We have visited this park at Salcombe Regis twice now in the low season and find ourselves planning a return visit for 2011. As we get older and less adventurous, we like to go back to the good ones each year. We have been holidaying in this part of Devon for over ten years and found this park by chance in 2009.

We like the location- quiet and well off the main road with easy access onto the hardstanding pitches. We choose to pitch in the meadow as it gives us a sunny open aspect with country views and is more relaxing. The park is tidy and very well maintained.

The wardens are always busy and helpful. We like the fair but firm way that the site rules are implemented. Other visitors were chatty and friendly, this is always a good sign.

There is plenty of space here and the park is well suited to more active people but also relaxing for the not so active. You can leave the car and take wonderful walks to many accessible and interesting places and easily return by bus from the coastal towns nearby. There is a good service from up on the main road with both local and long distance buses. Getting a bus into Exeter is better than driving in to the city. Free- with your Bus Pass!

We don't have a dog but the provision of a good dog walk area with bags and bins well away from the main pitching area is a very welcome asset.

The children's play area is in the centre of the main area and looks to be well situated for watchful parents.

The loo block is somewhat dated by today's standards for a five star park but the water is always hot and showers powerful. It is always kept clean and tidy and the facilities within it are good.

The Reception area is pleasantly light, bright and welcoming with a good waiting / turning area for units. The shop carries basic groceries and essentials and a good selection of tourist info.

We usually avoid parks which have static 'vans as well as touring pitches but here at Salcombe the owners have successfully blended the two and they compliment each other very well.

Quiet, clean site with excellent facilities. Short walk to world famous donkey sanctuary. One mile walk to beach (pebbly). Further mile and a half along SW coastal path to Sidmouth

Small shop on site. No pub or larger shop within walking distance.

Very friendly staff.

18 hole putting green on pitch and reduced prices at local golf club.

Some beautiful walks and cycle rides nearby.

We visit this campsite every year. The staff are always friendly and helpful when booking and when you arrive. The site has a great kids play area for all ages with benches for parents to sit on if you need to supervise.

We have a tent so use the camping field which has a lovely view of the bay if you camp on the right hand side. There is a gated dog walking area.

The toilet blocks are kept clean and there are plenty of them. There is a bathroom available if you need it (need to pay a deposit for a key and then 20p for water). The showers are free and always nice and hot.

You can walk to the donkey sanctuary from the campsite and also down to salcombe Regis bay. Plenty of places to walk without needing the car.

We love it!

Our sixth visit to this campsite, so it must be good! Located 5-10 minute walk to the Donkey Sanctuary. The site as you arrive is very impressive and well kept. There is a large playground area for the kids and the reception area has a small shop which sells everything you should need whilst camping. The toilet block has plenty of showers and I have never had to queue. You do have to pay for the hairdryer which I think was 20p. The staff are all very helpful as are the owners. Most of the pitches has good views and we are looking forward to going back next year.

We have just returned from a weekend of camping at this site.

We did come home a night early but this was purely due to bad weather and a teething baby!

We had our pitches at the far end of the meadow which was lovely as we had loads of space for the kids to play but meant it was a long trek to the loos!

There is only one shower block for the whole site but we never queued to use the facilities. They were always clean.

On arrival we booked in and was shown to our pitch.

The site is located near to Sidmouth but you can see the sea from the site (on every trip to the loos!)

We shall return but probably early on in the season as the nights draw in fairly quickly now!

The play area is in main area of the site and also has a large green area for kids to play. There is also a separate Dog Walking Field.

One Toilet Shower block, which was slap bang next door to the Static and normal caravans, and a good 5 minute walk away from most of the camping. There were other toilets which were actually portaloos in a barn.

On our second evening there my son said he wanted to go for a walk on the beach. After half an hour of walking down a very steep hill we realised we were still a good 20 minutes away still, so we gave up and turned round.

To give it it's due's, it was tidy, and the play park was ok.

It's probably not as bad as I have made out, I just didn't think much of it

This is a very pleasant, well-ordered site. I was a little apprehensive when other reviewers on here wrote that they allocated you a pitch, I do like to choose my own as I like a bit of privacy, but it was not a problem. When I arrived, the very helpful lady in the reception pointed out on their site map where she had put me and asked if that was all right, I was near the dog walk so I said yes. I did see another car being shown to a pitch by the man in the little sort of golf buggy, they looked at the first pitch and moved on, so I assume that if you are not happy with the allocated pitch you can ask to move.

Some other reviewers have said the tent site slopes, well it does a bit, but not really that badly, I certainly had no problem. My only slight negative was that I was MILES from the toilet block. The top end of the campsite – the Meadow, is the furthest point from the toilets so it is a fair hike. The toilets themselves are very clean, but the first ladies area is pretty small and a bit dated. It is adequate and clean, with plenty of toilet paper, soap and towels, but only one shower, which flooded a bit when you used it. After a few days I discovered that if you walked past the laundry you found a whole brand new toilet and shower area with loads of washbasins, toilets, showers, baby changing areas, mirrors etc. It really needs better signposting as I think most campers did not find it.

There is a large dishwashing area with sinks and hot water. All of the facilities seem to be cleaned regularly, I never saw any mess in any of them. The shop sells basics and you can order a newspaper if you want. There is a very pleasant dog walking area and they supply bags and bins, which is a very good idea.

Like most coastal sites it is very windy, but unfortunately mostly there is no sea view, but there is one spot where there is a lovely view, down the valley, over the church and out to sea. That is definitely the best pitch in the entire site, nice view and not too far from the toilets. If I was to return to this site I would ask for that pitch.

The nearest pub was in Sidford about 2 miles away, or Sidmouth, a similar distance. Beware if you are walking that everywhere is down a steep hill, fine until you come to head back! The local Sidmouth Hopper free bus operates in the summer and stops about a mile away. Salcombe Regis itself seems to have no amenities or shop at all, so to buy anything is a bit of a hike. The donkey sanctuary is just down the road, well worth a visit and dogs are allowed.

This was my first time camping and arrived here with my husband two children and other members of the family. I was apprehensive to say the least but was put at ease almost straight away by the sites tidiness and general upkeep. There was a play area for the children which my 4 year old enjoyed and another huge patch of green in the tent field left entirely for children to play freely and safely.

The pitch was of a good size with electric hook up and was situated amidst picnic tables, so was nice for us to sit outside and eat at the table as a family, especially as we had cracking weather!

Overall our stay was great the facilities were very clean if not just a tad outdated, my only criticism would be the trek to the toilet and shower block, it is a shame that for such a big site there is only one block so we had to walk about 3/4 minutes to the toilet. Granted this doesn't sound far but is a walk with children in tow or 3 in the morning!

But in all for my first experience I was pleased and would definitely return again!

Just had a great Bank Holiday weekend at this site. The site is clean, flat, spacious & friendly. There is a wonderful expanse of grass and trees in front of the Reception area for ball games etc. And a playground.

We were fortunate enough to be close to the toilet/shower block but it would be quite a hike for those at the other end of the site. From this point of view the site would benefit from another block, but there were never any queues or lack of hot water and the facilities were kept as clean as is possible.

We were told we could pitch whichever way we liked and found the staff very helpful and accommodating. Our pitch, like most of them was flat, had electric hook-up and a shared water tap.

The dog walk was also kept very clean and the grass cut. Bags and bins are provided and you are free to exercise your dog off the lead in that area.

The rules regarding quiet after 11pm were adhered to by everyone and the site fell quiet each night without complaint.

The surrounding area is lovely, the Donkey Sanctuary is just around the corner - dogs welcome - so close you can hear the donkeys in the mornings. The camp shop sells lovely fresh bread and rolls and all the essentials. Waitrose is the closest supermarket but if, like us, you are on a tight budget it is worth the extra fuel to go to Lidl in Sidmouth only about 5 miles further and whilst there you can enjoy the sea front and town centre.

This site is ideal for families and people who want a quiet relaxing time, there is no swimming pool or clubhouse. We will definitely return.

The notice board that greets you as you enter Salcombe Regis campsite tells you that it is 'The campsite for discerning campers' and as you continue to drive through the gate what greets you certainly supports this statement.

A central tree lined avenue divides the vast and flat (remember this for later) manicured lawns which has a children's play area as well as golf putting greens all surrounded by pristinely maintained hedgerow, colourful boarders and gardens but not a tent in sight. The perimeter of this area is lined with regimental positioned caravans and motor homes and a row of static holiday homes.

The reception area has a small but relatively well stocked shop within to cater for essentials and on checking in we found the staff to be polite but not the most friendly that we have ever met.

We were then escorted to our pitch, along the tree lined avenue and through a gateway into an adjacent field which initially appeared flat but was set out with hard standing for caravans and motor homes and then into the tent area we go and the story changes.

We arrive at our pitch and are told we must pitch to the left of our numbered post and also told that the water pipes amongst the caravan pitches were for our use also (although once the caravans attach their water supply pipes to them it becomes a hunt for for water) then we are left to set up.

We were slightly better off than most we would say, as our pitch was only about a 1 in 8 slope, whereas the lower end of the site was far more like a 1 in 4 and as more tents arrived the place soon started to look more like a housing estate of twisted tents due to the slope and the spacing, at best, between pitches was no more than a few feet, the tent next to us was only about 18' away at best and that's not the guy ropes.

We set up as best we could, cooking was going to be interesting later as the stove just wanted to slide off its table and we moved the bed around so many times to try and stop us from slipping off when asleep.

Ok lets make the best of it now we are here so it's off to freshen up and the only toilet block within the camping field is within a very old and dilapidated barn and 4 plastic portaloos, no thanks! so off again back into the manicured area of the caravans to the only toilet block on the whole site which is in the very far corner.

There is an open fronted pot wash area with 6 sinks within the same building and to either side the ladies and gents bathrooms can be found which are split into 2 sections but no signs telling you this so if you do go to this site walk past the 1st door you come too which only has 2 wc's and 1 shower and you will find a second door to the back of the building where more will be found. The facilities are dated, showers are ok water was always hot which is good but unless you get there early they become very messy and smelly, although a small sign by the door does ask you to call the office when they need to be cleaned!

Evening came the 1st night and even though it clearly states on the booking form no noise after 10.30 it carried on well into the early hours

The site seems more devoted to caravans and us lesser tent people get the not so discerning surroundings tucked out the back on a site that is not advertised anywhere on their website as sloping at all.
