An ideal site for campers this one. You only need to book at busy times (BH Weekends) We arrived at 4pm on a Friday afternoon, booked in and were shown to a sheltered pitch. The facilities at this time were a little jaded but this was the end of a busy season. Everything in the toilet block was clean and worked, the showers needed tokens and we were told how long to expect before the hot water stopped. The estimate was spot on and you could have a good lather up and rinse before it went off. The washing up area was sheltered and well equipped with hot water. The shop was well stocked although we only needed one or two items, there was a reasonable choice and a useful selection of camping equipment. The site is right on the edge of the village and there are several pubs where you can eat as well as a village shop. Security on the site is good and your tent is labelled with your leaving date once you have pitched. As this was my first visit to a campsite for many years, I was a bit apprehensive about noise but this site enforces a strict curfew from 11pm and we weren't disturbed. Locally there are a lot of family attractions in and around Swanage and Corfe Castle and for us, the proximity of the Dorset Coast Path to the site was the main attraction.

Stayed in June during some lovely weather in June. Unfortunately we weren't able to book in advance and arrived to see a 'full' sign on the gate. However, they let us in (with our 2 family sized tents and 2 cars) and we managed to find a nice spot where we could fit both the tents. The showers cost 25p for 3 mins (tokens available at shop) and we were a little dubious about this but it worked out for the best as it meant that there was never a queue for the showers! there were also enclosed sinks for those who just wanted a quick wash. The campsite had great recycling facilities which we liked and the shop had lots of handy bits and bobs at fairly reasonable prices. The only probelm we had was that the beach was a real trek to to get to (very hilly!) so would be completely unsuitable for kids (although my friend's 5 year old just about managed it). The beach was really cliffy and we couldn't get down to it with a 5 year old in tow but the views were beautiful. We drove into Swanage and went to the beach there which was busy but had a nice atmosphere - parking prices were reasonable too. They also had public taps in town where you could rinse your sandy feet! Would recommend for those who like an adventure - not really for families as there is little within walking distance to entertain kids (although my friend's 5 year old was happy playing badminton with us!).

Idyllic site in a great location. Fantastic views and reasonably well stocked shop. Sadly let down by the gents showers/toilets. Whilst I don't mind the 1950's holiday camp style the decision to rely on enzymes to clean the gents urinals instead of regular flushing is a mistake. The stench of urinals that haven't been flushed for months is overpowering. 6 months later instead of remembering a great long weekend our main memory is the toilets on this site. Sadly until they're updated we won't be back

As a seasoned camper & as a member of the Camping & Caravan club I found this site to be excellent. Most of the pitches were pretty level, with a decent distance between them. The shop was very well stocked & the staff were very pleasant & helpful. The showers were adequate & I liked the time limit of 3 mins per token. The only problems I found with the facilities was the urinal in the gents toilet was draining into an uncovered drain, causing the toilets & shower block to smell of urine, & the cleaning of the toilets could have been a bit more thorough. The site does get very busy at weekends, but we were informed of this, so we decided to arrive & leave on a weekday. Public transport is quite good in the area so we decided to walk into Swanage along the Priory way (I think that's what it's called). Caught the bus to the Purbeck Way, walked to Corfe Castle, caught the steam train back to Swanage & the bus back to the campsite. All-in-all I really enjoyed my stay at Toms Field & it's probably one of the best sites I've stayed on in all my years of camping. The added bonus of there being no caravans.

The website of this campsite was a little deceiving. It made it look as though it was out in the sticks when it wasn't really. (It was nearer to the village of Langton Matravers than I expected.) However, the views were lovely and the pitches were well laid out (marked off with letters to let you know where to pitch) and flat. There was a shop on-sight that was well stocked and sold great hot chocolates. The toilets were clean and well stocked and the showers (25p a go) were lovely and warm. There were also areas for washing up. The local pubs were only a ten minute walk away (I'd recommend The Ship Inn) and coastal footpaths run straight from the campsite down to such gems as Dancing Ledge and even along to Swanage. However, despite all this, I found Tom's Field to be a bit too orderly and busy for my liking. Yes, it is in a good location and is well mapped out with decent facilities, but I personally prefer a pitch-where-you-like layout. Also, the fact that it works on a first come, first serve basis and doesn't take bookings (or perhaps it does.we had to move after one night's stay because apparently our pitch was booked, although I'd been told twice on the phone that campers were unable to book, so I don't really get that!) is slightly annoying, because your stay is not guaranteed.

Really lovely location and really friendly owners. Good walks, and town nearby. Awful weather when we went unfortunately. Really nice pitches- flat and spacious and the toilets/showers were clean and warm. Well stocked shop on site although not always open. Would definitely go there again- Highly recommended!

I would echo the favourable comments by previous reviewers, just got back from a two day stay and have no complaints. The shop is excellent Site is compact but well laid out. The electric showers could do with upgrading, to get them warm enough you have to reduce the flow to a trickle. The 25p token lasts for 3 minutes which is just about long enough. The on site recycling facilities are commendable. Nice location in Langton Matravers which is a small village o the outskirts of busier Swanage. Has a couple of pubs and a convenience store. The owners are welcoming and helpful and keep a watchful eye out. The site was packed on a bank holiday weekend but you could hear a pin drop at night it was so quiet. Ideally situated for walkers/climbers/cycling etc. NOTE, they don't take bookings so its first come first served. We will definitely pay a return visit.

This is a great site. I'll try and give as much detail as possible. Location is close to Swanage and on the edge of Langton village, which has two pubs, Post Office, bus links (Poole to Swanage) and a Purbeck Stone / quarrying Museum. The campsite itself has a good shop with more than you'd expect, washing machine (and you can dry your washing outside your tent -they arent fussy about washing lines!), good washing up facilities, drying room, baby changing room and hand washing room. In the ladies there are many washing areas (sink and curtain), lots of toilets and they have soap (in dispensers). The showers are getting re-done this winter (currently 3 showers that cost 25p for about 3 long minutes) There is also a hair dryer and mirrors! The pitching is spacious with quite a few different fields. Please note that mid afternoon on a Friday it starts filling up and gets very full, even in September. It's an excellent place / location for walkers and climbers. There is a strict quiet time from 11:45 pm each evening. There are lots and lots of daddy-long-legs everywhere eg toilets etc. The fields have rabbits and badgers. We camped next to a dry stone wall and sadly next to two rat holes. Our advice is to keep food in your car (if you have one) or only have tinned food, the rats etc will help themselves! The current price for an average tent is £10 per night. This site is rural and does not take caravans. The shop has tons of tourist information from bus times to maps and the local pub menu. You can hire out BBQ's, gas, ice blocks. The pitches are pretty flat and this campsite is very popular! It focuses on recycling and thinking about our environment. It's very friendly and has a great atmosphere.

Stayed for two nights at toms field with my 2 young terrors. Nice basic site. Toilets and showers fine and clean, no late noise.Great walks, well stocked shop and a worm welcome from staff. Swanage beach about 3 miles away which has a nice sandy stretch for the kids. Jurassic coastal walks and fossal hunting about 6 miles away at Kimmeridge. It would be nice to have some childrens swings, frames etc on site . I would stay at this site again.

Spent first week of school holidays at this site. Really disappointed on arrival due to close proximity of tents. No room in between tents for your car - you had to park it at the front of your tent. We had booked months ago to be with group of family friends that go away each year. Four of us were allocated the Nissen field but not next to each other. It was only fortunate that the other campers in this field were very nice as you couldn't help tripping over each other at times, especially with the children being around you all the time due to no children's area. No nice views from this field - you work out why it is called the Nissen field when you get there and see the big corrugated in building in front of you. Showers and toilets were ok ish, but only three showers for ladies open in the morning (until later in day when the nissen hut was open with two more.although when someone stays in this unit it is a bit uncomfortable coming out of the shower with them around). Tokens a bit of a pain but understand about the walkers. Surrounding countryside beautiful - lots of lovely walks from there. Site quiet at night. We had great weather which helped alleviate how we felt - think if it had rained we would have gone home!
