about by all the campers morning and evening. Hot water supply is a real issue! The showers are either really hot (too hot for kids)or really cold. I went for my shower at 7 am and the hot water had already run out (even though there weren't many people up and no queue). The water was so cold, I couldn't even get in and had to get dressed again!
Dishes often had to be washed in cold water. The owner is clearly aware of the issue and a sign requests that you don't wash dishes until 10.30 am in order to preserve hot water for showers! Chance would be a fine thing - it'd already gone by 7 am! I would hope that the owners will soon do something more proactive about the problem and reassess the production of hot water as I fear, it will lose a great site an awful lot of business. People were NOT pleased!
Would I go back? Everything else about the site is top notch. If it was an overnighter I'd go back and do without the shower. Anything longer? I'm afraid not.

Visited over the bank holiday weekend. As mentioned in previous reviews the owners are friendly and approachable and the site is well maintained.
Grass is cut and removed, shower block cleaned daily.
There is a play area for the kids and another area over the fence at the back with a couple of rope swings which the older ones were enjoying.
The recycling area is behind a fenced off area with net roof to stop the birds. The owners obviously care for their site and put on an Easter egg hunt for the kids.
My moans would be that the water situation needs addressing. Even though they have a new shower block the hot water management is poor. If the site is full, and it was for 3 of the days we were there, after the first few showers the water is Cold. If you are lucky enough to get in there first the water is too hot, and as the showers are the press button type the temperature cannot be adjusted. I was wary about showering the kids it was so hot. There is a notice above the hand washing area to warn of the hot water(too hot to put your hands under)and a notice on the dish washing area to ask if possible to wash your dishes in the caravan as the hot water gets used up!
The drinking and gray water waste area at the top end of the site was also unusable whilst we were there as it was not draining, again a notice to empty your waste in the hedges.
The site could do with a walkway too from the back of the site to the showers as the world and his wife cut through between the pitches to get to the toilets. Understandable when you see the site layout as it is a long walk to go around, but no less annoying when people walking within inches of your van whilst you are trying to relax.
Moans over, it is a site close to the fishpool inn(closed until later this year)and about a 12 to 15 minute walk to the Abbey Arms which serves a good choice of meals and a reasonably priced bottle of wine and cask ales.
We went on the bus to Chester(bus stop round the corner from the Abbey Arms, running about once an hour at weekends)and visited Blakemere, which had a few craft shops etc. , free admission so worth a trip.
We would probably return but definitely not over a holiday weekend.

Obviously being February the site was very quiet, only 3 motorhomes and our caravan on site on the Friday but another 2 caravans arrived for Saturday night.
The owners were very helpful, friendly and chatty. There are a few essentials for sale in the reception ie coffee, milk and free range eggs.
They are doing some works putting in hard standing gravel pitches.
The toilet block was very clean, showers are the push button type but are powerful and nice and warm. There are two separate shower\ toilet areas in the same building, one bigger than the other but it does mean there are 4 showers for the gents and 4 for the ladies.
This isn't bad on a site with 50 pitches. There is a children's play area and a couple of rope swings in the dog walk area.
There was a bit of noise from the road but nothing to worry about, noiser on Sunday as we packed up with motorbikes on their way to Oulton Park
The Fishpool Inn next to the site(100yards) is shut at present for major refurbishment, it actually looks derelict as there is no roof on. It is suppose to be reopening in May as a Bistro.
We did walk to the Abbey Arms, which took about 10 minutes. We ate in there on Friday and Saturday night and found the food nice, top end pub grub is how I would describe it. The beer was good, tried the Speckled Hen and the guest real ale, Vale Ale.
We will definitely be going back as I said earlier it is less than an hour from home, is a good base for Chester, Northwich, Delamere Forest and the surrounding area and there are pubs within an easy walk. What more could you ask for a relaxing weekend away

Last minute booking and we weren’t disappointed when we first arrived on this lovely site. Incredibly clean throughout the site area and the shower and toilets were scrupulously sparkling with plenty of hot water.
Joan greeted us and we were informed there would be a bonfire & fireworks later that night and to top it off also a free buffet, which we thought was a really lovely gesture.
Met some really friendly like-minded seasoned campers and had a good social gathering that is sometimes lacking at other sites we have stayed on. This made a pleasant change.
Both Joan and Billy are superb hosts and have put a lot of time and effort into making this site one of the best we have been to for a while. We highly recommend it.
Don’t forget the short 5 minute walk to the Abbey Arms (left out of the site, straight over the crossroads)and it is on your right at the next crossroads). I had a couple pints of the Speckled Hen (cask) absolutely delicious.

Our first ever weekend in a caravan was spent here during a very mixed weather weekend in November.
The lady on site could not have been more helpful and friendly. We had sunshine, rain (heavy) and wind! BUT a great weekend
There were only about 4 vans there. There's a fabulous pub a few mins walk away, The Fishpools Inn. It had just had new owners and the food was fabulous.
There's a small children's play area that's a house thing, a slide and climbing area.
There's a foresty type area that's really for dog walkers (I think).
Toilets / showers were clean but cold.

I have just returned from a lovely week at this site. We were bowled over by the fantastic washrooms with facilities that were like a home from home. There were plenty of lovely hot showers which didn't switch off after a couple of second!
The site was immaculate and in a great position with views of woodland, a playground and an area for ballgames. The only drawback is the busy road next to the site which has very narrow pavements.
The adjacent Fishpool Inn is charming and boasts a good range of pub grub. Further down the road is the Abbey Arms with cheap meal deals and a lively atmosphere.
The site is a couple of miles from the railway station with trains to Chester and Manchester. Towns such as Chester, Frodsham and Knutsford are also close by and well worth a visit. Delamere Forest is a couple of miles up the road and is ideal for cycling and trekking.
All in all we had a very pleasant stay and wouldn't hesitate to return.

Just spent 3 nights camping on this site and the toilets / showers are 5*. The local pub, 5 mins walk away, The Fishpool Inn is great too :-) especially for Food and a nice drink. The campsite was not crowded in fact we were the only campers at one time during our stay. The campsite is located close to Delamere Forest and is in easy access of Chester by car.
The shop is very limited but the owners were very helpful. Thank you to Joan and Billy for a fabulous stay, we will definitely be going back again.

Being less than an hours drive away, we chose this site for our first camping trip, based on excellent reviews from both Camping & Caravanning & UK Campsite. We weren't disappointed! Its a small site with 50 flat grass pitches, all with electric hook up. The site is well maintained and the campsite owners are very friendly and accommodating. Having a 4year old, the site has a good children's play area, which is now located at the rear of the campsite (I believe it used to be near the campsite entrance, which some reviewers had concerns about).
There is a one-way system (albeit anti-clockwise, which confuses some people driving in for the first time!). The toilets/showers & washing facilities are excellent and clean. Pot washing sinks even have plugs! There is a small shop at the site office selling sweets, crisps, milk & eggs, etc. But its limited. We were allowed to freeze our freezer packs at no extra charge. BBQs are allowed, but must be on legs/blocks (campsite will supply blocks if needed), and dogs are allowed on leads.
There is a fish & chips van on a Friday evening, which proved to be popular and delicious. The Fishpool Inn is next door, which I believe serves excellent food, but a little pricey. Just further down the road is New Abbey Inn, which serves good food at reasonable prices. Pick up a card from the site office and get 10% off your meal. Delamere Forest and Oulton Park is within a couple of miles, and its ideally located within a 10 mile drive of Chester/Cheshire Oaks, etc. Nearest supermarket is Asda in Winsford, which is about a 5-10min drive.
Overall, we had a lovely 4 nights (we stayed an extra night) and will definitely return. My parents have a caravan and they came to visit for a few hours and commented how good the site is as well. A hidden gem of a site! Fully recommend to all ages.

Fishpool is our new favourite local site, being just an hour away from home. On arrival it was lashing down and after pitching in torrential rain on Friday evening the Friday fish and chip van was a welcome sight! By morning I was pleased to see the pitches had drained very well and the site stayed intact despite pretty terrible weather all weekend.
Joan and Billy were fabulous hosts and nothing was too much trouble. The shower and toilet blocks are immaculate and 5* quality and the site's pitches are spacious and all electric hook up. The children's play area is small but well kitted out and the rope swing up at the top of the dog walk gives the older children a feeling of independence whilst still in the safe confines and sight of the site.
Off site, we spent the weekend in the local area, visiting Chester Zoo, Cheshire Ponies (a massive hit with our 4 yr old daughter) and a day out in Delamere Forest.
All in all a fab little find and a site we will definitely be revisiting in 2012.

Upside,
Good location for Delamere Forest and we used the site as a base when we visited National Trust properties in the area. As other reviewers comment the loo’s are spotless and the site is mostly level and well drained.
Downside,
Road outside of site is very noisy and the locals try to go along it as fast as they can!
Local pub……………. What a disappointment, very expensive and poor choice. My wife, who doesn’t eat red meat, asked if it was possible to have an omelette as there were no other choices on the menu.
