Stayed at Tom's Field for the first time this year after our usual site was full. We'd read a lot about it and had high hopes. We weren't disappointed. Good flat pitches, great location, reasonable shop. Facilities ok, nothing special, a bit tired looking maybe but functional. The best thing about the site in my view was the atmosphere. Very friendly and relaxed. We were lucky with the weather so people were sitting out and chatting and the kids could run around safely.
Site was pretty busy as it was half term but still it didn't feel overcrowded and we didn't feel hemmed in. This is beautiful part of Dorset ad Tom's Field is a good base for exploring Corfe and the steam railway (big hit with the kids even though we've done it for years) and for access to Studland. We had dinner in one of the nearby pubs which was a bit disappointing and very pricey.

I've just been on a return visit to Tom's Field and it's a great place! One of the big advantages is its location - approx half a mile from the Coastal Path at Dancing Ledge and on the edge of the village of Langton Matravers - handy for pubs and the village shop.
When I arrived in the middle of the afternoon, the shop was closed but there was a notice to set up and pay later. The people in the shop were very friendly and I can't fault the cleanliness of the showers and toilets.
As a previous contributor has said, the lack of marked pitches on such a crowded site can be a problem. Even with a tent, you need somewhere to park your car and if you go out, your space can sometimes disappear! Being charitable, some families did rather spread themselves out, leaving very little room for their neighbours. I would suggest that the site is marked out with single and double pitches and prices are set accordingly.
The site has a nice, cheap and cheerful, laid-back philosophy and it's amazing that so many people can co-exist in such a relatively small area. And it WAS nice and quiet at night (apart from the rain on the tent!)

I stayed on this site for a few months this year due to an unusual family situation. I very much enjoyed the sites beautiful setting, the relaxed atmosphere and the friendly staff.
I didn't use the shop at first but when I did was pleased to find it had a good selection of goods and the prices were not that dear. I would have liked to have seen more pasties on sale.
I was impressed with the recycling on the site everything from batteries to cardboard, no wonder the site won the David bellamy award, and the loos are cleaned without any heavy duty chemicals, just vinegar is used.
In the months I stayed the facilities were generally clean and up together. The shower / loos floor did get grubby when it rained/ the site was very busy but had always beeen cleaned by the time of my next visit.
The staff struck me as friendly and hard working. I enjoyed my long stay and would recommend the site to others.
Local facilites are good, a cinema in Wareham, beaches nearby, excellent coastal walks available, I would recommend Dancing Ledge, Chapman's Pool, Swire Head and Arne Nature Reserve as great places for a day out or a picnic. I made use of the local libraRy while I stayed, It was small but has a good selection of books.

We stayed here last year as well, in April, and really like the site because of its location. The showers are clean out of season, and the private wash basins a good idea. They also recycle as much as possible which many sites don't bother to do. It's a great site for walkers as the coast path is about 15 minutes walk away. I didn't notice any grumpy person in the shop but there weren't many people about. The shop is very well stocked with bits and pieces for camping , basic food, and secondhand books.

A very popular site in a great position for visiting a gorgeous part of Dorset. I really liked the way the site was divided into different areas and there were a couple of little places with only enough room for a couple of tents which were more secluded. There are so many things to do in the area that we couldnt fit it all in in the few days we were there. Lulworth Cove was beautiful and well worth a visit, as was the Square and Compass pub in Worth Matravers - great beers and pasties, with a great view if you get a seat in the garden.
The site seemed popular with families and we did get woken up a couple of times by crying babies, so not the place for you if you're after a quieter camp.
The facilities weren't exactly great - all were quite old and only clean for a short time. There is a lot of effort made to ensure that campers recycle and are concious of the environment - which most people seem to respect, but some investment in the site's facilities would be very beneficial.
The camp shop was well stocked, it was a shame however that the couple who ran the camp lacked a bit of enthusiasm - they really let their campsite down.
Despite a few downsides, I had a great few days at this site and would have loved to spend more time in the area.

We camped here for 8 nights in mid July just before the school holidays, arriving on a Friday afternoon. The campsite was full by that evening, and was about half full the following mid week. When we left others were waiting to pitch in our place. We paid £12/night for 2 people, car, and tent.
The site was situated at the end of a quiet cul de sac at the west end of the village. The local bus stopped close by with hourly services to Swanage and Corfe. There was a pub, shop, and small museum in the village. The coast path was about a mile to the south, with good footpaths from the campsite.
The site comprised one main field, with a couple of small fields adjacent, one for pre-arranged groups. There were no marked off pitches, giving a bit of a festival feel to the site. The well stocked shop and sanitary facilities were at one end. The toilets and showers were reasonably clean, and there was always hot water, soap, and loo paper. The showers ran 3 minutes for a 25p token. The ladies block also had token operated hair driers.
There was a 'quiet after 11:45' rule, and this was complied with.
The woman in the shop always appeared hassled, and could have been more friendly. The other staff were helpful and friendly.
This was a popular well run site in a lovely location, and a great place to stay.

Nice tidy campsite with adequate facilities. The shop was quite well stocked with most things that you need for a trip away.
The shower facilities were basic and got a bit dirty around 11am so that was slightly disappointing.
Based in a good location, as said before this site is good for Swanage, Corfe Castle, Studland etc.
One gripe is the lack of pitches being laid out etc. If you went out you could have lost your pitch and some people were getting cross with the haphazard nature when tents were being put up.
This would be a fantastic site instead of just a good one if pitches were marked out and reserved accordingly.

We have just returned from a weekend break at this site. I haven't been camping for years and had read some very good reviews about this place so I was excited to see what it was like.
Having been there, I'm not sure that I quite understand what all the fuss is about and I feel a little silly that I allowed myself to be sucked in by the hype.
The campsite was pleasantly located and the shop well-stocked (although it closes very early). Our fellow campers were chatty and friendly and everyone abided by the 11.45 'quiet down'. The site is a short drive from Swanage and some lovely villages on the Purbecks. So far so good.
However;
(i) As the previous review mentioned, the people in the shop were not friendly. I think that, after recent publicity, they simply don't know how to handle the influx of visitors
(ii) I didn't see the toilets being cleaned once whilst we were there (we were there for 3 days). This is despite the fact that the site was full. On our second day there, I asked what time the toilets would be cleaned and was given very short shrift and told that if they were grubby it was because 'hundreds of people are using them'. I didn't find this helpful. People were generally pretty good and were cleaning after themselves but I don't like paying for a shower which hasn't even been cleaned
(iii) The site was full for all 3 days of our stay and you couldn't swing a cat. I was disappointed as I had wanted to stay somewhere with a bit of space.
(iv) There is absolutely nowhere for children to play let alone kick a ball. A road runs right through the campsite (which is small)and there is no open space or even small spaces between tents pitched either side of the road (or in between the giant luxury saloons parked around the tents!). The site was overcrowded
(v) The site hire freeze blocks but do not offer facilities to re-freeze your own
We had a good weekend and I am trying to be fair but I would not use this site again. I felt every inch was being milked and very little was being put back - pay a cleaner at least!

Very good site, it was clean tidy and the facilities were clean and tidy, we went with a party of 2 kids, 6 adults and it was great fun. Monkey world was just around the corner and the kids and adults loved it also the tank museum was a good day out. We left early due to the fact the weather was a typical bank holiday, and was scared of getting blown away. The shop was well stocked and good prices, 25pence for a shower for three minutes works well, no waiting for one. There was only one thing that we found to put us of returning was the man and women in the shop were not the most helpful or happiest people in the camp site, the lady seemed to be always stressed and it was like she did not want to be there or us to be there, apart from that great weekend was had by all.

Well this is somewhere we will certainly be going back to. We stayed in the 'Stone Room' as camping at the end of October sounded a little chilly, but my husband and I wanted to take our 4 and a half month old daughter on her first holiday.
The facilities were clean and there was plenty of individual showers and toliets. They have fairly recently upgraded the ladies and it shows - as toilet blocks go, this one is fine.
The showers use tokens which are 25pence each and last for about 3 minutes. My shower was cold for the first 3 mins then I realised I picked the shower at the end of the line and I needed to hold the head of the shower down to 'encourage' warm water! once it was through there was no real problem, so when having a shower there I recommend going to the one closest to the entrance door!
The shop is well stocked and not too expensive, the opening hours are fine for a campsite.
Our stone room was an old pigsty. I know sounds glamourous! But it was exactly right for us, it had a microwave, kettle, oil filled radiator on a timer, tap outside and lighting. It also had a futon sofa bed for me and my husband and we have a travel cot for our daughter. It was well insulated and private, even being right next door to the shop!
At 25 pounds per night it was priced well and we didn't feel like we had overpaid at all.
All in all it is a friendly site, close to some of the most wonderful countryside. It has all the services you would need on a campsite and we will be going back there in the summer with our tent!
