One of our favourite sites in Cornwall. 2nd visit - as good, if not better, than the first time. The weather certainly helped - 22 degrees in October - what a strange year?! Choice of pitches on arrival. Large grass pitches some with EHU, water and waste. The nicest campsite owner ever (thanks Marcus!). Very well stocked shop with everything you could possibly need - especially local ciders! Bargain end of season offers too - how could you resist?! Daily papers can be ordered for collection from 9am the next day. Toilet blocks kept really clean. Great information room full of good ideas. There is also and on-site laundry. A short walk takes you down to the Old Ferry Inn at Bodinnick. Fantastic pub (doggie friendly), really friendly staff, fab food (beware - the burgers are enormous!) and a good selection of local real ales and cider. The walk back up the steep hill to the campsite is a killer on a full belly! Take a torch as there's not much street lighting either. The car / passenger ferry at the bottom of the hill takes you over to Fowey for a £1 per person as foot passengers (doggies are free!). Plenty to see and do in Fowey (don't miss the pretty cove at Readymoney). The Hall Walk (entrance just up the road from the pub) takes you around the estuary to Polruan (approx 4 miles). The views along the way are fantastic. Another great pub in Polruan too, the Russell Inn (doggie friendly and great food / ales again!). From Polruan you can take the water taxi across to Fowey for £1.20 per person and 30p for your four legged friend! We would highly recommend this wonderful campsite and cannot wait to return again in 2009!

This is a really nice quiet site. We were here for 11 nights in September, and I would say it was probably around three quarters full. The bottom field is fairly well shaded from the winds, but the top field has the views. We were in the top field and loved the large, easy to manoeuvre on pitches. The shower and toilet facilities were modern, and always immaculately clean. We'd see staff cleaning them at least a couple of times a day. The staff were always really friendly and helpful, and the little shop carried plenty of stuff you might need at the last minute . Like wine!
The location is perfect if you like the quiet countryside of Cornwall, with loads of beautiful coastal walks that you can easily reach from the site. It's just a 2 minute ferry ride (you can either take your car, or be a walk-on passenger) to Fowey, which is just one of the most charming villages. It's also really close in proximity to Polperro, which is an absolutely stunning quaint village where you can buy home-made fudge in almost any flavour - the chocolate one is to die for.
About 5 minute walk downhill from the site is the Ferry Inn. We had several delicious meals there, and I can't recommend it highly enough. The walk back might take somewhat longer than it took to get there, as I warn you, the hill is pretty steep. Still! it could count as towards burning off some of those calories of dinner.
Overall, I would thoroughly recommend this site if you don't like noisy ones with bars and clubs, if you enjoy walking and exploring the coast and countryside, and if friendly staff and good clean amenities are important to you.

We chose this campsite as it has it's own slipway to the Fowey river and we were able to keep our boat on the pontoon which was so convenient. The site was ok but asks for you to be quiet from 10pm. This was a bit of a pain for us as we had 5 teens / early 20s with us and I was constantly telling them to whisper. Only 4 loos and 3 showers in the ladies and just 2 sinks to wash up in, so we spent quite a bit of time queueing. Once in the shower though, it was amazing, so powerful and the block was lovely and warm. There was only one washing machine and tumble dryer. The weather was diabolical when we were there and as we were constantly wet and muddy, I had to spend 2 or 3 sessions in the laundry which meant more queueing. Maybe it isn't as busy when the weather's dry! The pitches are quite big, we took our Outwell Hartford xxl which is huge and we still had space to park the car and a couple of kayaks.
The little quay by the river is a lovely place to spend time crabbing and fishing or just watching the coming and going of boats.
The Ferry Boat Inn is nice and cosy and the food is 'to die for'. A few in our party said it was the best meal they'd had!
We would definitely go back to this site but wish we could order the weather!
Owner's response:
We like to hear from our customers as it helps us make sure they and others enjoy their stay with us. You told us there weren’t enough washing up sinks and you had to queue at busy times – so we’ve doubled the number of sinks available for 2009. We hope this will mean you spend less time at the sink and more time enjoying your holida

We arrived by ferry from Fowey with our motorhome the ferry was cheap and only cost £2.50 foot passengers was £1. From the ferry to the campsite it was up a very steep hill but the campsite was easily located.
The site was very busy, and although we had been informed that we could choose our pitch when we arrived that was not the case. I'm afraid I cannot agree with other campers about the 'well maintained' site, as we felt that hedges needed cutting and weeding and we felt that the general appearance of the site was untidy.
There were an adequate number of toilets and showers in the shower block, but there were cobwebs and spiders and a wash with the water from the showers. There is a small area for dish washing (2 sinks) and we were queuing to use these facilities.
Behind the campsite there is a boat launching and storage area with a couple of picnic tables it is a nice area to sit and watch the boats.
We ate in the Ferry Inn, just down by the ferry it is lovely and serves a large variety of hot and cold food and you can sit on the terrace and watch the boats etc on the estuary.
Fowey it a pretty little place with a variety of shops selling all manner of things and plenty of pubs and eating places. If you walk through Fowey there are a couple of little sandy coves which are very picturesque. Lenny Henry and Dawn French are the latest celebrities to have purchased a house in Fowey.
Just a short drive away you can be in Polrune, Mevagissey, Looe and Newquay.
All in all the weather made our holiday which was sunny and hot.
Owner's response:
We are very sorry that this Reviewer (Dpsy90) did not enjoy their stay with us, unfortunately they did not discuss any of their disappointments with us during their stay. We always prefer to resolve any problems immediately where possible.
We pride ourselves on the quality and cleanliness of our facilities which is commented on by many other Reviewers and apologise unreservedly if we did not meet our own standards on the occasion of this Reviewer’s visit and assure them that this must have been an isolated occurrence.
We are surprised to learn that the Reviewer was not offered a choice of pitches as all our visitors are allowed to choose from the available pitches at the time of arrival, although when the Park is very busy the choice may be limited.
We try to offer our guests a high quality holiday in our beautiful area and are very sorry that the Reviewer found cause for concern. We would like to assure other readers that we continually strive to provide an excellent standard of friendly customer service and maintain the Park and facilities to the highest standards. We continually receive excellent reviews in person, in our visitors book, and on the internet praising our friendliness and the cleanliness of our facilities and aim to continue to achieve this.
Please do contact us directly if you have any questions or require further information.

Visited early May bank holiday. Lovely site in a great location - very quiet with great views. Large pitches, great sanitary facilities, good shop and friendly owners. Walked to Ferry Inn and ate there 2 nights - good selection of food at good prices although it is a steep walk back up to the campsite! Took the ferry across to Fowey and spent the morning there - usual seaside shops and plenty of pubs and cafes to eat in. No bar or restaurant on site. Enjoyed our stay.

We made our second visit to Penmarlam over the Easter weekend. The campsite is well laid out and everything is spotlessly clean and tidy. The pitches are a very generous size and all have electic hook-up. The toilet/shower block is immaculately clean and warm. The shop sells a good range of reasonably priced groceries. The information room has an extensive range of tourist leaflets and a small library/book swop area. The staff are extremely helpful - after heavy overnight rain we were unable to get our vehicle off our pitch and the owner came immediately to tow us off.
We ate at the Old Ferry Inn in Boddinick (about 10 minutes walk from the campsite) and also The Galleon Inn in Fowey. Both served very good food at reasonable prices.
This is an excellent campsite in a lovely settting and I would highly recommend it.

What a great little park! A hidden gem. We've just had a long weekend here and we loved it. We were greeted by the friendliest owner we'd ever met and his 2 dogs! Due to it being 'out of season' it was very quiet and we were told to pitch where we liked. There are 2 fields, one quite secluded and flat, the other with sloping pitches (tested out our new levelling blocks for the first time!) with great views of open farmland and Fowey. The toilet block was spotless with privacy cublicles for the ladies, soap in all the dishes and flowers on every flat surface (plastic, but who cares, a nice touch!). The covered washing up area was very useful, allbeit a little nippy in October! The shop opened twice a day (9am-11am & 5pm-7pm) and was full of goodies - nothing too overpriced - oh, and it's licenced! Papers were available everyday and could be ordered if necessary. Site staff were always happy and helpful. You could walk down the private road (owned by the site) to the boat park and pontoon, where there's a tiny beach and picnic tables. Just outside the park entrance is the road to Bodinnick and the Old Ferry Inn (great real ales & cider!). It's downhill (steep) so it's a trek on the way back up (especailly when you're full of cider!). From Bodinnick you can either take the National Trusts' Hall Walk (4 miles to Polruan), which we did, or take the car ferry over to Fowey. From Polruan you can catch the ferry to Fowey (little boat that takes only 12 passengers) and then the car ferry back to Bodinnick and the campsite! All in all a brilliant day out, especially in the October sunshine! We will, no doubt, return to this fab little site. Thanks to all who made our stay brilliant!

Stayed here for a weekend on a pre-booked pitch. Would have preferred 'pitch where you like' but not available. We didn't have any views where we were but the other field had countryside views, and was more sloping. Found the site to be clean (toilets, showers etc) and friendly and with a good stocked shop. Pub down the road is nice for a drink with views of Fowey across the river, and also serves decent food. We did the Hall Walk one day which is fantastic - stunning views, 2 ferry trips and ice-creams in Fowey on the way back. This is a nice little site in a stunning part of the county - would return.

Nice site, spread out across two fields, one secluded and level and the other more open with amazing views but a little more sloped. Good toilet and shower facilities and a good little shop selling the essential. Near to Fowey, being a short drive and ferry trip away, or a steady walk, but very steep road on the return trip.
