Chose Carlyon Bay based on reviews from here, their brochure and 5* rating.
Site easy to find and located in a lovely setting. Site is very nice to look at.
We were greeted with a warm and friendly welcome from the man in reception, he gave us good directions to our pitch.
Pitches are large and clearly marked.
Good facilities for children, crazy golf, playgrounds, pool table and table tennis.
I have to say though that it was stated the pool was heated, I took my 3year old in and it was unbearably cold! I could only stay in 10 mins with her as her lips started to go blue. We didn't go to the pool again which was a shame.
Showers and toilets clean, always enough toilet roll! We never had to queue for showers as experienced with other campsites. The only negative with the showers is that they were too hot! Too hot for me and was not able to shower my 3yr old as it was burning her.
The takeaway on site was handy.
Well stocked shop on site.
We had heavy rain all day one day which resulted in a lot of water and squelching mud underneath the groundsheet. The pitch did not drain quick enough.
We left a day early as just too much water on pitch unfortunately.
Good local facilities, beach not very nice and full of sand flies. But we only visited that beach, I'm sure there are nicer beaches further away.

This site is excellent for the beach, walks, and nearby attractions Lost gardens of Helegan, Mevagissy, Padstow 25 mins away,Polpero, Fowey all within 15 miles and all worth a visit but the site itself is very generous with the size of the pitches we stayed on G8 and are the biggest we have stayed on and the staff were Friendly and helpful and the whole site was kept very clean and tidy, with entertainment on most nights where you can take your own drink and enjoy the night, the toilets and shower blocks was kept very clean and with plenty of hot water all free. The beach we thought was very good if you make sure you have your back to the awful fencing that protects the run down buildings and make sure you look out to the sea and not behind you, the beach is not that bad and is not over crowded, one of the best sites I have been on in 20 years well done to all at Carylon Bay just a pity the weather was not as good.

We stayed at this site the 1st week in August and having had a long and stressful 8 hour car journey we were greeted by a friendly member of staff who quickly explained locations of things on the site and directed us to our pitch.
The pitch sizes are generous. We had a 10 man tent, porch, windbreak and still had space for the car.
The site shop was brilliant, a real gem. Open from 8 in the morning till 8 in the evening and sold everything you need at very reasonable prices, Hovis bread was cheaper than Tescos.
The facilities are some of the best I have seen, free hot showers in a choice of 3 blocks depending on where your pitch is.
The site is very geared towards children having numerous play areas and free crazy golf.
The undercover courtyard area houses the table tennis and snooker tables with a tv room and 'launderette.'
On some evenings while we were there the site put on entertainment in the courtyard. It ranged from a children's disco to an all male voice choir which was brilliant!
For dog lovers there is a big field attached to the camp for walks, the lovely beach at St Austell also allows dogs all year too!
Definitely recommend this site, great location and efficiently ran, very friendly and helpful staff, booked again while we were there for 2 weeks next year, with the dog this time.

This is a holiday site aimed at families and as such fits the bill. There are three different play areas fo the kids along with some excellent swimming pool facilities. However, even though there are signs saying no diving, no floats and no unaccompanied children, this hppened regularly. We would recommend that the site re-task one of their many excellent staff as a pool attendant/life guard.
The pitches are very, very generous (the largest we have seen) and are clearly marked, leaving no worries about overcrowding. They are level and flat, with the grass regularly cut and very well maintained. The small amount of rain we had whilst there seemed to dran very well. The three facilities blocks are spotless and tiled in marble etc, though there were regularly queues for showers and washing up (only 5 sinks). As the site is quite large there was a long walk from some corners and they could benefit from an additional facilities block nearer the entrance.
As a family site, there were many groups with very young children and we felt that another of the many excellent staff could be employed as a night warden as some people were extremely inconsiderate, making lots of noise well after 11pm and before 7am.
The nearest pub is very commercial and live sport is available on TV, but we found the best option to be the Holmbush Inn a few minutes towards St Austell - much better with good value food and good, local real ale.
This is a good site for a holiday especially with children as the facilities on site are fine. Well recommended

We stayed here for the first two weeks of school holiday, and what a wonderful site it is, right from booking last year, I told the nice lady on reception I had a toddler and a six year old and she sorted a perfect pitch for us.
On arrival we were greeted by friendly staff, and directed us to our pitch, which was very spacious for car, caravan and awning with plenty of space for kids to play. The toilet block was very clean and all the site is maintained to a high standard.
There are two large pools and a toddler pool and all were heated and clean we spent quite a bit of time there as the weather wasn't too bad. There is a courtyard area which sells food (cant comment on that because we didn't have any), while we were there, entertainment was on a few times a week, take chairs and a bottle of wine and your sorted (kids loved it).
Carlyon Bay beach is about 10 mins walk we took car, and it was free parking, there are some derelict buildings but it is all fenced off and it didn't bother us, the sea is quite calm, but it does slope down quite quick, but it is nice because when the tides out there are rock pools.
The other beach we visited was par that was a lot safer for kids as there are no sudden drops but there is a lot of seaweed, we went collecting mussels which kids loved.
I must mention the Rasleigh arms in Charlestown first pub on your left, you get a lovely meal there (try the local seafood) it is advisable to book and I would recommend going in the week as it gets busy at weekends, we also tryed the next pub down on you right I think its called the harbourmaster (iam not sure) we had a nice meal there as well.
All I can say is this was a really great holiday even the weather was quite good.

WOW what a site!
We went out of season so it was very quiet, incredibly quiet. It's a very big site with it's own shop, crazy golf, pool, games area (pool table etc), tv room, restaurant and take away! as it was out of season this was all mostly not in use.
The toilets and showers are wonderful, the cleanest and nicest I think I have ever seen, I think another reviewer compared them to hotel bathrooms!
There are so many places to go in the area, the main reason we went was for the Eden project which I highly recommend but give yourself enough time we went over two days (if you buy a ticket and sign up for gift aid you get an annual pass instead). There is a lovely beach a short drive away in Par, there is a car park.
We had such a lovely time we even stayed on an extra night.
I would go back here but as we don't have children I would avoid the peak school holiday times.
The only thing I would like them to do is put signs next to the taps to say if they are drinking water or not I am sure they were but couldn't be 100% sure!

Well we could sum up this site in one word - noisy!
As previously mentioned by other reviews there are several good playground areas throughout the site, unfortunately at which children are allowed to run riot at all hours so no escaping that noise. Also a very nice, although completely unsupervised, swimming pool area. Again kids screaming at the top of their voices. Then you have, probably the parents of the same kids, up until the early hours having what sounded like tent parties. Only once in six nights did someone from the site venture down at gone 1am in the morning to ask them to quieten down.
Then there is a train track running adjacent to the site, and the nearby busy bypass that seems to be used as a 24hr race track by the locals. Add to this the constant (8.30am-5pm) drone of the very hard working staff, doing a great job, on their lawn mowers, leaf blowers or tractor collecting the bins, and you are in for anything but the 'peaceful and relaxing stay' advertised in the brochure.
The toilets/showers were acceptably clean and not overly busy, but when you're paying over £30 a night to camp it smarts a bit when asked for an extra 20p to dry your hair.
The shop was well stocked, and the evening entertainment, kids disco, live band, was also good.
When bringing up the above upon 'checking out' we were basically told 'tough, you should expect some noise'. Well we do expect some, but we also want to be able to relax on holiday.

Great shower facilities, lovely pools. But we have stopped staying here as everytime the rain falls the pitches flood, we got fed up with spending 2 weeks of our holidays in smelly water that refused to drain, the owners didn't seem to be concerned
Easy access of local areas and super markets
Tesco and asda not far away plus britannia pub in easy walking distance.
Cornish market world is easy to walk to for a few hrs shopping plus par station for easy access to the local trains, its a shame they have a problem with drainage after yrs of staying there we have had enough and will not be spending another summer wading through water SORRY X

This is a very good site and in a such a good location, central for everything. The park is well looked after and with great facilities. Staff are helpful and friendly. Pitches are flat and generous in size and pitch fees are reasonable -all you need is good weather to make this location a great holiday. The local beach is clean and only a short walk away The large indoor market nearby sells everything you ever need to cram in your car to take home. Supermarkets are not far away and there are a host of local attractions to keep you entertained a site I would go back to, however allow enough time when booking to see everything this very attractive and popular location has to offer

A friend and I camped for four nights at this campsite. It was a real joy as the facilities and management were excellent.
The site has both tents and caravans. There are appeared to be several fields for both.
We arrived late to the site, due to a long journey, but the staff were still more than happy to help and even exclaimed concern that we hadn't arrived earlier. They directed us to our pitch and explained the facilities available.
The showers block and toilets were amazing. Lots of sinks and showers with lots of hot water. There was plenty of mirrors to be able to wash faces and brush teeth before bed. In the shower block there was also power sockets, which we used for hair dryers and to charge mobiles. The shower/ toilet block was warm throughout the night and the light swtiches easily accessible.
There were also wash up facilities and bins.
In addition to this there was also a games room with pool table and tv; and a miniature golf course (which we unfortunately did not get the opportunity to use)
The staff run a shop which is open at set times during the day for useful camping items. The manager even jump started our car when we accidentally left the cool box plugged in overnight! They were also very helpful with advice on the area, even giving us a map to walk / drive to the Eden Project. We were told that walking to the project gave us discounted entry. So we took up the challenge and walked there within an hour.
The site is a 10 - 15 minute drive from St Austell, which has a broad range of facilities, including several supermarkets and camping shops.
This was a lovely campsite and would highly recommend it to others including families. It was a fabulous place to stay at and would happily do so again.
