If you like camping on the cliff edge, this is the place for you, though don't take a shower when busy as you'll only get a trickle of water to wash with!
The good side to this campsite is that you can walk to the village and choose from 3 pubs to eat and drink in. In addition, the two children's play areas were good and you can walk to the private beach, although be it a very steep walk back!
Overall, not a campsite I would necessarily pick again to visit though I know hubby would (and not just for the pubs!).

The non-EHU camping area is large and mostly sloping with fantastic sea views and generally always windy, it can also be quite a long walk to the loo and shower block – quite a few people seemed to drive there! Just 2 water taps in that large area too (that I found). Quite a lot of showers and loos but I can see that there could be queues at peak times.
Fantastic coastal walks from the site to Lee Bay and round Morte Point and there is access down a fairly steep hill to a beach too. Site shop is well stocked and has Wi-Fi; Mortehoe village has good small shop(s) and pubs plus café for afternoon tea. Otherwise Woolacombe has a supermarket and Ilfracombe even more shops including a nice bakers and butchers.
They have rules limiting the size of parties and the distance between tents so it was just my luck to find the perfect spot and then get noisy neighbours pitching nearby but that can happen anywhere. In an area with a lot of campsites so competitively priced and overall highly recommended.

Really mixed review of this site!
UPSIDE: This is probably one of the most beautiful campsites we've ever stayed at - the views and location are spectacular - sunsets were fabulous!
There is a well stocked shop with friendly & helpful staff, plenty of showers / toilets which were (for the most part) spotlessly clean and also a couple of great play areas for the kids.
DOWNSIDE: The site, being very undulating and on a steep slope is not great for large tents - definitely more suited for 2/3 berth tents.
Had we have seen (before we'd paid up) how sloped it really was, how busy it already was and the serious lack of space for us to fit our tent in, we would most likely have gone elsewhere.
The owners seemed more interested in cramming people in & earning a few extra quid, than letting those campers already there enjoy a little space. We counted 12 tents within a 10 metre radius - which made for noisy days & really noisy nights - the bloke snoring all night in the tent next to us didn't seem bothered tho!
The slope of the site and the cramped pitches ended up in us leaving after 4 days when we had planned on staying for a week.
We have now learnt not to pay at a new site without checking it out first - internet pics can be misleading!
All in all, if this site didn't cram in so many people, it would be near to perfect as it gets!

We stumbled upon this campsite when touring Devon and Cornwall recently. As it can be quieter in September we hadn't booked anywhere, and we had no problems getting on this site late afternoon on a Monday.
The site gets a fair bit of wind but it is located close to the cliffs and the shoreline, and there are a few different fields for campers depending on whether they need a hook-up or not. As we needed a hook-up we were in the field behind a bit of a hill. A little sheltered from the elements, but it also meant less of a sea view. The tents and vans that are in the top field get the best views.
The facilities were excellent. Very clean and tidy, and hardly anyone using them while we were there as it was so quiet.
There's a playground on site and a shop by the main entrance. The shop had cooking oil, which we forgot to pack, and was open 'til 7pm so that's an extra bonus point!
All in all, a pleasant, quiet stay by the coast. And there are plenty of paths to walk along the coastline too!

I have camped here and stayed in a static and could recommend both heartily. The static we hired was clean and comfortable if not a little dated, but very reasonably priced for the area. The site is clean, tidy and in a beautiful area. But best of all it is chav free!
The only downside to our trip was the two nights we decided to dress up and take our 4 year old to the pub for tea. The Ship Aground was overpriced but the food was passable. The Chichester on the other hand was one of the worst meals I have ever tasted. I ordered an Aberdeen angus burger on a wholemeal bun and what was served was the cheapest nastiest frozen burger I have ever tasted and all for £9 BARGAIN.

If you are looking for a family campsite or a campsite for a couple then I can highly recommend North Morte Farm Caravan and Camping Park. I am having this review squeezed out of me because this is the campsite where I spend my yearly holiday with my partner whom has been returning to the North Devon coast for 10+ years. We have always been worried about whether or not reviewing the campsite will ruin its attraction because of increased visitor numbers etc, but after deliberation and reading a few newspapers quoting North Morte as one of the best sites in Britain we feel although advertising is already at its peak! Additionally the site has strict rules (which will be discussed) and has coped so far with the larger visitor numbers.
North Morte Farm is a family run caravan park, connected to National Trust land and coastline which boasts the fantastic Rockham Beach amongst some of the most spectacular countryside in the South West. The North Devon coastline is so beautiful, a real spectacle resembling what you might expect to see off the coast of Southern France. We have been out on a walk more than a few times and thought to ourselves how silly we are that we pay for expensive flights to go and see these views abroad when actually they are right on our doorstep. There are other wonderful beaches along the coast as well including the famous Woolacombe Sands; 2 miles of golden sands famed for its surfing and watersports. From the site is direct access to the South West coast path and Morthoe village is a 5 minute walk away with some great pubs, shops, a Post Office and restaurants. So now you have an overview of the campsite I will expand on a few key areas that I as a camper would be particularly interested in.
As stated in the introduction North Morte Farm is situated on the North Devon coast between Woolacombe and Ilfracombe with the minor quaint villiages of Croyde and Lee located nearby, both definitely worth a look. The location is easily accessible via the A361 which adjoins the M5 for those from the North whilst the most direct route from the East is via the A303. The exact location including postal address can be found here.
Every time we have been camping at North Morte Farm the cost has been broken down as £7.35 per person per night with children prices being £3.00 per night. You pay an additional fee of £1.50 per night for a dog. These are peak season prices and although camping in the off season is possible, I have never tried and I imagine that being near the coast the weather could have a dramatic effect on your trip! A full price list for those that are interested can be found here.
No advanced bookings are on offer here I am afraid and so you may turn up and be turned away. However this can play in your favour because you can turn up and choose your own pitch; close to the toilet block, close to the shop, sheltered behind a bush etc. There is also a modern toilet block with fresh hot showers (for free!) but make sure you get in early after the 7:30am opening to get the best of the available hot water. I believe that by next season a new shower system will be installed as the hot water does run out very quickly! There are hairdryers available, a dish washing area, a shop with all essential camping supplies, a launderette with ironing facilities, gas exchange, children's play area, reception with local information, recycling centre and payphones.
I believe that it is the rules and regulations at North Morte that set it apart from other campsites. I have never had to complain about anything and neither has my partner (who has been holidaying there for 10+ years). I will not quote all the regulations but I recommend you have a look here before you leave. The main rules include not being able to book a pitch, no more than 3 couples in a group and no more than 3 same sex individuals in a group, no unaccompanied under 18s, specified book in times and no pitching after 10.30pm, respecting other campers, a speed limit of 5mph on site and a minimum booking of 2 nights over weekends.
If you love being by the coast with fantastic scenery and doing outdoor activities then North Morte is the place to be. I would be very surprised if you find better. Normally there is a lot of sunshine over the Summer months; I always comes back with a tan! There is a lot to do in the local area including fishing, golf, hiking, walking, cycling, swimming, beaches, surfing and other watersports, horseriding and boating. This means there is plenty to keep the kids occupied off site but with the children's play area there is also enough to keep them occupied on-site. Surrounding villiages make the perfect days out and include Clovelly, Lynton and Lynmouth, Arlington Court, and many attractions such as Combe Martin Wildlife Park, Watermouth Castle and Dartington Crystal. Also take a boat ride to Lundy Island from nearby Ilfracombe or visit Exmoor National Park. All this information is available on arrival at Reception so you will never be short of something to do!

We've been back to this site year after year. It is quite simply the best campsite we have ever found in this part of the world. The camping feilds are sloping but we have always found a flattish, suitable pitch. The site is quiet, with no roads or noise nearby. The view is absolutely stunning, looking out to the sea. The shower blocks and toilets are always clean and tidy, with loads available. Rockham Beach is secluded and never busy although there is a bit of a steep walk to get down to it. The site can be windy (and it can be very windy) but then it is at the top of a cliff so you should expect this anyway. Nearby the local village is within walking / cycling distance and is quaint and pretty with a pub, shop, post office, tea rooms and a fish and chip shop. A little further along the coast is Woolacombe for everything else you might need.

This is our second time visiting this site and both times we have enjoyed our stay. The site has beautiful scenic views from most areas of the campsite. We brought our tent Sprayway valley 8 with this campsite in mind as it has many large windows. Even when it was raining it as a pleasure sitting inside dry watching the world go by at our own relaxed pace.
I would agree to all positive comments below regarding this site and will return here for many years to come with my young family.

We were a little anxious about arriving at this site as you could not pre - book your pitch and sounded like a bit of a free for all. We arrived late morning on a Thursday and there was plenty of space. The campsite is large and has a mix of very exposed areas and sheltered areas, all with fantastic sea views. We started off toward the top of the site but it was way too windy so had to find a better area with more shelter. By the end of our stay the site was very full, mostly with large family size tents. The shower block was quite basic, and on first look seemed quite big, but by the time saturday evening arrived, there was a queue around 8 people long for the showers. This is probably due to the fact that there is only one block serving a very large site. However, they were always clean. The wash up area was not really adequate to cope with large numbers of family sized groups.
The Site shop was very well stocked.
The location of the campsite was pretty good, a 10min walk away from the village with some good places to eat, though a bit pricey. The bus stop was just outside the road to the site which made it easier to get to certain places on the coast path to walk back to the site. The coast path walk down to Woolacombe had stunning views.
Overall a nice site, which we would visit again.

Really hilly site but we were only staying for a night so found a sloping pitch!
Clean loos and hot showers, fantastic views to the sea and a lovely (steep and with some steps) walk down to a quiet little beach. Also an easy walk into Morthoe to the pubs or into Woolacombe for a bit more liveliness!
Shop on site seemed a little bare, could have made more of that but did sell fresh coffee which was a nice treat!
Play area for children too (we didn't have any with us) Staff all seemed friendly and was well priced as well.
