July 2005 The man and woman at reception were friendly on arrival, the first impression of the site was that it did not seem as upto date or modern looking as others in Charmouth.
We camped in an adjoining field to the main one as this seemed quite packed, our field only had a few other tents and a caravan, our neighbours were friendly offering us tea as we pitched camp. However we were later to find out why our field was not so full, the toilet block as featured on the web site as modern facilities was not in use even though the site was charging high season rates. This required a trek to the next toilet block which did no go down well with the ladies!
The other down fall was the back ground traffic noise from the adjoining main road, which spoilt the country side ambience.
The site was dog friendly, though Charmouth isnt, unless you get off the beach by Ten AM.
The site is well situated in the village, the George pub served a good local brew and grub was cheap and plentiful, though the village chippie is expensive with a long waiting time.
Overall the site was friendly but dated, toilets and showers in use were ok and quite clean, did not use shop, pool or bar (the country and western music scared us townies away!!).

May 2005 Lovely campsite with a really nice family atmosphere, very dog friendly with dog owners being very responsible. Shower and toilet block is average but clean and never seems to be too busy. Good shop for those essentials and a welcome take away food shop in the evenings. Entertainment is good, cannot comment on pool as did not use. Very close to beach.
Only downside is the main road running through the campsite if you happen to be unlucky enough to get a pitch nearby, but the size of the campsite ( its huge! ) should not see that as a problem unless at very high peak times if booking late. Would go back, in fact in 3 weeks time !

August 2004 I booked this site on the strength of the reviews posted here prior to August 2004. The reviews from August 2004 echo my thoughts on this site:
It is too busy for people who like to feel that their kids can roam about safely. Cars were driving really fast and the whole site was really cramped. If you like to be in a peaceful environment then this is not it!
The public phone box was broken and smelly and obviously not being repaired - some stuff in the playground is dangerous. There was nothing wrong with the toilets when we were there.
The food outlet is dear - £4.50 for a cooked breakfast!!!
Charmouth is lovely but no shops open after 7pm. Beach is great but go to Lyme Regis if you want to see the big fossils on the beach. There are quite a few other campsites in Charmouth and I would go again to any of them rather than this one!! Deb

August 2004 We have just returned from this site and whilst we had a lovely weekend we felt we had to leave a comment about this site. It is in desperate need of updating and this particularly applies to the facilities for the campers using the field beyond the main camp. Only cold water available and no showers within a walk (or rather in our case a drive) back to the main area.

August 2004 We are a family with children aged 8 & 11 and went to the site during reasonable weather in fairly high season.
First the good news - the area's lovely, the showers are good and the loos are ok. The swimming pool's clean. The play area's very good for various ages. The site's big and wasn't very full when we were there, so there's plenty of space to camp.
HOWEVER the pool's only open 10.30-12.30 and 3.00-5.00 and children under 15 have to be accompanied by an adult at all times or they aren't allowed in the pool. Additionally, although the pool is 2m deep at one end, neither jumping nor diving is allowed. These rules are all strictly enforced. In fact the campsite has rules written up all over the place.
The bar/club does have entertainment but it's very limited, and the place is very smokey which is no good for children. The takeaway's reasonably good except that it doesn't always open when it says it will (which isn't the advertised time in any case.)
The shop is VERY limited 'though the ice block service is good.
The A352 runs alongside the campsite and is very noisy.

August 2004 Just returned after a week here with 3 kids ages 10 and 11, the wife and 2 dogs. What a brilliant site !!! I would recommend this to anyone there are clean hot showers at all times of the day, clean loo's and great washing facilities.
There is a clubhouse with entertainment everynight in peak season, reasonable beer prices too. Kids are welcomed too, snack bar open every evening for take away food and sat and sun mornings for breakfast.
Small shop on site that stocks the basics but the village is really close as is the beach. The pool on site is well kept and supervised we used it every day. All in all a great holiday and we will be returning, even tho it's a 3+ hours drive.

August 2004 This site is in a good position for Lyme and fossil hunting, and the Marine/Fossil Centre at Charmouth Beach is wonderful, but the facilities are really pretty dreadfull. It took complaints to get the ladies' cleaned up and smelling fit to enter, and the owner's desire to fit as many pitches in as possible is annoying to say the least. In his favour, he took no truck from the idiots who set fire to the bins one night, and ejected them before dawn! Pool opening hours are VERY restricted - a better bet is a wade down the small river with a net!!! I wouldn't go back to this site, but Lyme Regis and Beer (before the floods!) are very nice places which we will return to.

Aug 04 Stayed at the site during a really hot spell in August. Camp was quite full and we didn't want electric hook up so we went to the overflow field which had just been cut and was empty. Plenty of space for the kids to play but a long way from the only toilet and shower block, on a slope and quite rough grass. Also has a public footpath running through it. Beautiful view of the village and, unfortunately, the A35 Charmouth by-pass. We were far enough not to be too bothered by it but those in the previous field would have been very close to a busy road. Showers and toilets great with few queues despite the number of people on the camp. Very basic shop on site and the club is certainly "retro"! Nowhere to go on camp during the day if it rained. Nice family camp though with outdoor swimming pool and within walking distance of the beach. Great beach and river outlet with plenty to do - swimming in the river or sea or fossil hunting. Would definitely go back.

august 2003 Leaving it late to book a site on a bank holiday weekend we found ourselves here for our first camping trip. 4 adults, 4 children and 2 cars for £26 the night.
We all agreed that we've never felt so relaxed. The children had a wonderful time with so much freedom to run around chasing butterflies, insect catching and so on.
The toilet blocks were rather grim but a lot of that was other campers not caring about the state they left the loos in. Showers were rather cold but not enough to turn you blue and the water pressure was also a problem when the site was at full capacity.
Wonderful food on site offering a full english at £4 but take your own plate. Great chip shop down the road and Lyme Regis not to far. Charmouth beach is great, the children hunted for fossils and found them in abundance.
For such a large site there was no sign of any security, in fact in our top field we didn't see anyone who worked at manor farm for the duration of our stay, no one even checked our ticket in the car to see it was valid.

July 2003 What a great site. Not having been to many in this country didn't have much to compare it to. what a great start for us. There were 9 of us in our tent, inc. 5 children ages 2,4,6,6 and 15. There was something for all of them to do. the play area was great, the club house was defo retro but handy all the same. Local pubs were lovely, nearby beaches, the villages are all beautiful and we just had the best time. Would highly recommend this to anyone esp with kids. We luckily had great weather too but I'm sure we would have enjoyed it still. We will be going back there without a doubt. Oh yes, most important, the price was right. We had quotes from nearby sites who tried to charge as much as £50 per nite because we had so many people but Robin only charged us £30 with elec hook up and 2 cars. Good man.
