We stayed at the site based on a good brochure and positive reviews. To be honest on arrival we were very happy with what we found, well maintained pitch borders which give the impression of several smaller sites, large pitches. Clean toilet blocks and good facilities. There is a good local pub, and a market at the weekends is just opposite the site entrance.

It is quiet and relaxed - exactly what we were hoping for in a week away from the rat race.

Having had rain on day one, I spent most of the night re directing water away from the tent. Day two involved moving the tent, day three meant returning to find my pitch and tent underwater! Overall result was that we had to leave after 3 days instead of 6, then spent the remainder of my holiday at home cleaning and drying ruined kit and clothes.

A good clean site with lots to visit locally

What a lovely peaceful family site. We stayed here for 8 nights along with 6 other families and had a lovely time. The site is kept extremely clean, the pools are super and kids used them come rain or shine, not at all cold we even ventured into them! There are no strict rules to follow and everyone is very relaxed about the children doing their own thing. This doesn't mean that there were children running around out of control.

Toilets and showers are kept very clean and showers a lovely and hot. There is everything on site you could possibly need apart from a rowdy club which we wouldn't want. The building work on the beach can be a bit of a shock when you first see it but don't let it put you off as once on the beach its absolutely fine, all the children loved that beach as opposed to the others we visited.

Porthpean is a lovely cove and beach and is only a couple of miles away, definitely worth a visit. In Charlestown the fish restaurant 'Wreckers' is lovely and served up fantastic food to 12 of us but you need to book. Would definitely recommend this site, its so peaceful, no early morning noise, didn't hear anything before 8 - 8:30am. 5* and would return.

Found the campsite very pleasing very clean and well maintained. Swimming pools lovely with one heated. Laundry facilities good and reasonably priced £3 to wash £1.50 for 30mins to dry. Large pitches not cramped. Enough to keep young children amused crazy golf, play park, and pool. The only downside is the site which is very flat and is prone to flooding in severe rainfall but it drains just as quickly as it happens. Overall I would definitely visit the site again as the positives out weigh the only negative.

One of the first sites we have ever used and will probably be one of the best we ever visit

Friendly and helpful staff. Small shop and cafe. Large landscaped pitches in very pretty setting. Convenient for seeing the area - we used cycles. Site staff provided directions by cycle, together with small map, to the quiet entrance of the Eden Project, about 2-3 miles away. Chanced on the RNLI songs of praise service by chance in nearby Charlestown where we had excellent seafood at Wreckers

Shower and loo block immaculate and showers free

Swimming pools heated and very pleasant

In summary a quality site run very well to give a relaxing stay.

Friendly helpful staff when we arrived, spacious pitches, (ours was pretty level), set out into small areas which makes the large site feel small and friendly. Plenty of things to do on site, our 2 year old loved the boat play area. Toilet blocks were kept clean with plenty of hot water for the excellent free showers. Took 15 mins to walk to beach, quite shingly rather than sandy!

Fantastic site! The staff made us feel very welcome and couldn't be more helpful. It was very quiet as it was so early in the year, but we can imagine that this campsite will secure you a nice summer holiday when the swimming pool is open. There was enough to do for the kids (ours is only 3, but he loved the pirate ship and castle, - not to mention the crazy golf!

It was great to be able to walk to the beach (don't let you put off by the building works on the beach - pass that and you only see the lovely bay and water) A nice walk along the cliffsides bring you to neighbouring towns or walk to the Eden Project.

This was our first Cornwall holiday and we were pleasantly surprised about the lovely beaches, towns and lovely people - we had a great time (despite cold and windy weather)

Thanks for making us feel so welcome!

An absolutely beautiful site. Lots of amenities including a clean swimming pool, a cafe, a covered area with tables, table tennis and pool table. The shower and toilet facilities were very clean and again very nicely decorate. Showers were warm too with not too many queues.

Entertainment provided in some evenings finishing at around 10.30pm so not too late, you can choose a spot away from this if you want to get away from the noise.

We arrived after 8.30pm and stayed only overnight and the reception staff gave us a discount for arriving late. The owners were very friendly, and we'd definitely stay here again if we were in the area. Prices for the standard of the site are very reasonable.

Certainly the most pleasant campsites that we received during our tour of the British Isles.

Conveniently located and quiet, to visit Cornwall, the site offers generous spaces, demarcated and provided with electricity standards (taken blue).

The home is enhanced by professional courtesy and kindness of the people involved.

The cleanliness is exemplary in washrooms and toilets. All provisions are present to drain.

The icing on the cake: lovely cafeteria offering dishes to take away or eat on site, also a very large swimming pool where everyone will find happiness.

Although little affected by this détai, there are spaces reserved for children with original games.

I highly recommend this site. :-)

Stayed at this site July/aug for 2 weeks.

We had a very nice pitch in almost like a cul-de-sac area. Flat ground and large pitches. A very large site, but it didn't feel like it for us because of where we were. However if we had been in some other areas it may have felt a bit cramped. We had a lot of rain, and there were some tents and vans that were a bit water logged to say the least, however the staff where fantastic and really on top of it, sorting boggy areas, arranging other parking to stop it getting too muddy.

There is a pool which is good, I recommend taking a brollie though as no shade when its hot.

Games room. Shops selling all sorts. Entertainment most nights. Food is served, but did have strange opening hours.

Excellent shower block with dryers in, but did have to queue a few times.

Stacks to see and do in the area, about 15 mins from Eden Project.

A good site all round.

We stayed at this camp site from 27th June to 4th July and can honestly say it is the best site we have ever stayed on!

Extremely friendly family run campsite. Upon arriving into reception a very warm welcome and greeting. We were given full directions as to our pitch, facilities and all information. The brochure and pictures on the internet do this site justice, they are exactly as shown. Excellently kept grounds and the cleanest toilet/shower blocks we have ever used and kept spotlessly clean by the owners throughout our stay- they are to be commended on this!

The pitch sizes are fantastic- we pitched our 8 man tent, gazebo, windbreak to enclose our cooker unit, bbq and all in one table & chairs , car parked beside and still there was room for more!

They had recycling facilities so thumbs up for that and the rubbish is cleared everyday, pool covered at night and a joy to use in the daytime as lovely and warm with the larger pool having a 'soft bottom' ground making it safe to use with children.

We were in awe of seeing two deer come out from the forest and run about the fields on our first day, and also a hawk circling high above the trees where we were pitched- wow, a first for us. Also each morning/ evening/night seeing the hundreds of bunnies quietly feeding on the fresh grass.Nature at it's best!

What's also nice is that you are left to enjoy your holiday knowing that if you need anything you only need to ask. We found the peace & tranquility especially during the evening/ night made for a perfect stress-free holiday. Other campers felt the same way and were extremly friendly and all commented on the site friendliness and cleanliness and said would definitely recommend Carlyon Bay to others.

Being a week's holiday we ventured out most days so cannot comment on the shop or onsite cafe. One critisism would be that we found the opening hours too few- possibly as it was not the peak season? But having a 24hour Tesco's about 2 miles away and an Asda's a few miles further up the road solved that problem. Great prices, bbq foods and offers on the alcohol.Just down from the site at end of Cypress avenue is the Cornish Market World a great attaction. The sad thing is the market is only open at weekends, so do pay a visit if staying there.Such a huge market with an abundance of stalls & goods ( from bakers to butchers, household items to beds! )

The nearby beach is beautiful, but as mentioned by other users a bit much to climb the stairs after a day spent on the beach. However approx 5 miles away by car is Par beach with a huge sandy bay, caves and sand dunes. You pay a fee to park but it's well worth it as kept spotlessly clean. They do provide toilets but they are a little walk away from the car park and have a nearby small shop selling drinks/food/gifts etc.

Carlyon bay is a great place to tour from as it is not too far to the near attractions. We visited Mevagissey, Charlestown ( had the most wonderful seafood pancake here. Cod/salmon/prawns/mackeral & optional mussels-definitely recommend for seafood lovers, just overlooking the harbour at the Pier House Hotel) Fowey,St.Mawes (where we took the ferry to Falmouth) and also Padstow. Definitely recommend a visit to Rick Stein's take away which is situated just by the harbour car park. I had cod & chips, my husband monk fish & chips which were served with a slice of fresh lemon, Rick's own recipe tartare sauce- wow,too good to put into words- please try and see ! Can honestly say they were superb and as we said not everyday get to eat food from a famous TV chef's Fish & chip shop!

We obviously have our favourites but can honestly say once visited you cannot forget South Cornwall.

Having read a few of the earlier reviews can say that whilst there we had very, very heavy rain overnight. On Thursday we woke to thunder & lightning and it more or less rained all day. We did end up with a few puddles on our pitch in Duporth field, but when I mentioned to the site these were quickly seen to by them and advised to notify if get any worse - luckily did not have to. They have stone road ways to each pitch and we never saw any muddy paths or roads. Even with torrential rain the facilities were kept spotlessly clean.

Upon ending I would like to extend a warm 'thankyou' to the Taylor family. We will most definitely be returning to this campsite in the future. Hoping to visit the nearby Eden Project and more of the attractions Cornwall has to offer!
