This is a pleasant, large site in a lovely area with few sites to choose from. The one toilet block is clean but cramped, with shower cubicles too small to dress in, and not really adequate for the size of site. Moreover, it's situated illogically on an extreme edge, next to the static units that have their own facilities. We were put a distance we measured to be 300 yards away, but some people with tents and (we hope strong bladders!) were much further away still.
The reception was indeed very friendly, but things rapidly turned sour when we fell foul of the rules. As a staid middle-aged couple who've been camping 30 years, that isn't something we normally experience! We parked exactly in the centre of the pitch we were shown to. The seats of our two-person van face the rear, so we parked in the direction where we would see the view. We were then dumbfounded to be told in no uncertain terms 'That is not an option' (sic!). We must turn the van around 180 degrees so we face directly into the 9 foot hedge. Trying hard to remain civil, we explained this was not acceptable. After some officious discussion with reception we were moved to an other pitch (still further from the facilities!) where we could indulge our 'eccentric' desire to point whichever way we pleased! This took place in April when the site was still mostly empty.

Stayed for a couple of nights here and found it quite a strange campsite. This is not a campsite for people who like to relax! The managers patrol the campsite in golf buggies, waiting to charge extra to anybody that has exceeded the 10am departure time by 1 second, or break any of the many rules enforced by the site. For example, no disposable bbqs allowed (this is so that they can hire out a cheap bbq for 7 pounds in the shop instead!) The general culture of the site seemed to be to squeeze as much money as possible out of every visitor.
Loo facilities are in short supply - it is quite a hike if you are on the camping meadow. Seaviews are not really available in the summer months, due to leaves on the trees, apart from a couple of pitches at the end of the camping meadow.
Despite the above, the area is lovely and the shop on site sells all the basics that you would need. We were after a relaxing weekend, pitched in a field with reasonably nearby facilities and we were disappointed.

March 2005 Spent a couple of nights here over Easter. Really nice site, good size pitches and plenty of space, owners were friendly and informative. Only one toilet / shower block so possibly a bit of a wait in summer, block was clean though with good showers and Radio 2 playing which is a nice touch. Good size dog exercise area, small shop with the basics stocked. Walking is excellent but very hilly, Salcombe Regis is just down the hill and has a very quaint church, you can carry on past the church down to the pebble beach, remember you have to walk back up though !!! Nearest main supermarket is Waitrose on the A3052 above Sidmouth. Thoroughly recommend this site, lovely area and some nice villages and towns to visit like Beer, Sidmouth and the Seaton tram line is worth a go.

June 2004 A very friendly and clean site. Toilets/showers were spotless. Nice little shop that sells the essentials--bread, milk, and wine!
Lovely walks from the site, beautiful area. We were very impressed and would definately visit again-soon I hope. 10 out of 10!
