We stayed here for just a night to break our return journey from Dorset, choosing the site because of its location, just off the A34. We were welcomed by the resident warden and honoured to be given the pitch next to his (because there were only two of us and he judged we'd be quiet!)
Pleasant site, large pitch, showers and toilets basic but clean. The Woodpecker pub is just a ten minute walk away and serves a decent range of pub food.
Certainly did the job for what we needed, at a reasonable price - £12 for the night.

This trip was the first I'd made with my children camping, and it was a great success.
The campsite was nice a low-key, with a small children's play area, and tennis court. The washing facilities were nice and clean, and the man on site was very helpful.
The whole site was very clean and tidy, with no mess from previous campers which my main complaint about other sites.
Shopping wise there was a large 24 hour Tesco Extra and Boots with midnight chemist under 10 minutes away by car. Plus a pizza hut and MacDonalds for when the camp food went wrong.
There is also a petrol station 5 minutes away with a small supermarket inside and cash machine.
The only problems I had on the site were the height of the sinks in the wash block, my 7 year old couldn't reach them to clean her teeth, and the swings in the park had no protective surface underneath, and there were some sharp looking stones in the mud. Nothing that couldn't be fixed by a step stool and a trip to toys r us for the owners though.
I really enjoyed my stay and would go back again.

We only booked this site as a stopover for attending Newbury Races and we were really pleased with it as we had no expectations. We arrived later than expected and were greeted by the site warden who told us where we could pitch and how to use the electric hookup as it is on a meter. It was £2 but lasted forever so certainly not something to put you off.
The facilities were clean albeit basic but we didn’t expect anything flash so we were plenty happy enough. There was a small playground in the back corner of the site but we didn’t have children with us and there weren’t any on site when we went so cannot really comment on how satisfactory they are.
We will definitely return to this site if we need stopover in the area and would recommend to others.

This was our first camping experience and we thought it was a very nice site.
Small site with friendly chap who was happy to offer us advice and assistance. There was a group of 8 youngsters also camping and the warden kept an extra but unseen eye on these. No problems at all.
Quite far for a stroll to the local shops - but nice pub 10 mins away.
Showers and facilities much better than I would have imagined and tennis court onsite.
Lovely lovely lovely relaxing time - we even stayed 2 extra nights.

This site is one of the best sites we have stayed on. Clean, friendly, and most of all very safe for the children. We had a great time and are already booked to go back this august (2009). The wildlife was wonderful, kestrels, buzzards, foxes, rabbits and, the children loved the new calves in the next field. Beautiful woodland walks in penwood. Tesco extra, mcdonalds, pizza hut all a short drive away. Budgens supermarket, a fish and chip shop and 2 pubs you can walk to. The local pub (the woodpecker) was not child friendly so we didn't get to go in that one. The campsite was full when we went but there were more than enough showers and toilets so you never had to wait for one. Excellent value for money.

This is a nice peaceful site and ideal for relaxing. The toilet block was kept clean though there are only a couple of showers. It is a bit of a walk from a pub but is situated in a nice area. The gentleman who greets visitors and lives on the site was very friendly and we told him we would be back again. We're going this weekend and will no doubt have a great time. Not the sort of place to go if you need to be spoon-fed your activities or like full on holiday parks, but is ideal as a base for visiting local areas, such as Oxford, Winchester & Salisbury.

Have visited this site on several occasions as it is the nearest to where I live. Have visited with both my boys and my little girl who all found the play facilities excellent and continue to pester me to take them back. Only drawback was playing tennis with the boys who managed to lose 14 tennis balls over a weekend! Owner is really friendly and although facilities are basic it provides a nice safe introduction to camping for younger children. Yes the A34 is near and you can hear the traffic but we still found it to be peaceful.

Good value site with slightly sloping field with electrics. non-electric tent field almost flat. Decent size pitches, no shop or club. toilets adequate but short on showers. would be hard on users in busy periods.
Didn't notice any traffic noise, not very good for dog walking unless you go off site for about half a mile. Having said all that, we really enjoyed our stay and decided that it is one site we would return to - but not on a busy time.

Oakley farm is a very pleasant site. The owner is very friendly and helpful, facilities are exceptionally clean (if a little basic), play are and tennis courts are great for kids & adults alike. The entire site seemed to be very well looked after. We will definitley return.

May 2005 Good value for money. Facilities basic but very very clean and modern. Site well laid out and pleasant looking, generous pitches, nice kiddies play area. Site was very quiet and peaceful during the day but the traffic noise was noticable especially at night. Would return (if we ever need to visit Newbury again)
