Genuinely so happy with my stay! First off, Gill was so welcoming and kins, and the field is nicely maintained and contained.

There are two nice toilets on the site, with a further two on the farm, along with washing up facilities, a hot shower! and a fridge freezer available to use.

Everything was so perfect for my stay, location is excellent, ice cream for sale in the farm facilities is exquisite, and I left with a heavy heart this morning.

Had a great time and couldn't recommend it more!

Thankyou

 Absolutely stunning place, campsite 10/10

Only disappointment was a gathering of about 6 families, irresponsible use of air rifles and high powered green laser torches at night, was even shone at an aircraft. Can’t believe the parents even participated

Stunning views, but I wouldn’t stay here again.

Toilets were very rustic - needed a very good clean, thought they smelt okay, but the main issue was that the cubicles open straight onto the outside and the doors don’t shut properly, so you have to hold onto the handle all the time you’re in there (no locks either). There are also no lights. There are more toilets in the farmyard, which do lock, but again, no lights.

It’s a lovely big field but we were kept awake by inconsiderate people talking loudly past midnight - they turned their music down when we asked but our daughter was in tears because she couldn’t get to sleep.

Another family was letting their two dogs roam around the site which meant I had to chase them out of our tent a few times, and the dogs were pooing everywhere too.

We didn’t see anyone from the site after we’d checked in so nothing was being monitored (also didn’t see anything being cleaned).

Our four year old cost the same per night as the adults in our party, so £24 per night was quite steep for the facilities - we’ve stayed on cheaper sites with better facilities.

I don’t expect perfection or brand new immaculate facilities for that price, but a locking toilet door that fits the frame is a pretty basic thing.

In its favour, it’s in a lovely location and though I didn’t meet the site owners (my husband checked in) they were apparently very nice.

Gillian and Chris were really great hosts, very informative about the local area and helpful regarding where to position our camper van.

We stayed on the farm, which was lovely, as we interacted with the animals and was even given a little feed for the horses!

The facilities were really good, two toilets, two pot washing basins and a great shower!

We were told to knock on the farmhouse door if we needed any further help, which was useful.

My husband and I like to explore by walking, our dog is 12 years old, so wasn’t able to really go much further than the next village of Butterton. The Black Lion pub is situated here (25 mins walk), the staff were friendly and the food smelled delicious ( bookings in advanced advised).

The setting of the campsite is rural and the views are fantastic! We had booked for 2 nights, EHU, awning &1dog, costing £15 per night. However, we needed to leave on the Sunday due to family concerns. Gillian was very understanding about this (we paid for 2 nights) and although Gillian wanted to return payment, we didn’t accept as this wouldn’t have been fair.

Overall a lovely, natural place to stay with great hosts!

I received a friendly welcome when I arrived - you have to walk 5 mins from the camp site to Hillsdale Farm, which is on the left of the last farmyard you get to.

This campsite is very well situated for the many walks in the area including the Manifold Valley. 2 footpaths start approx 100m from the site entrance - the one down the road is through a clearly marked gate, and the one up the road goes through a farm; lookout for arrows on the outbuilding walls.

It's a sloping site with some flat areas - the ground at bottom of the site was flat but a bit soft and squidgy.

There are 2 basic clean toilet cubicles with normal flushing toilets and a sink; toilet paper and soap are provided.

A large rubbish bin is by the toilets.

Drinking water is from a tap by the entrance to the site - the water is delicious!

There are old washing machine drums available around the site if you want to make a fire.

Very good value for money at £6 per night.

Lovely site with basic facilities. Friendly farmer owners.

Really good views from the tent and range of great walks from the site.

Children loved the donkeys in next field

 Responded to booking enquiry quickly.

Owners friendly and helpful from the start.

Lovely field, plenty of space with picnic bench and swing. Fabulous view.

Exactly what we wanted as a base for walking in the Manifold Valley.

Lovely people and campsite, even thought it was super wet the campsite was lovely.

Was on a bit of a slope but still found a place that was flattish.

Breathtaking views from the main camping field and nestled right in the heart of the Peak District.

All facilities needed are provided and friendly working farm.

Facilities are a bit rustic and standard will not be up to everyones taste.

However, such good value and idyllic location far outweighs this.

Heartily recommend a stay here.

Excellently situated site with great views and friendly owners. We stayed in tents for 3 nights at the beginning of April.

Contacted the owners a couple of months before the trip and they were really quick to respond and extremely helpful. Field was very muddy but as long as you prepare (and have a 4x4 or can park on the gravel path that bisects the field) you’ll be fine.

There were 2 toilets on the field, a shower available further down the lane near the farm, fresh eggs and firewood were also available if you needed them.

They provide fire pits too (which you could put a grill grate over the top of to cook with).

The field we stayed on was next to the donkey paddock with 4 very friendly residents, which made the trip even better, despite their shouting going off in the early morning.

We wanted to visit Thor’s cave and this site was really close to the village of Grindon which made it easy. Also not too far from Leek and other villages if you want to visit.

Will definitely be visiting again, if just to see the donkeys.
