Summer 2003 We spent a week here and booked another week for 2004 while we were there.
This is a lovely site near Woolacombe with its excellent beach.
The road in is very narrow so car is needed to avoid damage.
The site is hilly so wheel chocks and spacers for the steadies are a must.
The views of Lundy are nice.
Mortehoe is a nice village with a few shops and eating places.
Not all pitches have electric hookup so early booking is essential.

June 2003 Cracking site, cracking views, cracking cider at the shop!
Spent 2 days here and loved it! The fish van coming around at evening time is a great bonus. No tacky clubhouse - just great views, excellent facilities, lots of room and all at a bargain price.
The Smugglers Rest Inn, (closest pub I think), is also good with nice wholesome menus and a quality pool table!!! Will be back next year.

June 2003 This is one of the best sites we have used. We have been staying at North Morte now for 20 years and we look forward every year. There is always something new in the area to explore.
The site is spotless and the owners very friendly. Most pitches in the camping area have a beautiful sea view. The facilities are very good.
If you want bars swimming pools etc.this is not the site for you.If you want quiet, lovely scenery this is the one. Mo and ivor and sadie the dog.

June 2003 I can't agree more with the above comments. It's a beautiful site. It is steep but that's what happens if you want views this beautiful near the sea. The toilet blocks are the cleanest I've seen and the shop sells everything you need. It's great having what feels like your own little beach so near (but very steep!). I can't recommend this place enough if you don't want a noisy entertainment type campsite, but do want a couple of nice pubs, chip shop and deli within 10 minutes and you want to open your tent flap in the morning and see the sea. It is also possible to walk to Woollacombe but I might not say that if I had three kids and all the stuff that goes with them!

August 2003 An excellent site, situated in the wonderful village of Mortehoe. The campsite is large and spacious with a well stocked shop and fantastic sea views, looking out over the cliffs...fantastic with a glass of wine and the kids all tucked up in bed - exhausted from the sea air.
Body boarding on Woolacombe beach is a must. As for food, in the village of Mortehoe there is a great Fish and Chips shop and the 'Chichester Arms' pub does great food - try the sea bass.
A great site in a great spot - we'll be back.

July 2003 Just got back from a week here, chosen after reading positive reviews. Agree whole-heartedly with all the positive comments above, but campers do need to be aware of a few things. 1. While they say you never need to book to camp, the "site full" signs went up about 9pm Friday (with the promise of a scorching weekend, even before peak season). 2. The beauty of the site is undeniable, but it is tricky finding a level pitch, which can cause some difficulties, especially with bigger tents. 3. The "informal" nature of the pitches (i.e. a free-for-all!), where you can have people pitching very close at busy periods, may not be to everyone's taste.

May 2003 We went to this site during Witsun holiday. Me, hubby and 2 children aged 3 and 5. This is a very clean and well maintained site. Showers open at 7 am in the morning and shut at 9pm. They were always clean and plenty of hot water. Big bulter style sink with shower attachment to wash kids down in if like mine they are not to keen on 'big' showers. Plenty of toilets. Only had to queue once for shower and that was on a really hot day when everybody had obviously just come off the beach. There is a small shop and everything was reasonably priced and 2 play areas for the children. The owner regularly cleans, cuts the grass and empties the bins. There were no overflowing smelly bins surrounded by wasps on this site.
The best part was the amount of space. Camping is just on a 'where you like basis' in about 3 big fields with great views over the sea and good walks. Even though it was whitsun we still had loads of space. Would definately go back.
There is no club or pool but it was only a short walk down to the village of Morthoe for good food and a pint.

jun/jul 03 Endorse other reviews except for booking aspect. Touring Site with hook up and level area was full when we arrived even though this was term time and a weekday. however the staff contacted the helpful site owner who actually went out and checked the site and found a vacant plot. So pleased, as it is a lovely site. The tent campers have the winning ticket here as the fields are huge with sea views and lots of space. the area is lovely. I would go again but would just check availability if you want a hook up as it seems very popular.

July 2002 A superb stay on this wonderful site. Views are breathtaking. The site is a bit hilly but this adds to the charm and stops it feeling too regimented. Beach at Rockham is a 10-15 walk and Woolacombe a 10 minute drive. The pretty village of Morte complete with pubs, restaurants and a chip shop is a 5 minutes walk
Facilities are spotlessly clean and plentiful - never a queue for a shower and always loads of hot water - although can be a bit of a walk. Site is kept immaculately by the owner who was regularly seen mowing lawns and cleaning the loos!
If you want nightclubs, pools, noise and crowds stay away. If you want peace and quiet with loads of space for the kids but still close to all the beaches then this site is for you.
We'll be back in Septemmber 2003

A campsite with good views and good facilities.
This is one campsite you never need to book if you are camping because there is always room and you never feel crowded.
The site is made up of a series of "fields" sloping down towards the sea (yes you do feel like a mountain goat by the end of a week stay here) however the touring pitches are nearer to the toilet/shower block and are on level ground.
The toilet/shower block is new (about 3 years old) with free hot showers, baby changing area and a large sink to hose any kids off in. There is also a washing-up area again with free hot water and usually a queue after mealtimes.
The site also has a small shop by the reception for your bread/milk/scrumpy/wine, a laundrette and a small tourist information centre.
The site itself is on the Tarka trail if you are feeling energetic or you can just walk down the fields to Rockham bay and paddle in the sea.
This is one site I've been to a few times and never tire of.
