We used this campsite in April when we cycled the coast to coast route. We also used the transport facility offered by Robert and Julie - the owners which works really well.
We arrived on a Wednesday night, pitched the tents and then realised we hadn't brought any gas for the cookers. We'd got a large pan of chilli to cook - not the best start! However - Julie very kindly offered to cook it for us in the farmhouse.
The facilities are excellent. Showers are clean and hot. We had breakfast in the farmhouse and packed lunch provided for us as part of the package we had booked.
Julie and Robert really went out of their way to help with anything we asked for and more.
There are 2 pubs in the village which is less than a mile away - we did walk down a couple of times - but accepted the offer of a lift on the first night from Robert and Julie!
There were 8 blokes there on this occasion - but weve booked up to go back in August with the ladies!
Cant recommend it highly enough - and cant wait to get back there!

Fantastic visit. A bit off the beaten track but worth the drive.
Arrived late and were met by a very cheery Robert who showed us where to pitch and then took us round to show us the toilet and shower area, bins and waste disposal area.
TV reception incredible! Would go back for that alone.
Hook up and water at every pitch. Toilet was clean and although we didn't shower there they looked clean and well maintained.
Local village not too far away and good looking pubs and other facilities there.
Book swap available and might have used had we been there longer. Home produce also available.
Lovely waking up in the morning and looking at the incredible views and to the sounds of a working farm - but not woken by it - despite being in the middle of lambing (apparently quad bikes were in use during the night - but we were blissfully unaware of such activity).
Visited by Julie in the morning who was very chatty and helpful in regard to local advice.
All in all a great place and will definitely be going back

Just come back from a two night stay at this site would definitely go back owners are very friendly on arrival and throughout our stay. Toilet and showers are immaculate, great walks from site village just under a mile down the road with dog friendly pubs. As said before will be going back soon as my husband wants to go fishing.

Have just returned from a frosty weekend at this site, and it was brilliant.
We stayed on the CL 5 van part of the site which has EHU and water supply. There is also a loo and a couple of showers as well as the usual elsan and waste water disposal point. Julie & Robert made us feel very welcome with an almost “come in and put your feet up” attitude very refreshing after experiencing sites that take your money then make you feel like you are trespassing.
The site is tucked away in lovely countryside with beautiful views. The 20min walk to the pub in the village was worth the effort even in freezing conditions.

Mains farm was a wonderful spot to stay with lovely scenery and a pub a short walk away. And it was nice to be located close to a few of the lakes(only a short drive away) allowing us to get to see a lot of the area.
The campsite facilities are spot on with lovely, very clean shower facilities.
A completely flat camping area with plenty of space for our tent. In addition a caravan within the camping area was always open for use to clean cooking stuff etc, which meant a toilet break in the night never meant a far walk. All this a superb bonus.
The site is not too big so no need to worry about overcrowding or any queues for toilet/shower facilities.
And the owners were extremely friendly and welcoming. Always doing everything they could to make us feel comfortable. Even lending some of their daughters clothes to my girlfriend when she left her bag at home. Much more than we could have ever expected.
Everything was extremely good value for money!
Cant recommend the place enough.
We will certainly be going back.

I thought it was only fair that I write this review after being looked after so well by our hosts at Mains Farm. Myself and a friend were completing the coast 2 coast ride in two days carrying our own camp gear to site. We arrived at 7pm in the rain and were met by our hosts who took us immediately to there new shower block. Once changed and clean they had booked us a table in the local pub 1 mile down the road and even gave us a lift down there. Up early the next day we were given bacon butties and a pack lunch to take with us on our ride ( this was included in our camp fee of only £15 pounds, I think it was £8 per night without breakfast n packlunch). We were packed up and ready to carry on our long journey by 8.30am and I commented to the owner about the weight I was carrying (i.E Wet tents, Sleeping bags, mats and towels) and he offered to post them back to my address for just the cost of postage! I took him up with this and I am so glad cause the hill climbs on the second day were deadly!
A fab site ideally situated for the c2c with excellent host who take hospitality to the next level!

Just got back from a great weekend at the site.
Probably the friendliest site have ever been on. Owners are fantastic and nothing is too much trouble, even offering to run us to the local pub.
Stayed in the 'orchard' part of site, where there is room for 4 big tents (with EHU) and a static caravan to use should weather turn. This also has kettle, toaster, microwave, toilet, beds, tv, chairs etc. And a fridge, which soom became a full beer/wine cooler.
Showers are great, though only 2, this was sufficient for the number of people on site. Free, hot water, and big showers (double) and ample changing room for changing. Also cleaned regularly as it did rain over the w/e.
Another major plus - farm has a barn which we used one night for a barbecue, due to the rain. This has seats and table, another fridge, and electic (for music etc). We had a fantastic night, and kids loved playing in puddles outside, whilst we watched them in the dry.
Only negative was access to the orchard as had to park car at entrance to orchard. Access was through a door in wall - we had to carry tent (not a light one!) and equipment 50yds to pitch. Not an issue this weekend, but would not be too nice in rain.
Will certainly return to the site. We had a great time.

Two others and myself stayed for one night at this campsite in tents during a coast-to-coast (C2C) cycle-ride.
You can expect the usual amenities such as toilets, showers and water here but there are some extras which make this site outstanding.
1. The hosts are exceptionally friendly and generous. They add a really human touch and genuinely care about their guests. We were in a bit of a pickle and they helped us out enormously, well above the call of duty.
2. You can use this site as part of your coast-to-coast ride as it is en-route. They have a special optional package for such people - at the time of writing they were offering a full-english breakfast (personally served in a beautiful farmhouse kitchen) plus a bacon roll plus a packed-lunch for the following day's ride plus your normal camping fee, for £15pp all-in. This represents amazing value for money, especially considering the big bonus the campsite has to offer which is.
3. For campers there is a static caravan which has a living room (including electric heater and TV!), kitchen (including microwave and kettle), toilet, shower (I think?), and some foam-mattress beds. Campers can use this as they please. It was a VERY welcome suprise after having spent two previous nights under canvas. There was no extra charge for this luxury.
4. The site is very quiet and a good size (not too big, not too small) and is 15 minutes walk from the village and its pubs.
I can't recommend this site highly enough. I don't want to quote the prices in case they have changed, but at the time of writing it represented incredible value for money.
If I am in the area again it will certainly be my campsite of choice.

Wonderful site, Facilities good, ehu and water at each pitch. Views excellent, lovely riverside walk. Robert & Julie excellent hosts very welcoming; nothing is too much trouble. Local baker visits site with bread & cakes on Saturday morning. Kirikoswald has a really good pub 15 mins walk, good value food.
