We visited this site for our first ever camping experience as a family and made a last minute booking for the August Bank Holiday weekend. We stayed in the overflow field. This was very spacious and peaceful and our pitch had lovely views over the fields beyond. However we were as far as it was possible to be from the toilet facilities which meant a bit of forward planning was needed at times!

We had a lovely time as we liked the wildness of the overflow field. It was good to be away from the more regimented feel of the serviced pitches and it was clear that family groups meet there which is something we would definitely consider suggesting for the future.

One thing was that the facilities did feel a little overcrowded at times as there seemed to be no real limit on numbers. We would go again at a quieter time.

Our daughter loved the playground and because the site felt so safe we were able to let her go there on her own if she wanted which was a nice change for a city kid! It was also useful to have shop on site as it's quite a long way from civilisation - however that is definitely part of the charm of the site. It would be very easy to stay there and not do much else!

A lovely secluded little site which the kids love as they can run around and explore safely, the adventure playground was a big hit. We went there a couple of times last year, the first time in May and it was wonderful, not too busy.

The second time we went was in the summer holidays and the park was pretty busy but plenty of room on the field to pitch still. The down side for us was that I don't think the facilities are up to the job in peak season. The toilet block was not too clean and was rather smelly. The showers are particularly poor, like swimming pool showers where you have to keep pushing a button to get water and you have no control over the temperature so it's cold one end and too hot at the other. A mop and bucket is left in the shower block for people to clean up after themselves, but human nature being what it is people don't, so again at busy times the facilities are particularly unpleasant.

That for me was the only down side, otherwise, it's a lovely little site.

We were put in the top field where there was no immediate toilet facilities, with wind, rain and small children this did not go down well at night time.

However, the toilets and showers were clean, the children enjoyed the play area, the man in the shop was very helpful and the site was very clean and tidy.

We spent the Easter week here and had a wonderful time. The first few days the site was completely full, but still felt fairly peaceful. Once it quieted down, it was even more wonderful. This was our first camping trip, but second time here (static before), and we chose it because we knew it was quiet, and well sheltered.

The small pool is lovely, and fairly warm, and the playground great for our children. They also have a mini ballpit for under fives in the games room (along with table tennis and pool) We had a couple of nice walks in the forest.

The local coast is lovely, Beer is a very nice pebble beach, and Seaton, Exmouth and Sidmouth ae great as well. Expect to drive a lot as the coast is 30-45 minutes driving time, as are most other places. Bickleigh near Tiverton, one junction up has a wonderful pub next to a large cascading river - well worth the journey.

Facilities are good, with regular hot water, and heated wash rooms. I found the men's shower in the pool the best, as I didn't have to crouch to wash my hair, and a press of the button lasted around 30 seconds.

The staff are friendly and were outgoing with the children. The only off-putting thing was the owner on arrival when I said we were new to camping and asked if I needed to know anything about the site, when he made many disconcerting noises about the possible size of our tent , seemingly implying we were in some way out of order to bring a big tent to an ehu pitch, despite my saying we had checked the size on booking. As it turned out our large Dome tent (cross shape) had just enough space either side, but plenty in front.

This soon passed by and we had a wonderful week, great long BBQ evenings, and will return for some weekends when we will spend more time on site.

We stayed here for a long weekend in our tent, after staying in May in one of their static caravans.  I enjoyed the trip even more in a tent putting to good use all the facilities of the site.  It is a wonderful place to stay.  Very friendly, very clean, very laid back.  Excellent facilities include, private baby bathroom, loads of free showers, games room, indoor campers kitchen with microwave, toaster, kettle and sink.  Library, free ice block facility.  Good open large spaces for children to play football, basket ball and tennis.  Good play equipment, indoor swimming pool with changing rooms.  Lovely forest walks.  The campsite had loads of Dutch staying so that is normally a great sign.  If you want club houses, pubs or easy reach to the beach then this is not the site for you.  If you want wholesome family quality time then I thoroughly recommend this site and will definitely be returning.

We arrived the last week in July and stayed for two weeks.
The site was well run by the owners with two sets of Managers rotating shifts.  All were very friendly and helpful and the owner had an air of authority about him, keeping everything in check.
The facilities were good - clean showers and toilets, the pool was small but for our kids of 7 & 9 it was perfect.  The grounds were well maintained and our dogs loved the long forest walks.  The play areas were excellent and kept the children amused for hours with their new found friends.
The location was good for day trips to the coast and other locations of interest but they were not on the doorstep so you must be prepared to drive some distance, even for general shopping despite the well stocked shop on site.
The pitch size was excellent and there was plenty of room to erect an awning and gazebo with space to spare.
The Launderette consists of two commercial washing machines and two large tumble driers with ironing facilities and bearing in mind the number of units on the site, we generally managed to get our washing done without too much delay.
We would certainly consider returning (as many of the families we met seem to do each year).

Stayed for 2 nights. Owner’s daughter very friendly and helpful when booking by phone. We camped in a tent, pitches adequately sized but not huge. Nice play area for children and small indoor pool. Showers and toilets were clean although shower temperature not controllable. Dishwashing sinks took an age to fill up with the type of tap you have to hold down which was a bit of a chore! Well stocked shop but with limited opening hours. On our second night (Saturday) a group of caravanners and their children opposite us were sat chatting quietly at about 10.30 and the owner took it upon himself to come and point out that there was a no noise rule after 10pm. This was slightly ridiculous as we were opposite them in a tent and they certainly did not disturb us.

We stayed for the weekend in a static caravan. The weather was absolutely appauling! Storms and floods. However, we had a great time with our 3 children aged 8, 5 & 3. The swimming pool is small but the children loved it. The weather did clear for about an hour each day allowing them the pleasure of using the climbing equipment that was good. Great monkey slide. The campsite is set in glorious forests and the walks would be enchanting. We did venture into one of the walks before it was too boggy to go any further and saw a red deer. For older children there is a games room with ping-pong, arcade machines and snooker tables (pay as you go). Tennis courts and plenty of space to ride bicycles. Flat tarmac. This is a great great place for a holiday. If you are into peace, quiet and family fun and not bingo etc. We are returning in August with our tent to test out the camping aspects.

Plenty of privacy and space. also picnic area. Onsite shop well stocked with all essentials incl.booze.We shall definitely be going again very soon and often.

 August 2004
We visited this site last year for our main holiday and it's the furthest inland we've been (normally the closer to the beach the better). It's not a huge site and due to the high hedges and surrounding woodland it feels quite private and sheltered. The pitches are large and it was so relaxing. It was great sitting watching the gliders suddenly appear above the trees from the neighbouring gliding club (Made little noise, obviously). The night sky was like nothing I've seen before - there's no light pollution.

The owners were friendly and helpful and the facilities were clean although we did have to queue for the showers a couple of times. We were so laid back it didn't matter. The site was full but didn't feel it.

There was enough to keep our two teenagers happy - swimming pool, sauna, pool, table tennis, cycling, walking. Try the small US Marine museum in the next village. Very pretty village pubs around serving good food.

It's true that you have to drive to any towns but they're all nice and the countryside is lovely. However the site is up a twisting road that my husband hated driving up, let alone towing (well worth it though).

A real hidden gem.
