Excellent site, Toilet / Shower block spotless, and lots of hot water, very friendly. Nice pitch with the river behind us. We hired mountain bikes in the village, and even though we got soaked, the shower on our return was excellent. You get a key on arrival for the block. Tent spaces are fairly tight, and there is a family area, which is separated, Benches can be used and are movable. Play area for young children or an area marked off for ball games, was well used. We will be back.

Great site, clean and tidy. It was quiet enough for us to choose our own pitch so we had our back to the river and looked up to the hills, this gave us the advantage of the sunsets as well.
Out three year old loved the fact that as we were opposite the park he was able to go and play whilst we watched him.
There were some local lads on Saturday night making a nuisance of themselves but a friendly word with the warden soon meant that the children could go back and play safely again.
Ballater and Braemar offered stunning walks and plenty of little shops.
We will certainly be back for a return visit!

Lovely spot. Basic but more than adequate. Council run, very well! Great spot for the kids - decent swing park on site and great location in the middle of the village. Superb walks from the site. Bit of a north south split between family and party makers but no unpleasantness. MV drainage point.

September 2004 PROS:
Excellent toilet, washing-up and shower facilities (you are supplied with a key for the facilities from the reception). Friendly and helpful advice from the reception (on where to pitch etc). Ballater itself has many shops, restaurents and pubs (many shops by royal appointment!) Great walks in the local area and saw some great wildlife (red squirrels and deer). Nice flat pitches. If you want to camp over summer in Scotland but don't want the midges, then the east side of Scotland is where you want to be. Balmoral Castle just a short drive down the road (if you like that sort of thing?)
CONS:
Reception only open at certain times. Apart from that, none.

Every summer from 1979 Superb site right in the middle of the town. Have spent many midsummer nights there as it's a local tradition to climb Lochnagar on that night. The river is next to the site and it is possible to go paddling but too shallow to swim.

JUNE 2002 This is a lovely campsite with wonderful views of the hills and it is situated next to the River Dee. It is a quiet and very clean campsite. The wardens are very nice and are always willing to help if they can. It is a very popular campsite for hill walkers, but also for couples and families visiting Deeside. It is so relaxing we keep going back.
