Decided to try this site after reading reviews but when we arrived site full sign was up (this was a tues afternoon) but thought ask anyway, glad I did the staff were most helpful and after a bit of searching found us a decent pitch. Nice quiet site small shop that sells basics, toilet and showers although old were clean and well maintained. There are 2 pubs within walking distance about 10mins (although didn't try them) and swanage itself is about 5 mins car ride. This site is an excellent base for exploring the Dorset coast and at £14 per night not bad value all in all a very pleasant 3 days spent at a very nice site.

Beautiful place to stay at start of season, we have stayed here many times. High season this site gets very busy and we tend to avoid this time, but March, April and May are always good.
The shower facilities are little old and dilapidated, even after redecoration and refurbishment, but they are usually clean. Four showers per gender, 20p each. Generous supply of toilets.
There is a good view form the site which is sheltered from the prevailing seas winds. The main footpaths go from the site to the coastal paths and our favourite spot, Dancing Ledge.
The site shop sells almost everything you could want and is very reasonably priced. There is a good recycling ethos.

Finally got around to trying Tom's Field, having stayed at several other sites in Dorset in the past. Arrived at 1020pm on Wednesday and drove straight on to a fine pitch with hook-up. Staff are intermittently dismissive and ultra-friendly, which is interesting, at least. Facilities are fine.
Attracts a wide range of people - we got chatting to some fellow campervan users who were really charming.
We went off for the weekend to a festival, then returned on the Sunday to a different pitch. Our neighbours were just leaving, which gave us lots of space and a nice view.
Tom's Field is a superb site in my favourite location. The Square and Compass is one of the world's greatest pubs and lovely Wareham is a short busride away. Dorset is magic.

Ah, the elusive Tom's Field!
After numerous occasions trying to get on to this site- albeit on a weekend, so it has always been full- we turned up on a Tuesday, and found there was plenty of room.
It's a very pretty site, and of course everyone who reads 'Cool Camping' will want to stay there as the book gushes over it. Largely, the book isn't wrong. The site has good facilities- a well stocked shop (not sure why they had to sell Walls sausages and bacon though, when there are local butchers), and the shower and loo facilities were very clean and well maintained.
The pitches all look good, and mostly level or gently sloping. We were on the 'upper' level and there was plenty of room, although the pitch was a little close to the car track. One quibble we had was that the previous campers on our pitch didn't pick up their cigarette butts. Obviously not proper campers, and not the site's fault. At night, it is dark as the only lights are those by the shower block. This is great, and gives a feel of being somewhere really rural- even though you are in Langton Matravers.
The site has direct access to a footpath which takes you to Dancing Ledge and the South West Coast Path. We did a 5 mile walk in the evening, broken up by a lovely pint of cider in the Square and Compass pub in Kingston Matravers- worth a visit, as it's really quirky and has lovely views of the sea. There is also loads to do in this area with Swanage and all its seasideiness, to Corfe Castle, which is fantastic.
We hope to return to Toms Field. It is within walking distance of a good pub- although do check if they are doing food if you plan to eat there, as there must've been a problem on the day we were there so it wasn't serving.
Recommended.

Fantastic site, really reasonably priced, incredibly clean facilities, well stocked shop, friendly.
We arrived on Thursday afternoon at about 2:30pm in Whitweek. We were lucky to get a pitch, they were just about to put out the Site Full sign! Directed to the second to last pitch available which was perfect. Tucked away in a smaller area with 7 other campers, close to shop and facilities without being noisy or cramped.
The shop sold everything you could ever need: bacon, croissants, milk, eggs, cereal, sausages, fishing nets, postcards, chocolate, baked beans, toys the lot. Nice prices too. They will loan ice packs and bbq's. Very helpful staff with excellent local knowledge.
They are very environmentally aware and encourage recycling of everything. Very clean site. Fantastic showers with plenty of hot water.
There isn't a playground but our boys (age 3, 7 and 10) didn't complain once, they soon made friends and played hide and seek for hours.
We had a lovely meal at a nearby pub in the village (also dog friendly)
We walked to nearby Dancing Ledge with the dog, could have easily walked into Swanage too but always took the car! Dogs are allowed on the beaches at Studland but not Swanage.
We had a wonderful 4 days here - even bought the book! Will definitely return. Excellent back to basics campsite as it should be.

First time visitor to the site, really impressed with location, facilities and staff. Excellent location leads on to South West Coastal Path with stunning views and walks, when we arrived we just chose our pitch and set up, facilities include well stocked shop and toilet and shower block which were cleaned frequently, the staff were very helpful and infomative. If you want a quiet no frills camp site I would highly recommend this site

First time visitors to this campsite and we're not disappointed.
A real mix of flat and slightly sloped pitches and with a couple of small plots tucked away from the main fields for a more private affair! Very quiet when we arrived on the thursday but the weekend visitors meant the site was full by saturday evening.
Facilities are good - hot water/water pressure can be a bit of an issue when the site is really busy but everything is cleaned regularly so no complaints really. Shop stocks almost everthing you could want or need and at reasonable prices.
Will be going back again later on this year without doubt!

Have been to this site several times.
In fact we love it so much we try and go 2-3 times a year.
Facilities are very good and always kept clean.
The site is environmentally friendly and encourages everyone to do 'their part'.
Location is perfect with fantastic walks and great pubs nearby.
Staff are helpful and friendly.
Gets very busy at the weekends and school holidays.

What a fabulous site, a laid back approach with just the right facilities, Dogs welcome on leads which is excellent as the coastal walks surrounding the area are superb, With easy access to Swanage about 40 mins walk, keeps the cost of parking down,
The shower blocks are basic but pipping hot, and the washing facilities hit all the right buttons, I can honestly say that this is a fantastic start to any holiday the basics are there and the shop is stocked with all that a camper needs, especially the freezing facility what a god send.
Highly recommended with a feel of tranquillity and peacefulness, this area of the coastal line is a must to visit by all levels of experience in camping, for the beginner the level pitches are an asset.

We enjoyed our stay on this site although having telephoned to enquire about booking a pitch was told to just come along. We arrived to find the site fully booked but asked to wait for people to pack up so that we could be allocated a pitch. This took several hours but the weather was good to sit outside the shop/office. It was very busy but the pitch was OK, toilet facilities not wonderful but adequate, shop OK but not overly stocked - good on recycling etc. The village has two pubs and we managed to walk over the cliff to Swanage and back. There appeared to be regular bus services as well if you don't want to use a car all the time. Lots to see and do.
