We booked a pitch for the first week of the school holidays, and was surprised by the near cult status of this site - people were queueing to get on the site from very early Saturday morning. I overheard one family say that they had driven through the night to get a pitch! Another family on leaving were overheard to say it had been a privilege to stay at the site! We had pre-booked a pitch in the Nissan field, and despite being with four other families who had booked with the same party, we had been split-up, which wasn't so bad for us, but for those who found themselves amongst us it may have been slightly more daunting. However, as we all got to know each other, it was a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. We also found out why it was called the Nissan field - no, not because of a fondness of the Japanese motoring company, but because of the large and rusty nissan shelter that dominates the view, which could easily be shielded from view with some shrubs. Although we were allocated pitches they were so tightly packed that we were forced to cross guy-ropes and park our cars in front of the tents, further restricting the amount of space for the children to play. There is no children's play area, and no where for them to ride their bikes. On the plus side the showers and facilities were good, although shower tokens at 30p a shot for 3 minutes were a bit steep. And their attempts to recycle waste bottles, newspapers and cartons etc is to be commended. The views from the upper fields are stunning, and the walk down to Dancing Ledge is breathtaking - especially at 5.00am for a spot of mackerel fishing. There is an air of continental camping about this place - the fact that it was a scorching week helped. But, sitting on the terrace outside the shop and you could quite easily be transported to a site on the Med. The rules are strictly adhered to which makes the site lovely and quiet after curfew, and the camp commandant, with clipboard, ensures that everyone is having a good time. We enjoyed the week, it was reasonably priced, but I don't think we'll be back, as there is just not enough room for the little ones.

Pretty, smallish site. Visted for a Sunday night at start of July during very hot weather. Site was not full and stayed quiet but judging by the close proximity of some of the tents Saturday night must have been busy.
Purbeck Island is a wonderful area and I'm sure that demand for camping exceeds the supply.
Owners very pleasant, appreciated their many environmental efforts. They have given the site a lot of thought and it shows. Toilets / showers fairly basic but adequate. Token showers, though many walkers in area so understandable.
Hint - we pitched at the left side on the left field (to the entrance), it was shaded from the sun in the morning, was nice not to wake up at 5AM.
Site is recommended. Though probably too small for large groups during peak times.

Nice big site that is still a bit wild, great location, quiet during week became heaving on friday night. Loads of the middle classes arriving late and noisily pitching, excited kids etc. Noisy next morning as liberal parents allow excited kids to express themselves at 6. Good facilities, great walks to the coast and great view over Isle of Wight.

We went over Easter - the campsite was full, but didn't seem overcrowded, as you were given plenty of room for your tent and the site was very quiet at night. The toilets and showers were clean and there was only a short wait first thing in the morning. There are some super walks from the campsite and there are pubs a short walk away which serve excellent food, although they did get very busy when the site was full. We will definitely be going back.

This site had a lovely atmosphere, and happy feel. You could hear sheep baaing, and insects humming happily all day! Nice views and walks down to the Dancing Ledge (if you can make it!) Ideal for visiting Swanage, Corfe Castle and Studland Bay. Clean but basic toilets and a little shop. The site had a nice field to walk the dogs, and at night a really special atmosphere. One night there was a problem with a Lady and her two gentlemen friends playing stip poker very loudly until 3/4 am in a tent a few pitches down from us! We were so tired from lack of sleep next day but the site owner dealt with them as soon as they were told of the issue next morning, and asked them to leave. We were also on the same night woken up by a large black dog trying to get in and eat our food, but this all added to the fun in the end! We are sad that this site does not take Caravans as we would like to go back in our Van.

Our favourite site! Great walks along the Purbeck coast. I especially like the little rabbits which lurk about. Best to get there early on the summer weekends or you won't get a space. All the basic facilities you will need; not a caravan in sight. Friendly staff. New for 2006 - refurbished showers. On a clear morning you will wake up and see the sun rising over the Isle of Wight.

Spent over a week here in late May, running up to the spring bank holiday weekend.
Up until the friday there were very few people, just a handful of walkers and climbers and a few live-ins, and hundreds of rabbits. Heaving over the bank holiday weekend but OK. Copious shower facilities coped admirably, useful shop, many washing up sinks.
Take the walk to Dancing Ledges over the hill behind the campsite. Worth the climb back up.

August 2005 Stopped here for the week leading up to August Bank Holiday - when site was running full for all of that time. Despite this pitches were well spaced, and the site is arranged in such a way that it doesn't feel overfull. Toilets and showers were under severe pressure - and failed to maintain hot water or even water pressure at the busiest times.
Site location is superb - easy access directly from the site to the coastal paths and down into Swanage - whilst Bournemouth/Poole and the Lulworth Cove and Corfe Castle etc are a short drive away.
Welcome to the the site by the Managers (Colin & Jean) is excellent, and their regular touring of the site during each day kept both unruliness and excess spreading by some to an absolute minimum.
We will return, but as we dont have kids, the family friendliness of the site means it would suit us better outside of school holidays.

August 2005 Just come back from this site and really enjoyed it - although they were fully booked and had to accomodate us by putting us with four other vans in a space that was probably meant for two at 8 pounds a night all in we couldn't complain! Facilities are basic but the site has everything you need and everyone there was very friendly which made it for us.
Also - great pub just up the road in worth that specialises in the local cider and has great views over the sea. The cider tastes especially good if you take one of the numerous cliff walks there! Also have the beaches at studland and supermarkets in swanage if you need it. Lovely site that really promotes what camping is about - enjoying the countryside!!!

July 2004 Took My son there for a couple of days.
Fairly crowded site but not overbearingly so. Facilities better than some more expensive sites I have stayed on. We were in a nice secluded corner and the only thing that may keep you awake is the nocturnal lambs.
Good pub 5 minute walk away as well.
