We visited this site for five nights just after Easter, straight after a five night stay on a Caravan Club site. What a difference, but only in the nicest way.
Where the Caravan Club site had a very "jobsworth" and almost officious feel to it, the owner and staff at Penmarlam were nice, laid back and just couldn't seem to do enough for you. The facilities are very good and clean and none of this "closed for cleaning" for an hour nonsense.
A little bit of a trek to the pub and a very uphill walk back, but well worth it. The ferry (next to the pub) takes you to Fowey, which is lovely and has - wait for it - even more pubs. Perfect! Beware though, the ferry only operates during the day. I think there are water taxis available if you wanted to go over later, but we didn't check that out.
Lovely location, really nice site. We would definitely go back.

Stayed for the late May bank holiday weekend on this site at Bodinnick by Fowey. Bodinnick is on the opposite side of the river to Fowey, reached by a car ferry. We both really liked this site. The staff were very helpful and friendly when we arrived. We could choose our own pitch anywhere on the site. Good sized, grassed level pitches(took our Hartford XXL with no trouble) some fully serviced. Plenty of space for children to play but no play area. A very good little shop selling a range of goods at a very reasonable price. Brought OH a new rubber mallet for 1.99. The showers were always very clean and plenty of hot water. There is an information room of things to do in the area and I also saw a small libary of books etc.The area around the site is very quiet, but within walking distance of a decent pub and the Bodinnick ferry to Fowey. Lots of places to eat and drink in Fowey. There are some great walks in the area. The Hall walk and the walk to Polruan are to be recommended and for the more energetic there is the coatal path. The Eden Project is a short drive away as are a host of other attractions. We will returning to this site very soon.

We have just arrived home after one night at this site. The site is lovely and clean, easy to find and the facilities were excellent. Stupidly we left our lights on whilst eating and drinking at the local pub (brilliant food by the way) and the owners were great in helping us out and getting us moving again this morning. Toilets were exceptionally clean and nice and warm last thing at night. The shop is well stocked and had all the essentials. The local pub was lovely and the cherry and apple pudding was to die for.worked off by hiking up the hill back to the site afterwards! All in all a lovely place, would not hesitate in recommending to others, just wish we could've stayed another night.

We stayed here for the first weekend in May with a group of 11 and 3 tents. We were impressed with the layout of the site which is very orderly and the views are fantastic. The shower/toilet block was superb, always clean but could do with some sort of door mat to wipe feet on especially when raining, other than that it was great. The shop was very well stocked and very reasonably priced, the staff were very helpful with various requests. You can walk to the local pub, downhill all the way and a very steep climb back! There isn't much else to do in the immediate vicinity but yards from the pub was the ferry crossing to Fowey which is a great little town for shopping & eating, boat trips etc We would definitely return if we were heading back that way.

We stayed here in August 2005 for 2 weeks. It is a friendly, family run park with lovely, well kept grass pitches. The toilet and shower facilities were absolutely excellent and the little shop had almost everything in it, including a very reasonably priced internet access facility! There was plenty of room for the kids to play and there was a lovely walk down to the marina. It is only a short walk down to the ferry, from where you can travel across the river to Fowey.

Nice site very well maintained. Immaculately clean toilets and showers also has disabled toilet and shower room. Laundry room with a dryer for a small fee saves taking dirty washing home. Sinks for washing up, free hot water.
Stunning views and some nice walks for the energetic and dog owners as dogs are welcome here as long as they are on leads whilst on site. Some lovely beaches not too far away. There is a slipway that you can use for a fee at the barrier which belongs to the harbour, but you can buy a pass in the shop. Also you can moor your boat at the pontoon for a charge.
The shop is open daily, sells milk and groceries, fresh veg and fruit daily. Also is a off licence as well as selling camping accessories that you might need like bottles of gas etc.
Will definitely be going back for summer holidays as we were made to feel most welcome by the owner and staff

Just spent a very enjoyable week staying at this site during the Fowey Regatta. The site is quite small and was full, but didn't feel too cramped and was very friendly.
We found all of the facilities to be good. The toilets and showers were clean and tidy, the showers powerful and just the right temperature (free and push button type). The shop was well stocked and handy for bits and pieces. There is also an information room with lots of leaflets and a laundry with washer, dryer, sink and ironing board. Plus a couple of washing up sinks. Views from the more open field across the hills were lovely.
The walk down to the nearest pub (Old Ferry Inn) or to catch the ferry over to Fowey is steep (downhill on the way, up hill on the way back), but well worth it.
Some lovely walks in the area and some little gems of beaches tucked away.
We really enjoyed this holiday, and I'm sure if we are ever in this area again we will return to Penmarlam.

Lovely campsite - gorgeous views from the open field. New ablution block very nice, clean and free hot showers. Marcus is a very genial host. We were there in the school holidays and although the site was full we never felt like it was crowded, and no queueing for showers. Well stocked shop where you can get just about anything you need (believe you can even buy fresh fruit and veg now). The Ferryman pub is a very nice place to go for sundowners - try to get one of the seats outside for beautiful views of Fowey River and town. Fowey is easy to get to using the car ferry across the river, be warned though sometimes the queue to get on it goes all the way up the hill. Much better just to walk in if you're only going shopping or for a meal. Beaches are nice and fairly easy to get to. Great for people with boats. We will be back!

Easter 2004 Nice easy going campsite. Very empty when we were there and new toilet block being built. Old toilet block quite satifactory. Hair dryer lasted ages with just 1 x 20p and dried my very thick hair in no time. Free freezer pack service and well stocked shop. The campsite cats made us feel welcome too. 10 minute steep down hill walk to pub with excellent food and great staff/customers (took plastic payment). Steep up hill walk back but ok when full of wine. Lots of walks using campsite as a base, no need to drive. The Hall Walk is beautiful.
