My young son and I stayed here during the summer of 2007. I would strongly recommend this site. The family who owns the site makes everyone feel very welcome, they are so hospitable and nothing is too much trouble.
The views are awesome and the new toilet/shower blocks lovely and clean. My only worry is that when the site is busy you would probably have to queue for a shower. Meals are delicious. I thought it was a rare luxury for me as the chief cook and bottle washer, to be able to have a full Welsh breakfast made for you when your camping!
My lad brought his laptop and was able to chat to his friends online because wi fi was available. That kept him amused till we were ready to go to the beach. The best beach on the isle, in my opinion, was a few minutes walk down the road. Wouldnt think of staying anywhere else in future if at all possible. In a word. Idyllic

I stayed here for 2 days from Sunday 2nd Spentember before moving on to Dulas near Moelfre. Plus Points This campsite is set amoungs picturesque scenery overlooking The Snowdon Mountain Range and Caernarfon Castle in the distance. There are nice beaches with in easy walking distance of Treardur bay, just mind the windy roads. A loverlery light house at south stack winding down over 400 steps. Fantastic walkways surrounded by wild flowers to colve beaches. Holyhead being a small island you would find it hard not find a see view. There is a great port nearby actually in Holyhead and a nice harbour to see, but to avoid Holyhead town if you can. The campsite offers a vast amount of space to pitch and the owners are friendly. There is a new toilet / shower / Laundry hut Showers are impressive The minor points. The showers and toilets do not cater for many people. As there are only two toilets and two showers. The hut is surounded by hard gravel and ditches, not good for bare feet and walking in the dark. Only a small field was mowed and we pitched on a nice view point but on long wet grass. It is £10 out of season to camp here, found this a bit steep.

Spent 7 nights at Blackthorn Farm in late August 2007. The first two nights were somewhat windy, but our tent stood up well, especially as we decided to pitch it on the highest spot of the site which gave us excellent views of the surrounding scenery and sea. We only had a tiny amount of morning rain so other than that it was sunny or overcast, but the temperatures were warm (apart from a sporadic blustery wind). The site itself is well organised with pitches with or without Electric. We had an E.L.U and had no problems with it whatsoever. The grass was well trimmed and kept very tidy. The new shower block is adequate and clean (4 showers, 4 sinks, 4 toilets, 2 of each for males and females), although it was necessary to queue (shower, sinks and toilets) as the site was packed over the bank holiday weekend (approx 25 caravans, 25 tents) and so there were a lot of bodies on site, so timing your 'visits, washes' had to be delayed somewhat to avoid the morning rush etc. Holyhead is a mere 10 mins away by car (Cashpoints, Florists, Fishmongers, Butchers, Tesco, Netto, Argos) with the local sandy beach only 5 mins away again by car, 15 mins by foot. Local attractions include Beaumaris: Castle, Jail, Puffin Island boat trip (45 mins by car), Butterfly Farm (30 mins by car), The owners are very friendly and accomodating which gives the campsite a relaxing and undisturbed feel. They also sell breakfasts, ice cream and on Friday's evening tea (fish & chips) to all residents if you don't feel the need to cook. Would we go back? Yes, the scenery is stunning (on a clear day) and although the queues at the new shower/ toilet block are a bit of a pain, I think we would possibly not visit again over a bank holiday, but would definitely possibly give it another try next year. Also, I think the owners (and yes I was young once) should be wary of 'raver types', as listening to 200 bpm (beats per minute) of heavy base and pinky and perky sounding singers pumping out techno rubbish from their zuked up vauxhall nova's every day from across the other end of the campsite did disturb the peace, but luckily they were only there for 2 nights and were told a couple of times to reduce the volume. My verdict: 7/10 - Pleasant and enjoyable.

We have just returned from 10 days camping at this lovely site and are already planning our return. There was loads of room and we had a lovely pitch with fantastic views over Anglesey to Snowdonia and the Llyn Peninsular. The toilets and showers were great in a newly built block - loads of hot water all included in the price. Also facilities for washing up, washing machine and tumbler dryer and a shower for washing down wetsuits, life jackets and sandy kids! The owners were really friendly and helpful - we sampled the Friday lunchtime fish, chips and mushy peas which were fantastic. A very relaxed site with mainly families and couples. No play area but loads of space for the kids to run around and play their own games. A great place reminds me of sites of my childhood just with much better facilities. The site is really handy for some lovely beaches although parking at some can be difficult on hot, sunny days (yes we did have some!). Holyhead has all the usual shops now located at an out of town centre on the old A5 (junction 2 of new road). Centre of town very disappointing as obviously everyone has moved out (shame really). Loads to do on Anglesey itself and Snowdonia really close as well. We had a fantastic ride on the Welsh Highland Railway and would recommend it as a good day out - especially with train mad small boys. Only one problem of trying to find somewhere nice to eat out on a Sunday night between Caernarfon and Bangor - eventually found a lovely hotel by the pier in Bangor and had there Sunday lunch special (also served as evening meal) - huge amounts of food - it would have fed us 4 times over and really good value at £11.50 for adults and £6.50 for kids (3 course meal with coffee). Also found a fantastic pizza place in Beddgelert - all freshly made on order.

It must be noted that we are "virgin campers" and as such may not be the best of judges when it comes to campsites. However, having made this our first site we were both hugely impressed. Wanting a site to get away from the City, we found it here. The owner, Richard, having only taken it on in April has already re-wired the site and installed a brand-new wooden challet styled toilet/shower block and is also well under-way with other alterations to the farm building which houses his B n B accommodation. We both found him to be very friendly and ready to be of help when needed. As for the site , it housed caravans and tents and appears to be a family-orientated site and certainly had plenty of space for kids and adults alike to relax in. The area itself is only a stones-throw from Hollyhead and is easily accessed on the express-way. The website contains excellent directions. Will certainly go again and would have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

My family and I visited Blackthorn Farm for 5 nights in August 2007. The site is large and open close to a fantastic stretch of coastline. A couple of fine beaches are in walking distance. The site has areas for tourers and tents. Virtually everywhere on the site has a sea view. The host Richard, his brother Nigel (the Chef) and mother Audrey are very welcoming and friendly. What I liked about the site was it was very relaxed with no Do's and Dont's plastered everywhere. The shower and toilet block were new in 2006. I would be concerned if the site got busy that the facilities would struggle ae peak times of day though. Only two toilets and two showers in the male block. There is a shower next to the sinks for washing wetsuits, sandy children etc. There is a B&B is onsite which can provide breakfasts, packed lunches and evening meals for the campers and caravaners Overall a good site

Well we couldn't stay away. Returned for the easter weekend site not overly busy so plenty of space. Still one of our favourites. South stack light house is a must visit tourist attraction only a couple of min's away by car. All amenities were in good working order despite being basic. But still recommend highly for location views and hospitality of the owners

The location of Blackthorn Farm is superb with excellent beaches either a nice walk or short drive away. Views from the site are wonderful as are the pitch locations. You can choose to be in the main bit with electric hook ups or pitch in a massive field away from the crowds (and electricity). The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, the only thing that lets this site down are the toilets/showers. They are very, very, basic and located in a very old draughty static caravan. If you time it right (or it that wrong), you get to evict a local mollusk or two!. That said, the toilets flush and the showers get warm. Would I go back? Yes, it's worth putting up with the showers and toilets to visit a great site.

I visited this campsite with my husband and two young sons. Lovely views of the coastline. Quiet setting. Approximately 5 minutes drive from Trearddur Bay. No play area for the children but ample room for them to run around safely. Plenty of electric hook-up available. Showering facilities in a very old static caravan let this site down.

September 2005 This has to be one of our families favorite. Been 4 times this year well worth the drive. Scenery from site is breath taking ,beautiful beach within a few mins from site local shops and places of intrest very nearby. Showers do the job, and the owners couldnt be any more polite friendly or helpful. I highly recomend this site
