My partner and I began our holiday around the South/South West of England/Wales with Plusterwine campsite and we were not disappointed. When we were arrived, we were greeted by one of the owners who made us feel at home. We pitched our tent where we had fine views across the River Severn, really quite a sight and worth coming here for the view alone.
The campsite itself is level which is excellent and it is beside a field of 3 cows who pose no problem whatsoever. The campsite has Unisex toilet facilities which are of a basic standard but clean. As a previous reviewer has said, the fact that the facilities are unisex isn't really an issue. The shower area locks so that you have some privacy, although this means there is only really one shower that you can use at any one time. It doesn't prove to be problematic though as the site is small, you don't really need to queue.
That is basically all there is to be said about this site, as it is basic, but full of charm. The area in which it is situated has plenty of things to do but you have to be prepared to travel to get there. There is a pub down in Woolaston village called The Rising Sun. If you follow the signs to Woolaston Common you can walk there but it is a bit over a mile, pleasant on a summer's evening. The food is excellent as well, we had 2 courses and 2 drinks and spent just over £30.
There is also Puzzle wood which is reasonably nearby for a day out.
To conclude, this is the ideal campsite for getting away from it all, but if you want an all singing-all dancing campsite then this probably isn't the one for you! Ideal I would suggest for couples for a quiet weekend break, although families would probably enjoy the activities surrounding the area and enjoying the farm/rural lifestyle.

I chose this site for my South Wales stop as I headed up the UK because as a woman travelling alone with an obviously one person tent I wanted a site which was small, a little bit away from town / village and general foot traffic.
Reading the reviews of this site I had expected a warm welcome from the owners and I was not disappointed. It's lovely to feel that you are welcomed and albeit in a hands off non interfering fashion, looked after.
I had come with my own food & cooking realising the site wasn't going to be that near any pubs etc. , and carried out my own catering plan. There was, however a Gurka (I may have spelt this wrong) take away / restaurant within easy walking distance if I hadn't prepared.
The views from the site were spectacular, and being a working farm, I spent happy time in the well mowed and clean field reading with the background of cows chewing and the occasional tractor humming to lull me into a state of relaxation.
It's a small site, and has the basics of water, toilets and clean and good showers. Do go mentally prepared for unisex facilities though. It's not a problem at all, and can't really see it getting busy unless the number of tents staying goes up but with a max of 10 - 12 pitches this isn't that likely.
The showers locked, the toilet cubicles locked, and the urinals are deliberately out of service so this really was fine. The picnic benches were a nice touch too.

This is one of the very best sites, of any category, we have visited in over 50 years of camping and caravanning! Everything about the site is immaculate, the owners take obvious pride in its development (five new picnic benches, additional hedge planting planned)and the panoramic view of the Severn Estuary would, in itself, justify a visit.
There is a new Portable cabin type toilet block, with every facility kept scrupulously clean by the owner's wife. There is ample room in the well-kept camping area, plenty of electric hook-ups and water points, a well-built chemical disposal point and proper recycling facilities.
The village has several pubs (the 'Rising Sun' is probably the best for real ale drinkers and also serves good home-cooked food at reasonable prices).
An unexpected bonus is the Woolaston Inn, newly reopened by a family of ex-Gurkha soldiers and, in addition to providing immaculate service, serving some splendid Indian and specialist curries. There is a traditional village shop, open early to late, providing local produce and, only a mile or so away, a 24/7 service station and shop.
Lydney has a large Tesco and Chepstow has a very large Sainsbury's.

What a super little campsite! We have just spent a great weekend here and were made to feel incredibly welcome. The owners were very helpful and friendly. They were more than happy to chat with the 3 young children we had with us and offered to show them the new calves.
The site itself is small and flat but a little exposed. Wonderful views across to the Severn Bridge! The shower block and toilets are clean and well maintained.
As it is a small site there were only a few people staying and I never once had to queue for any of the facilities. Plenty of space in the middle of the field for the children to run around and play and there were also picnic benches placed around the field for you to use.
Perfect location for the Forest of Dean. Will definitely try and return another time, possibly when the weather is less windy.

One of the loveliest parts of the country & have visited many times. First time at this site. Wanted to stay near the Forest of Dean for bank holiday weekend. Friendly campsite owner was very helpful in accommodating us (two tents, two families). Very quiet location with beautiful views across the Severn (you wouldn't know there were 2 power stations across the River).
Very flat green field site: safe for children to play. Owners happy for children to explore farm and animals with supervision. Loved being surrounded by animals. Unfortunately it was an incredibly windy weekend and we were very high up and exposed unlike the pitches for the caravans which are protected by high hedges: the owner acknowledged it was the wrong way round. Exposure to the wind was really frustrating! However on second night, the farmer helpfully provided a wind break with lots of bales of straw. Toilets and showers are unisex and it would be better if they were separate and all doors should have locks on. Would definitely return if less windy. Incredibly relaxed, good value for money and well situated for local attractions.

A C&CC certificated site with hardstandings, good access, a quiet location away from traffic, a nice grassy field for tents and good uninterrupted views across the River Severn. There is also a toilet block with showers in a Portable cabin type building.
EHU's are adjacent to the pitches and there is one drinking water tap and a separate good chemical waste disposal area with washout facility.
This is however a working farm and behind the caravans it can get busy with farm machinery and tractors moving around and there is the usual farm disadvantages of manure smells and flies in the summer. These are really the only disadvantages.
The owners who live adjacent are friendly and don't impose with rules and regulations, so it's an easy going site. Chepstow is only about 15-20 minutes drive away and it's close to the Wye Valley and Offa's Dyke.
It's a site that I would return to and can be recommended.
