The site is just outside the village of Vic sur Aisne, and is directly on the river. There are also 3 fishing / paddling lakes on the site, so it might be tricky if you have toddlers.
There are 10 tour operators on the site, each with different reps and most of the site is given over to mobile homes. If you’re going in one of these in August you need to be in the western half of the site as the east is a relatively new development and the trees are still only a couple of feet tall.
We arrived while the reception was closed for lunch so took a walk and spotted some lovely looking camping pitches by one of the lakes. We asked for one of those but were told they were closed for the winter & we were given a muddy touring pitch to the side of the main site, though with it’s own play area. They let us pick the least muddy one, but they really weren’t suitable for tent campers at all.
On the first evening we ate in the restaurant, which wasn’t all that busy. We were asked if we had reserved, we hadn’t. When we asked if we could have a drink in the bar first they said they couldn’t guarantee a table. In October. Before the half-term rush. The meal was very average and the menu pretty limited. The next morning I tried the takeaway and various chalets by the lake and managed to score some croissants, but no coffee to go. In the evening, the bar was very small and contained a wide cross-section of small British children. It’s probably better in summer when you can take your drink outside.
We used the pool a couple of times, the corridor with the changing rooms was very muddy and almost all the lockers had broken locks and no keys. The pool was fine, and the slides and flume went down well with those of us who use them. The jacuzzi wasn’t all that warm though.
The facilities were clean (no paper in the loos though). I couldn’t get hot water in the showers by the touring pitches but had more luck with the modern showers in what might once have been stables in the main courtyard. And – the showers had a basin with a shelf for your glasses (a theme in several of my reviews!). Although it was October, just about everything apart from the shop was open, which was good.
There are a few shops in town (the bakers is excellent and look out for the chocolate broad beans!) and an Intermarche that’s open short hours. There’s also a cute little castle, but it’s closed out of season. The nearest big Leclerc supermarket is at Villers Cotterets. There’s a little brasserie about half a mile from the site, but you’d have to book well in advance. We also found a classy little two star auberge in the next village. The food at L’Auberge du Bord de l’Eau at Port-Fontenoy was scrummy and very French. Not a pretentious place though, as the owners’ little daughter was sitting there having her supper & playing.
The site is convenient for Paris, the theme parks, all the WWI stuff at Compiegne and the magnificent chateau at Pierrefonds. They run a coach to Paris, but we found it was cheaper to take the car into Paris & park in a multi-storey. There are also apparently trips to the theme parks.
The staff seemed tired at the end of a long season, and everything seemed a little too much bother. They all spoke English and seemed surprised, if not a little annoyed to be addressed in (good) French. This site caters very much for the Brits (we saw a few Dutch people too) and would be ideal for a first visit to France, or a great destination after a long drive with a car full of kids. I have to say it wasn’t the site for me – it seemed a little France-lite – and lacked some of the gentle charm of many French campsites I have stayed on.
I feel I should mention the sugarbeet factory in Vic-sur-Aisne and the Oven Chip factory on the main road. These brought their own smells and rumbles to the countryside (not to mention lorries full of beets in October).

The third time we have visited (and my second review of this site) and it appears to have doubled in size since we last went. There are now three lakes, one of which has a small man-made beach. The pool has gained three extra water slides. The small country park has now been given over to independent campers (without hook-ups). The site has its own double-decked coach and runs its own excursions. There is a new glass-walled building by the main lake with four table-tennis tables. We are already planning a fortnight’s stay there next year. Fantastic!

There are now coach trips from the site to Disney World and also Paris. The site has been expanded with additional fishing pools, additional toilet blocks (including a beauty parlour) the later didn't do me any good! There will be a big increase in bungalows, this will I think cause very heavy use of the facilities, may be too much? People who camped near the river found the frogs very noisy during ther night.

September 2003 We have visited this site twice with Eurocamp and it remains one of our favourite sites. It features a small man-made lake with fishing and pedalo’s available for a fee. This may be a drawback for those with toddlers, as it is totally exposed. During the day and evening there is a staffed merry-go-round, trampolines and a very large inflatable bouncy castle, again all available for a fee. Take this into consideration if you are on a budget, as they are not cheap. On the upside, there is a good sized children’s play area once the money starts running out.
There is one outdoor pool and two indoor pools, together with a slide. The restaurant is of good quality. The takeaway was closed due to us being there at the end of the season. We didn’t need to use the showers or toilets as we stayed in a static caravan.
One side of the park is bordered by a slow flowing river, and another by what appears to be the grounds of a small stately home, that were open to the public. Not somewhere to take a football, but a nice walk all the same. The local village Vic-Sur-Aisne is small but has a supermarket and restaurant.
The local terrain is hilly and good for those cyclists who don’t mind staying on or close to the road. You will come across many interesting war memorials on route.
To get to Paris, we found it best to drive to Euro Disney (about an hour away) and use their secure parking. Then get the train to the city centre. This site is also a good base from which to tour the Champagne region. The Forest of Compeigne is worth a visit for those interested in the history of the world wars.
One of the best things about this site is the ducks! You will be greeted by hundreds of ducks everywhere you go, and they move as a herd from one caravan to the next in search of food. Our young daughter would take out a handful of Sugar Puffs every morning and would shortly be surrounded by them.

August 2004 Excellent site, situated near the forest of compiegne, only an hour and a half drive from ero disney. We stayed in the static caravans, lovely secluded pitches, Plenty to do for the kids, clean swimming pools, fishing, definitely worth a return visit.
