The great thing about this camp site, is its location - bang in the centre of things, in the village of Ballater, and within walking distance to everything.
Ballater has everything one needs on hand - a tourist attraction in its own right, with plenty of pubs, restaurants, and a good supply of touristy shops and attractions. Must make a mention of the local Italian restaurant - La Mangiatoia - good ambiance, and food excellent - and also the local butcher - burgers the best we have ever eaten - pricey but very well worth it, and the steak kebabs - yum!
The campsite itself - was very busy when we visited - the wardens were excellent - helpful but not intrusive - and the amenities were clean and well maintained; free showers - comfortable cubicles with a little seat which is an added bonus when trying to get dry, plenty of hooks, etc - plenty of plugs for hairdryer, and a decent amount of clean toilets and sinks.
Our pitch was of a good size - hard standing - tents seem to congregate in the middle area but there is also another area nearer the river for those in tents - an extra space especially allocated for ball games etc - superb.
As this is a council run site the fees are very reasonable and there are plenty of things to do in the area including golf - park is adjacent to a golf course, lots of walks, beautiful scenery - to summarize - a well kept camp site in a beautiful location - everything a camp site should be. Would strongly advise booking beforehand in the summer months, as we were lucky or should we say fortunate to get a pitch!

This is a council owned site so is fairly cheap to stay. The site is clean and tidy though the toilet and shower block has seen better days.
Our children love the little playpark in the centre of the touring site and there is an area set aside for kids to play with balls, etc.
Ballater is a lovely little village, with the usual facilities.
Walks around the village are lovely, especially alongside the river.
The pitches can be quite small and it gets really busy so remember to book.

Stayed here for 6 nights because it was good and we were very lucky to get fine weather. Balleter is well situated for all types of walking. Loch Muick is not far and the Queen provides good parking and a visitor centre there. The walk to Lochnagar from Loch Muick is worth doing even for those who are not used to mountains. For the more experienced there are are five Munroes achievable from the Loch. Other lower level moorland and forest walks are also possible within a few miles of Balleter. The site is good as are the facilities and is very cheap. The only drawback is that it is small so booking is recommended. Balleter is a lovely town, plenty of shops that sell useful things like food, hardware and camping equipment. There is a fruit and veg shop, a butchers and a supermarket. We found the locals very friendly. For eating I recommend the Alexandra Hotel, doesn't look fancy but the food was good. The walk alongside the River Dee was wonderful in the evening, beautiful flora and fauna and in June it didn't get dark until 12.00.

Great site. Short walk into Ballater which has supermarket, shops, chippy, chinese takeaway, good Italian restaurant, pubs, golf course and lovely walks which are well mapped out. The warden is friendly and helpful. The site can be busy so best to book. Only problem is their plumbing seems to be dodgy at times as on 2 separate occasions the main toilet block has been shut as they had problems but overall a super site which we visit whenever we can. Price is very reasonable as well, and what a bonus! we get age concession now if you can call getting old a bonus!

Excellent site even though we arrived and left in the torrential rain. Wardens very welcoming and helpful. Site flat but stoney 2' below surface so loads of bent pegs. Toilets and showers clean and loads of hot water. Basic kids play area with swings and chute. Another area for bigger kids to play with a ball, however the crowd of kids in the large tent to ours would rather kick it around our tents! This stopped after a frank exchange of words. Shops very close with good chip shop. Excellent walks close by for all ages (We had children ranging from 5 to 10 and all managed the easy walks) Overall a good managed site and faclities. I'm already organising my next visit

A nice, well located site, but let down by a number of things.
Toilet block was clean, but a bit old and slightly shabby. Reminded me of a school changing room! We chose not to use it.
Not all fresh water points were working.
Pitches a bit closer together than other sites,
But at least it was quiet.
However, the site does provide a good base for the various walks in the area. Ballater itself is a bit 'straight laced' and not very welcoming. You didn't feel that you could wander into shops and browse. I much prefer Braemar which is more casual and easy going - and you can get a proper drink there!

What a fantastic start to our camping season. We have just returned from a 3 night stay in Ballater for our first trip of the year. We had been itching to get away and decided to book this past weekend come what may, well it was great, weather was kind NO RAIN.
Ballater is such a lovely place and the site is good too, nice pitch clean toilets etc. Kids play area is good. During our long weekend stay we saw the local police patrol the site on 3 occasions which I thought was very good. It was very peaceful with no noise after 10:30 PM
Staff were helpful and friendly on arrival which was good as it was almost booked to capacity.
Loads of great walks for me and the dog right next to the Golf Course and on the banks of the river Dee you can’t ask for more.
I loved the golf course and I don’t even play but there is a nice walk around it.
Used the chippy on the Friday night after taking longer than expected to get set up and had some nice fish and chips, very very busy had to queue for a short while (7pm) but I did not mind as they had loads of Liverpool FC signed photos etc. On the walls.
Excellent local butcher, 2 supermarkets both walking distance from the site and well stocked. Good baker shop, again with loads of choice hot & cold, friendly pubs and all round quite relaxed sort of place.
Scenery is stunning and loads of wild life around the golf course, deer, rabbits, frogs to name a few, dog spent her time chasing deer, comical as they just darted away from her then stopped as she headed off in the wrong direction.
Everything you need is within walking distance of the site so no need to use the car much.
There is so much to see and do in Ballater and the surrounding area, Balmoral Castle, Braemar, Mar Lodge & Lin O Dee but the jewel in the crown is Loch Muick (pronounced Mick) this is a must see, fantastic scenery great visitor centre (free) but overall simply stunning. The drive from Ballater to Loch Muick is about 10 Miles, single track road but with lots of passing spaces. Only charge is for the car park £2 but well worth it. Even the drive there throws up some spectacular scenery to whet the appetite. You can walk round the loch without having to climb hills, all in its approx 8 miles, but there are shorter routes if desired. If you are not into walking then you can still go there, park the car then walk a few hundred yards to get to see some of the spectacular scenery all around the loch. When we visited it was after 6 pm and the deer were grazing only 20 metres away from us but we just could not believe how beautiful the area was so next time we will allow more time so that we can walk around the loch.
I have to admit that this was one of the best trips we have had and we can’t wait to go back to lovely Ballater.

This is a pleasant site that ticked all the boxes. Near to the local pub, lots of hot water, good, clean loos and showers, friendly welcome. We went at a quiet time and had plenty of room for the tent and we used the tables and benches under the trees. Not a "wilderness" site for those who want a secluded or beauty spot, but excellently run and does exactly what it says on the packet!

This site is best avoided if you want sleep or any service from the rude and couldn't care less wardens arrived on site to be told come back after 5 and get toilet keys we could use the ones at the office till then quite a walk for my elderly parents. The toilet doors closed with a loud bang making sleep difficult on the saturday night there was shouting, swearing, and football being played till 4am several campers with familys complained only to be told by the wardens what do you want us to do about it. I, d recommend giving this site a big body swerve

This was a busy time as the Braemar games were on on the Saturday. We had to book because of this but it was easy to do. They do not request a deposit up front and they are waiting for your arrival. We had a nice pitch even though the site was full. The showers and toilets are well kept. The only down point is the shop isn't open early to buy milk or anything for breakfast if you have an early start. Staff friendly and helpful. Nice site.
