We were looking for a site close to the Great Dorset Steam Fair - however due to the hideously unpredictable English summer left it to last minute to book. This site was the only one we could find with vacancies.

It is not all bad news - the site is wonderfully quiet with only faint traffic noise in the distance, fortunately there is no club, shop or disco so it does not seem to attract the noisy brigade.

There are only 3 showers (unisex) and 2 unisex W/Cs attached to the main house and 2 male W/cs and 3 female W/cs in a portacabin in the yard. In both cases the cubicles are really tiny with no-where to place belongings except the floor. There are 2 camping-fields separated by a walkway with hedges each side. The site would be dramatically improved by the provision of decent Shower W/C facilities which would be best located near this walkway and more central to both fields.

There is no hot water to handbasins in the mens porta-cabin or to the washing up area.

The site is level which is a bonus for people in tents and at the time we visited this was short and tidy.

We found good food at the Railway and Tap pub in West Moors and at the Swans in Verwood.

A pleasant site away from it all but in a good position to explore Dorset and the New Forest. There was a nice atmosphere on the site with the buzz of several groups and young children playing in the field.

It became quite busy on the Saturday, many visiting for just one night - and most of these tents were placed in the centre of the field, so it isn't always empty for children to play, but there was still plenty of room.

The one major issue we had, and probably the reason we'd be reluctant to revisit, were the showers. They're fairly basic, but clean and sufficient in size - which is all you ask for when camping - but there were only 3 unisex showers for the whole camp, which isn't enough when it's full . And worse than that, for two of the days we were there they were COLD! We may just have been unlucky with the time we used them (6am) but it seemed pretty hit and miss as to whether there was hot water and if it would stay hot long enough to wash hair etc.

It was difficult also to arrange to freeze icepacks, which again is a must in hot weather.

I think the site is under new ownership and hopefully problems will be addressed because it's an attractive, friendly place and the groups of returning family and friends show that it's quite popular despite these hiccups.

Lovely site, not in the forest but just outside off the main road at Three Legged Cross. Being originally from around there we booked for four days to catch up with parents on the way to main campsite in Devon. Well we got off on the wrong foot as I was quoted on the phone at £9.50 pn for 4 man tent(large) a dog and 2 people, when we arrived I saw that they had prices for 2 man, 4 man and large tent so before putting it up I explained it was quite large, the owner Mr Basil Pitt immediately said it would be £13 pn so I said I wasn't willing to pay that so he suggested I went elsewhere. I agreed then (looking at his empty site) he agreed that we could after all have it at original quoted price. The pitch he put us on was under a tree with very low overhanging branches. Our tent is very tall at nearly 7ft. I pointed this out and he said not to worry that if it was in the way he had some loppers and would happily chop off any branches causing a nuisance. So after starting to put tent up Hubby went to ask him to do so, he did lop off offending branch.

We set to enjoy our short break. There are 2 permanent portacabins consisting of 3 toilets for woman and 3 toilets for men but they only have cold taps to sink. The main block consists of 2 toilets. With hot water to sinks. And 3 showers, all very clean and tidy and supplied with toilet paper and soap and towels in toilet. Unfortunatly only one dishwashing sink with no hot water and no facilities at all for washing clothes, or hanging to dry.

The warden was very nice and friendly. For a stop over it really is a nice site, quiet, though the dawn chorus has to be heard to be believed! And ideally situated for easy acesss to the Forest or South Coast beaches

Rang last minute before Bank holiday weekend and was amazed to find they had availability. Prices very reasonable at £11 a night for a caravan with hook up, 2 adults and 2 kids during half term week.

Site is well maintained immaculately clean shower block containing three showers and toilets. Tents and Caravans pitched around two large fields the centres of which were left free for kids to play in. Wardens were friendly and very helpful. No shop on site but there is a garage couple of minutes away and Morrisons about 5 mins away.

Although half term after Bank Holiday site was almost empty, more to do with the good old British weather than anything else. Site set away from main road and surrounded by trees so a very quite and tranquil setting.

5 mins from site (towards Ringwood) is Moors Valley Country Park – brilliant woodland walks for the kids, miniature narrow gauge railway, go ape trail, fishing lake, play parks, cafeteria and shop. 15 mins to Bournemouth and New Forest.

Eating out I would recommend the Old Barn Farm just down road from campsite (again towards Ringwood) very good food and friendly service.

Would definitely use this site again.

True I had left it very late to try and get a site, having tried many to no avail, I phoned this site, but no answer. Later in the day, the owner rang me bac.K, he was very helpful & managed to fit me in!

Not that well signposted, you tend to drive pass before you realise and on a 40mph road, you cannot go too slowly. Again I found the Warden helpful. My site had already been allocated and the wardens wife, takes you to your site, indicating where the toilets etc are.

They were a lovely couple, as you bump into them during your stay and are constantly going around the site collecting rubbish etc and making sure the toilets and showers are clean.

There are 3 showers and toilets in one newish block and the shower hot water is free, other toilets are sited.

Nice flat site and was full, but not overcrowded No shop on site, that's about 20 mins walk away. Marks out of 10 - 8.
