Just got back from a fab week at Carlyon Bay. Lovely site, easy to find and with the biggest pitch I have ever seen (Duporth).
First real camping holiday (am a serial weekend camper but first 7 night escapade) with 10 year old daughter and 21 year old son.
Hardly saw the eldest as excellent transport links so he did his own thing. Daughter loved playing in the pool (outdoor) every day (even in the rain!).
Lovely toilet and shower blocks which were nice and clean despite some peoples lack of use of bins for used paper towels. Best showers and toilets are the ones next to the main reception.
Only downside is that the hot water to the wash up areas is diverted to the showers so if you want to wash pots you need to wait til peak shower time is finished.
All in all a great site, plenty of space, safe for children to play without worry wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others.

In spite of turning up in torrential rain, we received a very warm welcome. Throughout our stay the staff could not have been more helpful, whether we wanted directions to cycle to the Eden Project (well worth a visit & discounts offered for walkers & cyclists), ideas for places to eat, train times to Truro or a recommendation for a local hairdresser!
The site is divided into sections - we were allocated one of the largest pitches we've seen, in Crinnis. We were surrounded by other child-free units, which suited us just fine.
The showers were spacious, clean and warm, sometimes too warm and with no way of changing the temperature. We tried out most of the other facilities - laundry, table tennis (new bats required!), pool table, cafe (only open at weekends when we were there - breakfasts highly recommended), crazy golf and swimming pool.
There are CCTV cameras poolside which are viewed from reception, but no lifeguard. I was concerned to see a lone child repeatedly diving into the pool when I was in there. Where were the parents??
Incidentally, I believe Kidzworld was about to re-open when we left in the middle of the month

Just returned from a weeks camping at Carlyon Bay and to say we enjoyed it would be a gross understatement. This was our first longer duration camping trip as we have normally only been away at weekends.
The campsite is so well run, and very well kept.
The toilet and shower facilities are spoltless ALL the time. Plenty of facilities on site laundry, tv room, pool etc etc so enough to keep you occupied even on the quietest of nights.
Strict rule of no noise after 10. 30 was adhered to which is a first for us.
We visited a couple of weeks before their 'high' season so the site was relatively quiet anyway, but it just made the whole trip so much more enjoyable.
The staff are very friendly and helpful especially if you are looking for inspiration for days outs and the local bus times etc.
Cafe/take away on site - excellent friendly service, good value and good food.
Shop on site very well stocked and about average prices for most things.
Would we return - most definitely, especially at this time of year as it was so quiet. We had the great weather to help things along only the last day did we see rain and we got drenched putting the tent away, but didn't ruin our experience.
My only negative (and it is understandable given it is not their high season) is that the shop and cafe need to be open longer hours.

We stayed at Carlyon Bay in the first week of july 2011 with our hired 27ft kontiki motorhome. And boy are we glad we did. Fab site and a massive pitch right next to a golf course and large fields for walking the dog.
A really fab site with lots to do and a very friendly welcoming family who run the site. The heated outdoor pool was lovely and warm and generally all facilities were good.
A well stocked shop on site and walking distance to a nearby Tesco and a direct bus to Asda.
A very worthwhile walk, about 20-30minutes takes you right into the eden project, check the eden web-site for large discounts and cyclists and walkers get about £20 of a family ticket, make sure you get the donation ticket as you can visit each day you are in the area for a year.
A very good mix of tent pitches, very big, caravan pitches and large mobile home pitches, excellent room. We would highly recommend a walk to the nearby golf course, great views, great food and non members and dogs very welcome.
Lovely coastal walks to charlestown, some fab pubs to eat and drink in. Overall a lovely caravan park, good facilities and well maintained.
We will hopefully be back in the years ahead. Send and e-mail if you wish any further information about the site as we stayed there for a week.

We visited this site for a week. The site is clean and beautifully presented. The facilities cannot be faulted, I have never seen such opulence in a camp site shower block before.
There is plenty to do for all, children have a play area which is well equipped and a crazy golf course is included at no charge for clubs and golf balls.
The central area has a patio with washing facilities, television room, snack bar, table tennis and pool table, next to this is a well kept small swimming pool.
The staff are especially friendly and helpful. I would be proud of this site if it were mine.

We visited Carlyon Bay the first week of the school holidays so it was main season but still not over full or cramped.
We received a very warm welcome, were directed to our pitch and facilities explained. Our pitch(admittedly a super fully serviced one) was huge! but all pitches seem to be a good size.
What was nice was we were told we could site the caravan exactly how we wanted as long as we stayed within the pitch markings, so some people turned the units at 90degrees so that their awning was facing a privacy border, and others we noticed who were probably together, placed their units at a jaunty 45 degree angle on their pitches. All pitches were flat.
Location of the site was good for area. We travelled all over Cornwall including St. Ives and Landsend allthough did make a day of it! The local beach is quiet and a 10-15 walk away - you do need to overlook the unsightly buildings to reach it but its worth it - even if only for an evening walk as we did.
Shower/toilet facilities were excellent and always beautifully clean. Three separate blocks each with several showers in, so we never had to queue. Hot and although push button type, they were powerful too.
Plenty of wash-up areas, but this was our only gripe of the whole site - that there wasn't adequate hot water here, particularly in the mornings, when we can only assume the hot water was being used up by the showers. (as they were next to them)
The pool was lovely, warm and well maintained. Games area good. Cannot comment on launderette as we didn't use, nor the food, but this did seem popular. There is a field area for football/ball games etc. Away from pitches which was good, together with a grass tennis court.
Excellent stocked shop and not over priced.
Main season they have evening entertainment on some evenings - the live band on the Sunday night we though were fabulous.
Overall, an excellent well maintained site with helpful staff. We would definitely recommend and would revisit if in the area.

Just returned back from this camp site and my only negative comment would be the showers blocks could do with some doors on the main entrance points, it gets a bit cold for the little ones.
Also its an impossible task to get dressed within your shower cubicle without getting your clean clothes wet, take a robe it makes life a little bit easier.
The kids pool was shut all weekend due to maintenance works, however the adult pool was available as an alternative. Very close to Kidzworld but this is still closed awaiting an insurance payout due to being flooded sometime ago, check the web site for updates if you plan a visit.
The camp site in general is very well laid out and my pitch BU 20 gave me 220m2 approx with its own water tap & Hook-up and a kids play area within 20ft.
I got to say this is the best pitch I have ever stayed on, in the early morning the Rabbits come out of the woods and the Kids loved it, sounds silly I know but they seem used to the guests and come so close.
Overall an excellent base and the site seems to attract the same people over & over again. If things changed around the area over the next few months I would most certainly go back.
Charlestown only a stone throw away and well worth a visit, Eden Park about 4 miles drive and also a lovely place, however be prepared for a £20 Adult & £7.50 child entrance fee, also with your meal another £30 for a family of four not short of a £100 trip.

Absolutely lovely site. We arrived to glorious sunshine the day before the 24hr downpour that swept the UK. Puddles everywhere but drained away very quickly. Followed by 9 days sunshine (so lucky).
We went to the Cornish Market for a mooch. Brilliant if its raining! Site owners fabulous, very helpful and friendly with all enquiries. Shop on site well stocked and very reasonably priced.
Pitches were huge! We have an Outwell Nebraska plus porch, van and trailer and there was still loads of room (Crinnis). Pitches excellently maintained and we weren't under pressure to be off by 11am the last morning (although that may be because it was 3rd September).
Toilet blocks well maintained, showers hot and always plenty of loo roll etc. Swimming pools nice. Play areas a plenty throughout the site. Good laundry room - big load washers that actually work! Only complaint was that it was not lit at night with the exception of the road ends. Perhaps some dim solars to help us find the tent?!
Beautiful beach minutes walk away - deserted but fab, sea clean. Great coastal walks to Charlestown but to Par sands a bit hairy if you have kids! Fantastic meal at the Britannia Inn at the end of the road (towards Par) - they couldn't do enough for us.
Easy reach of everywhere, we biked to Eden (uphill but not a killer) and visited all over. Lovely place, lovely people. Would definitely visit here again.

This the best campsite we (2 adults,1 child [9] and 2 dogs) have visited.
We picked probably the worst week weatherwise and could have been a disaster if the campsite was not as good as this one.
2' of rain fell in one night and the ground was still solid in the morning and our tent stayed dry.
The toilet / shower blocks are immaculate and far cleaner than some hotels or B&B's we've stayed in.
Every member of staff we met, from cleaner to owner, was friendly and courteous and answered our every question fully.
The pitches were very spacious - I haven't seen larger - and very well maintained.
The entertainment was fun and light-hearted (I can now twiddle a toothbrush round my finger)and just enough for us as we don't go in for the Hi-De-Hi stuff. This can all be enjoyed while drinking/eating your own locally purchased food & drink. So no over-priced bar to argue with.
The on-site shop was well stocked and very reasonably priced on every count.
The only thing I would echo from other reviews is that the 3 perfectly adequate pools could do with some form of lifeguard or authority figure, to assist with enforcing some safety rules, to allow enjoyment of the pool by everyone as some people do go 'over the top' (mostly adults I noticed).
All in all, an excellent site with friendly hard-working staff, very good value for money for a family, and we'll definitely be making another visit.

We have just returned from a stay here, and I have to say that despite the English weather we have all really enjoyed our visit.
There are facilities that will suit most, I have a 13 year old lad and an 11 year old girl and both were happy with the site facilities.
There was entertainment in the courtyard that seemed varied and will suit most tastes. The pitches were of a really good size although it seemed that some were bigger than others so make sure that you specify the size of your tent or caravan. We would have struggled to get our side canopy on with our tent on the pitch we were allocated.
The ease of all amenities was a real bonus.
However all in all a fantastic site and mine are all definitely planning to make a return visit, so watch out Carlyon Bay here we come, again.
