We spent 3 nights midweek. It was fantastic as there were very few people there. We had virtually a whole field to ourselves.

Nice grassy pitches, although many on a slope, so find your spot carefully.

Site very clean and tidy. The resident wardens clean the shower/toilet blocks regularly and were very friendly. Great access direct onto the coastal walks.

We didn't bother having a BBQ, as the superb Smugglers Inn was only 5 minutes walk away, the food is great and reasonably priced. Try the local badger ales.

Rosewall in Osmington Mills has become our favourite UK site since we discovered it earlier this year. It is a great peaceful family site in a cracking location. For those wanting sea views and peace and quiet I would suggest the top fields. They are also closer to the children's play area (for those with kids) and the upper sanitary block gets my vote over the lower one.

From a bad experience with a noisy group (on one visit) and my general impression the lower fields seem to attract a more rowdy bunch - perhaps it is the proximity to the excellent pub !

Good shop on site and owners are very friendly. The sanitary blocks are well maintained and kept spotlessly clean.

Loads to do in this area of Dorset but the gem for us with Rosewall is the fact that it is a short (half hour walk) to the best end of our favourite beach - Ringstead Bay. An absolute gem of a beach with a fair amount of sand, sheltered reef (safe swimming for kids), rock pools, fishing, kayaking, great cafe.

We stayed here for a long weekend in June and it was lovely. Not crowded, but it was early in the season. Lovely views, immaculate facilities. The beach was a bit disappointing as it's a nightmare to get to and is rocky once there so no good for kids at all. The little playground is sweet and my girls had a lovely time playing with other children and in the middle of the camping field. Well stocked shop, everything from kites to bread!

Great site, though sadly we did not get to stay as long as we wanted due to our car breaking down on our 1st day out of a 2 night stay.

One Thing to add is that the swimming pool which was mentioned in previous reviews is no longer available to Rosewall residents since the other park was bought by a different owner. A bit of a shame as we were hoping to use that but in the end it didn't affect us because we had to leave after a day!

Will be coming back though as the local pub (Smugglers Inn) was great, the beach although rocky provided my son with lots of excitement and things to do and being fairly close to Weymouth was brilliant.

We chose this site based on the reviews given here plus the fact that we used to caravan nearby here every Easter when we were kids- quite a while ago now ;-). Also, after booking I noted that it was recommended in the Cool Camping Kids book.

We were not disappointed and had a wonderful week here and were graced by good weather. This was a lovely site for our family of five with superb views down to the sea and horses grazing in the field next to the playground. We also had a small number of rabbits playing around our tent - much to the delight of our 1 year old.

The site was fairly full but it never felt crowded and we found a very nice and sheltered pitch in the middle field. As mentioned somewhere below, avoid the lower field since this seemed inexplicably crowded compared to the rest of the site. Our pitch was on a slight slope (as is much of the site) but nothing really to worry about.

On the whole facilities were good and clean. The facilities/showers at the top of the site were somewhat better than those in the middle/lower. They were much cleaner and appeared a little newer so it was worth the hike uphill to get to them. The shop was well stocked and the staff extremely friendly and helpful.

The pool access was a real bonus - it was great to come back from a day out and spend an hour at the pool before dinner.

The Smugglers Inn at the bottom of the hill was very nice although I think the food is overrated. However the beer and the ambience was very good.

We will definitely come back here at some point in the future.

A lovely site, well managed and well appointed. We stayed for a week towards the middle of August (A very hot week!). I have enjoyed this site on and off for many years, on this occasion however we found there was some very noisy campers nearby and had to tolerate some shouting and swearing! This isn't the norm for this site but we did have some difficulties sleeping due to the noise on some occassions. Unfortunately, some people don't appreciate that tents are quite flimsy and shouting at 12am does cause a disturbance. Luckily it didn't occur for the whole week and was bad luck on our part! The swimming pool was used daily by our children (too cold for me to contemplate) and had changing facilities and showers as well as food available from the club house at the pool side. The walks across the cliffs were lovely and an excellent spot to watch the Red Arrows performing for Weymouth carnival! During the day the site was lovely and quiet and we came home feeling thoroughly relaxed!

Spent 6 nights here and thoroughly enjoyed it. The plus points of the site are that:

- it is quiet as it promotes itself as a family campsite, and is set away from the main road.

- The setting is picturesque as it is set in a dip in the hills with views of the sea.

- There is sufficient washing-up points and showers to ensure queues are short.

- There is a heated outdoor swimming pool which is fine for the kids to splash around in.

- The beach is a 5 min walk with loads of rock pools to go crabbing in.

- A riding school is next door for those children who love ponies.

- The Smugglers Inn is next to that beach, and is a real bonus as the ale is great, staff very good and food excellent too.

- There are two camp shops, both adequate for the essentials.

The negatives were:

- The beach is not great for swimming due to rocks.

- The campsite whilst large does have a fair proportion of ground that slopes. We spent the first night on a slope before moving first thing in the morning!

Overall a well run site that has a great pub nearby, next to a beach and the South west coastal path. I would recommend it to anyone who is the area.

Just come back from a lovely week in Osmington, site was easy to find. When we arrived friendly staff booked us in and we found a great spot under the trees. The views were amazing. There are two lots of toilet blocks which were cleaned three times a day, which could have done with being done a bit more often, for the amount of people using them, so at times were not very clean. Lovely walks down to the cliff tops, wasn't very child friendly to get to the sea front, so only went down there once. We had use of the swimming pool and club on the other site, but there was nothing for the children, only adult entertainment.

This was our second visit to this camp site the first being 11 years ago on honey moon - still a fantastic location. We booked in advance for a 10 night stay. The site has easy access to the coast and the coast path. A rocky beach is accessible from the end of the road the site is on, ideal for rock pooling. A nicer beach is found by walking east along the coastal path towards Ringstead for about 3/4 of a mile.

The campsite itself is in a fantastic location, a basic site with great views of the sea and very good access to the coastal path network.

When we arrived (a Sunday) the camp site was quite busy but was much emptier by the Tuesday this was repeated the following weekend becoming busy on the friday emptying on the Tuesday.

Staff at the Campsite shop were very helpful especially when asking for directions to the local hospital, long story involving boiling water, a bucket and my right foot.

As previously mentioned the site now accepts payment by cards.

There are no reserved or marked pitches so you can find your own space in one of the three main fields. The lower part of the site tended to be busier, we pitched in the middle field.

There are two large toilet/shower blocks serving the campsite, the showers were hot (and free) and were kept clean save for muddy foot prints. With the torrential rain we experienced this was probably unavoidable.

The kids loved the site there is a small playground an on most days enough space around the tents for ball games and kite flying etc.

We made use of the pool (possibly to be discontinued)but not the ranch house bar.

The Smugglar’s Inn is a 5 minute walk from the site and serves good food and drink, though the service is much better inside than in the beer garden.

We had a good time here despite the very wet weather.

There is loads to do in the area. We would recommend the Tank Museum, Nothe Fort,

Tynham Village and the Jurassic cruise form white motor cruses in Weymouth. The fort is especially good on a wet day and excellent value at £13 for a family of 4. This is in addition to the totally free coastal paths.

We visited the Rosewall site on the spur of the moment and on the basis of the reviews here.

I can only say the reviews did not leave us disappointed with what we found. The site is excellent in all respects; facilities, shop, staff were all brilliant.

The Smugglers Inn is a short walk away and the beach, though rocky and gravel, is great for the kids rockpooling.

We would not hesitate to go again.
