What a brilliant campsite. Very quiet. Lovely owners. They do everything they can to make you stay the best.
Away from everything but not to far away from a shop. All other campers were quiet and friendly.
Definitely going again.

Simple small site but really enjoyed staying here. The facilities are basic but clean.
The only issue at the time was that the door on the female toilet in the camp field was unable to be shut properly and had to be held but the site was so quiet that it wasn't an issue as you could usually see if someone had gone to the toilet so you knew not to open the door.
There was also the option of using the other toilets on the farm itself just down the lane from the field and this is also where the showers are located.
When we first arrived we were a bit unsure where to find the lady running the site but I had taken her number down from this site and gave her a call and she came to meet us. Gillian was very friendly and offered us a fire pit to take back to the field.
This site is really good value for money at £5 per person per night and the logs for the fire pit cost us £4.
Thors cave is a short drive or can also be walked to from this site and it was a really lovely walk however it was very busy.

Beautiful peaceful location. Host very helpful. Shame about the rowdy campers allowed to play loud music for 10 hours one day and 12 the next until after 2. 30 am!

Lovely site that is exactly what it says it is - a family friendly site on a working farm.
The views are amazing and the donkeys in the adjoining field were cute and friendly.
Site is on a slope but easy to find a good spot, lots of picnic benches to use and fire pits available too.
Toilets on main field with more toilets wash up area and showers few minutes walk down the hill to the farmyard.
Access to the field would be tight with a large motor home or long towing unit as you come down a steep hill and turn almost back on yourself through the gate up hill into the camping field - but we saw plenty of vans, trailers etc
In and out with no issue you just need to be aware

Had a wonderful few days here and the owners couldn't have been more accommodating. If you want the real farm experience on a real working farm, then you're in for a treat.
If you don't mind basic facilities then you'll be fine here. We loved it, and will be back. Just be aware there will be farm machinery being used so keep hold of small children.
We saw a very young one walking around alone, and it's not advisable. They were fine in the end though. Our older children will love it.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the farm.
The owners were very hospitable and provided us with great information. Some good walks were only a stones throw away too.
Would definitely stay again!

Great little camping field on a farm. It's not a fancy site but does have all you need for a proper camping experience, with wash facilities and a shower if needed.
Site owner was very friendly and helpful, children and dogs very welcome. Obviously both need to be supervised as it is a working farm.

Well we turned up midweek in the kids half term hols and we were the only ones there - kinda nice but Lily missed having someone to play with. The owners, Gillian and Chris are wonderfull and they let our young un feed to lambs and chickens etc - so a real treat for them.
The toilets were spotless and for a back to basics cheap night cmapsite I don't think you can beat it. The field is sloping in parts so pick your spot but the views are spectacular and its close to a few very nice pubs or short drive to Leek market town.
We will definitely return as its a very relaxing place and as mentioned the owners really make it special.

We stayed 2 nights in the lower field with electric hook up, from the minute we got there Gill could not have made us feel any more welcome,
The view from the field was stunning,
The shower and toilet were a short walk and basic (don’t expect 5 star) but for what they charge to camp there much much more than adequate and believe me we have paid triple the price for far worse, we all really could not recommend this site enough (provided you are not out for luxury.
Due to price, facilities, views and the welcome we received we have decided to make Big Hillside Farm our base from now on when we visit the Peak District, it really is perfect as long as your not out for 5 star
Thank you so much Gill, see you soon

Lovely, peaceful campsite on a working farm with gorgeous panoramic views of the hills. It is just one field which is quite slopey, so it wouldn’t suit a group with large tents.
We were a group with small kids with 2 campervans, one small 2person ridge tent and one larger family tent. We just about squeezed on to a flat bit by the field entrance.
The owners had just installed 2 toilets and a stand pipe at the bottom of the field, so you don’t have to trek down the lane to the farmhouse any more, unless you want the shower or washing up facilities.
We did a fantastic circular walk straight from the farm over Grindon to Thor’s Cave then back down the Manifold valley to the cafe at Witton Mill and along the stream back up to the farm, it really was idyllic and very peaceful once off the beaten track, considering it was Easter weekend and the start of the hot weather.
Firepits and wood are provided, and there are very handy picnic benches dotted around for campers to use. The kids absolutely loved it as they had total freedom, there are no roads to worry about.
The only improvement I would suggest is that they install a washing-up sink outside as it’s currently at the back of the toilet & shower block in a dark dingy corner.
Overall fantastic value for money, only £5 per adult per night and no other charges.
