Popular and well organised site which is one of the few available for visiting the city of Edinburgh.
Location is good as it’s so well connected to centre by public transport.
We spent 3 days at the Fringe Festival and used this as a base. Edinburgh is a fantastic place - but even more so during the month of August.
Facilities all good. Would use again.

Great camp site. Shower & toilet block brand new, located right next to our pitch. Showers worked well and the private sink areas were useful. Nice back lit mirrors.
Good sink area & a drinking water tap were handy.
They were cleaned & maintained but some people are just grotty & left hairballs from their hairbrushes on the floor & unflushed toilets regularly.
Lovely grounds and helpful staff at the check in desk. They happily charged our phones at £2 each.
We got the bus right outside the site into the city centre which took about 30 minutes & cost £2 per adult. Regular service & stopped centrally on Princes Street.
Great location and would return.

This site makes a good base for visiting Edinburgh.
We had 3 days at the Fringe festival which is well worth a visit.
Hundreds of street entertainers and indoor shows with something for everyone. A brilliant event.
Site well located for access into the centre with good facilities.

More than impressed with this site.
A nice friendly welcome. It’s obviously a well organised site with excellent facilities - immaculate large modern toilet and shower block with a bath too!
A modern campers kitchen and dining room with four sections comprised of an electric kettle, toaster and microwave.
A lovely bar and restaurant up at the hall.
I will certainly be back.

The pluses - good location for visiting the sights. Close to pub/restaurant. Good dog walking. Nice reception area. Fully serviced pitch.
The negatives - stayed in area F where the pitches are too small and far too close to each other with very little room for manoeuvrer. All pitches are uneven and sloping on all sides.
Paid extra for an awning but could not put it up as it would not reach the ground because of slope. No footpaths so everyone just walked between the plots.
Paid for 3 nights wifi but could not get it so have had to send an email to get money back.
The neutrals- in my opinion very pricey for what it is. Very big site with everyone crammed in which is not my cup of tea. Cannot comment on facilities as we did not use them.
We will not return

On arriving at this site overall impression was high, check in was easy reception was very nice, but all that changed when we eventually found our pitch which was a hard standing that was just about wide enough to get my motorhome on you then step out into either mud or overgrown grass, two pitches here would make one elsewhere, it looks like they have crammed as many pitches in has they could.
There is also a lack of paths to the shower block and bin areas resulting in people walking through pitches.
Worst site I have stayed on for a long time and not the cheapest.
The only thing going for it is it’s location.

Mortonhall is like the curate's egg - good in parts, but more than a few negative points that could be easily rectified.
Firstly the positives:-
Excellent quiet location close to the city centre with an excellent bus service.
Superb pub in the old stables block - courtyard seating, good beers (and everything else) and very good food - all reasonably priced and dog-friendly.
Plenty of places for dog walks.
Good shop.
Very pleasant and helpful staff.
Now for the rest.
The site is set mostly on a gentle slope, but no effort has been made to level the pitches - they all follow the contours. On our first pitch sloping in two directions, it was impossible to get even close to level. Fortunately we were offered another pitch at the bottom of the slope and this was fine.
There is a new facilities block under construction (which should have all necessary facilities, based on its size) which will be a welcome addition, since all the other established facilities blocks are tired, lacking in maintenance and not always clean.
The only 'assisted shower-room facility' is tucked away in the corner of the stone buildings, on the edge of the site so with a long treck for some people. And frankly it is in an appalling state - some 'fixtures' which are no longer fixed have just been left on the windowsill - the shower drain cover is in a disgusting state, and I am quite sure that germs are there.
Some temporary toilet facilities are new and clean, but one closest to us was without hand-wash and paper towels for 2-days. Toilet rolls are not put in the holders and just left on a shelf over the cisterns - altogether not very civilised.
The laundry is a joke - there are three domestic washers and dryers and one commercial dryer. Two of the washing machines and two of the driers were out of service for our entire 2-week stay.
The management needs to get a grip of their cleaning service and do a bit more maintenance (no doubt putting it off until the new facility is open). We would only return once the new facilities block is open and if we could reserve one of a small number of pitches that are level and well located.
And to cap it all, this is the most expensive per-night site we have stayed at (15 so far) this year.
