We went to this campsite on a very windy couple of nights in June. The pitches were nice an flat but quite exposed and in busy times there is not much space between tents.

Facilities were good. Nice clean showers and toilets. The site has its own shop which is an advantage. There is a bus stop just outside the site so you can travel into Edinburgh.

Fantastic site, great location, great shop and reasonable prices also well stocked.

Had a fantastic pitch level and close to shower block.

However the shower block was dirty not well cleaned at all, check sheet system in place but what was checked was not the cleaness of the block. Within a 48 hr period a cleaner did turn up and did a half hearted job.Diposable razor still between duck boards and plenty of black mould . When he left.

We have stayed before and it was cleaner than this. Will be going back to C.C.Site in future.

Brilliant clean site with allocated pitch, your even given a map of the site with bus timetable and other information on it. Clean and tidy toilets / showers etc.
The stables bar on site is worth a visit, great food served by friendly staff and all at a reasonable price. Easy access to centre of edinburgh, will definitely use this site again.

Large site, well stocked shop and pleasant staff.  Showers roomy and with plenty of hot water although could get a bit grubby.  Stables bar and restaurant fantastic on rainy nights, and they have a book sharing scheme which is brilliant. Great regular bus service into Edinburgh to Princes Street that takes 20 mins.  Biggest gripes were the costs of dryers (£1.50 token for 15 minutes), and the most bizarre booking system I have experienced.  Although we booked a week in advance (for two weeks) they kept moving us as they had booked others into our pitch.  One morning we were moved 10 yds, to another pitch, and another campervan also had to move across the grass to an identical pitch.  Most campers have to re-book each day and will often be moved.  I kept seeing peopled trudging across grass carrying tents and belongings!

I'm surprised that I have never reviewed this site as it is one of my childhood favourites and it was also the first site that I took my family to, and was the first time I camped too as an adult.

I love everything about Mortonhall. The only thing that spoils it is the price I feel. Mind you, I always have an issue with the price. But the good things about it make up for that. We decided to extend our summer hols by heading for Edinburgh and it was only while I was driving up the drive that I remembered it was August and the Festival was on! However, that's one of the advantages of having a tent! No caravans were being let in but tents were.
We were given a pitch right at the top of the site, just behind the wall (if you look over the wall you can see Arthur's Seat and the Castle) and I was delighted. The only downside to being at such a remote, and unused at all other times of the year, spot was that we only had a portacabin with toilets and showers (very basic but clean!) and I was a little annoyed that we were paying the same as people who had the proper facilities further down the site.

However, the weather was glorious and, although there are buses at the gate, we drove to Musselburgh and took the train into the city. There is also a park and ride but I could never find it.

I am a huge fan of Mortonhall. The staff are always friendly, mostly students or young people travelling from other countries. It makes it feel cosmopolitan. I love it!

Mortonhall just off the A702 [City Bypass] Turn off at the Lothianburn Junction, at the top of the hill turn right at the lights, into Frogston road. 1.7 miles and the entrance is on the left for the Garden centre and park. Reception is fully manned and has a well stocked shop and accessory shop. Papers on a daily basis. The site is grass/park land and slopes quite badly at the top end of the site.Over 300 pitches, so its a big site.[We had to ask to be moved due to the slope.]
Well maintained site with regular work being carried out through the day. Well appointed toilet/shower blocks dish washing area and laundry facilities. EHU available as is the 'standard' of pitch you can choose.

Well behaved visitors we found and the site is silent after 11.00pm. A well laid out play area for the children. Dog walking areas.

The Stables Restaurant is clean well stocked and friendly. Meals are served at an average cost of £ 8 for a main course.
Edinburgh city centre is a 15 minute drive. Morrison's and Tesco are nearby.
All things considered a site worth a visit. We'll be back.

What a great site.  We visited between Christmas and New Year. Handy for Princes Street and all the usual Edinburgh sights. We had a luxury pitch with services and a hard standing (which was a bit pricey and could have done with being a little larger as barely enough room for the caravan never mind an awing on the hard standing).
The grass was in a bit of a mess due to all the rain and the units coming and going as you needed to drive from the tarmac across grass to get to your pitch which was a bit of a problem with non 4WD units.
This did not detract from the very friendly helpful wardens with loads of local information and maps to hand, spotless clean toilets and showers, restaurant nearby (did not use but it looked really nice) and great woodland and garden walks.  Take your walking boots or your wellies and explore this beautiful area only a stones throw from the Capital. A great time was had at this site.

We arrived late at this site due to having a bit of trouble finding it.  We found a spot and set up for the night.  The next morning we went and booked in and they were happy for us to be on the pitch we had chosen.  Reasonably price per night with a good stocked shop and friendly staff.  The number 11 bus goes from outside the campsite into Edinburgh, takes about 20 mins.  You do need the correct money to travel but the shop on the site will happily change money for you.  The shower and toilet block could be improved, it was cold and didn't appear to be heated.  The showers weren't very clean and your clothes get wet whilst having a shower.  They cut the grass while we were there and most of the cut grass ended up in the shower block and no one seemed bothered about cleaning it up. Excellent base for visiting Edinburgh.

We have stayed at this site on many occasions now and just can't wait to go back again!

It is very peaceful and tranquil and great for exploring in and around Edinburgh. Not to far from a shopping outlet with big supermarket however on site shop is really well stocked too.

Had a meal in the bar and the staff were brilliant, very child friendly site with great adventure park!

Showers are very clean and roomy and again great for families because you have enough space to shower your young children without getting wet yourself. Good bus service into Edinburgh so you don't have the hassle of taking the car into the city centre. Great walks around the park too (our dog had the time of his life!)

All in all I would very highly recommend this campsite we have not had a bad experience here yet.
Great value for money with wonderful helpful staff

Great site, excellent for visiting Edinburgh as the bus stop is right outside the site entrance and the fare into the city is very reasonable. Excellent facilities and lovely arboritum where you can walk the dog. Signposted from the motorway so no trouble to find.
