Our first camping holiday as a family with 3 children aged 8,6 and 2.

We were allowed to choose where to pitch. The site is on a hill but there are reasonably flat areas to pitch and hedging to act as wind breaks. The views are stunning out to sea.We had some heavy rain whilst there but obviously good drainage as only became muddy on well trodden areas. The Shower blocks are well maintained and clean with plenty of hot water and only had to queue once just for few minutes.

The shop on site small but well stocked with essentials open 8-6 (7 on saturday)Small laundry room with 2 washers and dryers normally 2 laundry rooms but someone had vandalised lower laundry room few weeks earlier. Club house had good range of basic well cooked meals at reasonable prices. Outdoor pool was warm and manned by 2 lifeguards.

Smugglers Inn short walk down lane-very nice food.Riding school seems very popular unable to book lesson for my eldest daughter when tried midweek. Ringstead beach 1 mile up coast worth visit -small shop and cafe selling snacks here. Lulworth castle and tank museum good family days out short drive away .Beware of traffic jams trying to get into weymouth!

Great holiday even stayed an extra night real lovely friendly feel to place.Would recommend and hope to stay there soon again

This was our first visit to this campsite, chosen on the basis of the UK camping website reviews. We booked in advance for a 7 night stay, the campsite itself is in a fantastic location, a Greenfield site with great views of the sea and very good access to the coastal path network.

When we arrived the campsite was only about a third full (surprising as it was the first week of the school holidays!). Staff at the Campsite shop were very helpful, and they now accept payment by cards. There are no reserved or marked pitches so you can find your own space in one of the three main fields. The lower part of the site tended to be more noisy, possibly because it is slightly flatter and therefore attracts more campers. There are two large toilet shower blocks serving the campsite, the showers were hot (and free). Towards the end of our week long stay the campsite was filled to capacity which did result in the occasional short queue for showers at peak times.

The kids loved the site there is a small playground and plenty of space to run around, also campers get access to the club house (we didn’t experience this) and heated outdoor swimming pool in the caravan park on the other side of the campsite. There is also a well equipped camp shop you can use.

The Smugglar’s Inn is a 5 minute walk from the site and serves good food and drink, it does get very busy when the sun comes out. Overall we had a great stay at Rosewall and will certainly be back to this site in the future.

A large and well appointed site located conveniently for Weymouth and the Jurassic coast. Facilities are clean and well maintained. Although 225 pitches are stated here, due to the uneven nature of the ground, possibly only a handful are completely level. Those that are will certainly be occupied. The other pitches range from 'slightly undulating' to completely unsuitable for a tent.

The caravan site opposite has a decent club open to Rosewall campers and has a good range of beers and food at reasonable prices. During high season the club offers live music and karoake. There is also an outdoor swimming pool which, although we did not use, looked clean and was well covered by lifeguards.

Best of all is the proximity of one of Dorset's best pubs, The Smuggler's Inn. A short walk down the lane from the campsite, the pub provides excellent local beers and home cooked food. Prices are towards the slightly high mark but the portions are large and the food of an excellent standard. Take a torch for return journeys after dark as the lane is unlit.

Walking behind the pub, there is a path down to the beach where at low tide there are some fantastic rock pools to entertain children and adults alike. Be aware that the path is difficult for pushchairs and impossible for wheelchairs.

The camp shop is well stocked with all the usual items although for newspapers you'll need to walk to the bottom of the site to the shop near the club. To correct previous reviews, the camp shop now accepts debit and credit cards.

All in all probably one of the best sites we've stayed at in this part of Dorset. It must've been good as we went for a week and stayed for ten days, returning only because the weather turned nasty.

This is our third visit to this site and we were in a family group of five tents. We keep coming back because we like it here.

The staff at Rosewall are friendly and very helpful.

Facilities (including; two toilet/shower blocks with washing up sinks, many rubbish & water points and even a porta' loo waste) are excellent. This year (2009) is the last year that the swimming pool and club house are available as the camping site is no longer connected with the holiday camp at the bottom of the site. We did not use these facilities while on our weekend visit this year though have used them in the past.

The site is on a slope although there are plenty of level pitches with the best at either the top or bottom of the site. The many large grass areas have hedges offering shelter from the weather and there is a single track road going down the middle to the bottom of the site. There are two toilet blocks both excellent and one shop at the top of the site. The water was always hot whenever we used the blocks which are cleaned regularly.

My last two visits here both featured gales for one of the nights. On both occasions, some other tent owners didn’t make it through the night packing up or even abandoning their tent. Rosewall is close to the coast and quite high up so you may want to upgrade the tent pegs and make sure the supports for your tent are up to the task of dealing with potentially strong winds. (Our first visit three years ago wasn’t a problem as the weather was gorgeous).

Outside of the site a stony/rocky beach is accessed by an invigorating 10-20 minute walk. There are no shops at the beach but you do pass a shop and a pub just outside of the site. There is another pub at the bottom of the lane with a large car park and some fantastic views of the sea. There is a coastal path offering stunning views for those interested in walking with Weymouth around five miles and the other way Ringstead around a mile. The path goes on to Lulworth though I didn’t make it that far. As you enter the site there are horse riding facilities.

With the pool not available next year I am not sure how the younger campers will be occupied as there is little else available for them. I understand there is a playground at the top of the site but I didn't see this so cannot comment. The site is well placed for a drive into Dorchester or Weymouth and you have the other attractions such as Lulworth Cove or Monkey World which may make for a day trip.

When we arrived at Rosewall I though that this would be the last time campers would be welcome. I am pleased to learn that this is incorrect so I look forward to our visit next year. Hopefully the weather will be better.

Haven't been here since I was a child. Still a great site, although if it's busy you'll be pitching on a slope. Clean showers and toilets and although it was quiet when we went, there were only a few showers in each block so I could imagine queues if it's much busier. The pool was very clean and only a 5 minute walk from the far end of the site. The clubhouse was cheap and quiet. The Smugglers pub is about a 10 minute walk away and does food. Will definitely return soon.

We came here end of May 09 and found it a great site! The site is on quite a hill at the top of which is the shop, which was fairly well stocked. We had access to the club bar and pool which was heated and was great for cooling down when the weather got too hot! The Smugglers Inn is a great pub, less than 5 mins walk away, the staff and food was lovely. We're definitely coming back!

This is an excellent site, with plenty of space and great views. The shower blocks are spacious and regularly cleaned. There is a good pub handily nearby (but not too near ).

The site is on a long slope but it's not hard to find a flat area to pitch your tent. There are hedges to provide protection from the wind.

There are opportunities for lovely walks direct from the site, either to and/or along the coast, or inland to the White Horse and beyond.

Stayed at this campsite for an impromptu weekend away. It wasn't a particularly dry weekend and it was the first time we had used our Cherokee tent.

The campsite was absolutely perfect - although it was the summer holidays and there were plenty of tents there - we had plenty of space and were not 'penned' in by bigger models. The facilities were good and there was no queue for the toilets/showers.

It was a bonus to be able to use the nearby holiday camp bar but I believe that is not the case now.

Saying that, the Smugglers Inn pub just down the road was a good place to sit and while away the day with a good drink and good food.

We arrived on the Thursday before the bank holiday weekend at the end of May, having previously visited the site in June 2007. On arrival, we were greeted with masses of space and pitches to choose from, an amazing view of the sea, clean facilities and absolute peace and quiet. Our pitch was very even (though we noted some were not) and in a lovely sheltered corner.

We woke up on our first morning having slept wonderfully and enjoyed a breakfast at the clubhouse (about a 4 min walk from our pitch) and then went out for the day.

When we came back to the site that evening from a lovely day out in Poole it was a very different site than that which we'd left in the morning! I should point out that in this review I am not criticising the site itself, or the way it is run - all I am saying is the site is amazing when it is quiet and is not so great when it's busy and therefore I won't be visiting it at a bank holiday weekend again.

The site was absolutely packed by Saturday morning and, despite the fact the site claims to disallow large groups, it seemed almost every pitch there was a large group over the weekend. This meant the site was very noisy (even between 11pm and 8am, the site's designated 'quiet time') what with drunken adults, screaming children, barking dogs and music. It also meant it was almost impossible to get a shower in the morning and so I just resorted to using the showers in the evening (there were 4 showers available in the ladies block). My fiancé found it was easier to get a shower in the men's however. The facilities were generally kept fairly clean considering how busy they were.

Despite this, we had a great weekend. There is so much to do in the area - we managed to cover Weymouth, Pooole, Swanage, Corfe Castle, Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, Wareham and Sandbanks all of which were beautiful (albeit we were very lucky with the weather!). We spent a couple of evenings at the clubhouse which was OK - cheap and cheerful (wouldn't recommend it for an evening meal unless you're happy with burger and chips) and also popped to the Smugglers Inn (another place which would have been idyllic had it been quieter but unfortunately we waited 1 hour 45 mins for our fish and chips there which put us off a little).

All in all this site is a wonderful place to be if you can catch it when it's a bit quieter. The noise and the fact that we felt our privacy was a little invaded by our neighbours spoiled our experience somewhat but it won't put me off visiting again as the views, the space and the surrounding area are all fantastic.
