I would recommend this campsite to anyone who does not want entertainment in the evening as this campsite is lovely & peaceful, it is ideal for couples on there own or with children. We went & we took our 11 year old son & 5 month old baby daughter, we meet a lot of people & had a really great time, we would go back again & you can not hear the traffic on the road at all. Go there & have fun & enjoy yourselves because we did.

The local info on their website was extremely useful prior to our trip. As already mentioned very clean toilets/shower block. Plenty of hot water, only 3 showers in ladies block but timed it well and never needed to queue. There weren't alloted pitches for tents. The area we were in was rock solid and bent some of our pegs which hasn't happened before. The pub was very near but had a fairly limited menu - especially if you don't want chips or breadcrumbs! £2.50 a pint! Abbotsbury was walking distance and the Children's Farm was great for our 2 year old- the indoor play area was great. One shop did cash back as there wasn't a nearby cashpoint. Would probably return with more cash for the pub and even stronger pegs!

We can only sing the praises of this lovely site in Dorset. It's all very well laid out, a nice mix of tents, motor homes and caravans, and superb facilities. The toilets are very clean - the poshest portaloos we've ever seen (or smelt!), showers, washbasins and disabled facilities too. Dishwashing and laundry rooms also immaculate. Malcolm and Sarah were up until after midnight cleaning the toilets etc., making sure they were just right for the next day.
Although there aren't any entertainment facilities on the actual site, being situated so close to Weymouth, Abbotsbury, Chesil Beach and Dorchester means that the peace of the campsite is more than welcome.
We particularly liked the minimal noise rule that was in place after 10pm. Excellent for families trying to get their young children to sleep (like we were).
We tried to have a meal at the local pub but there was over an hour's wait, so we ventured on the road to Weymouth and found the very nice Elm Tree Inn, just 2 miles away, which had very nice food and good atmosphere.
All in all, a great experience and would heartily recommend to all who want a quiet holiday on site, and then can do what they like out and about.

Had a great stay at this site. The tent field is unmarked. There are a few EHU pitches towards the centre of the field though you should not have a problem finding a place to pitch which suits you. The facilities: toilets, showers, laundry and dish-washing room were spotless including the small toilet unit in the tent field. Showers were nice and hot. This site is a quiet site - and the owners do not allow the tent field to become overcrowded. There is a small childrens playground. But because you'll have so much space in the field - the kids will have great fun. Pub with great food (at good prices) and nice beer garden less than 5 mins from Tent field. The site is less than 10 minutes from Weymouth, and the route out towards Lyme Regis along the coast provides plenty of opportunity for beaches/walks/fossil hunting and a roller-coaster drive through some beautiful villages. This was my first trip to west Dorset, and I would thoroughly recommend a visit to this area, and the use of Portesham Dairy Farm.

We spent the weekend at this site, and it is very nice. There are loo's in the camping field, but the showers are near the site entrance so are a little bit of a trek. Nice and clean though. Pub across the road is lovely, food is very nice. Nice walks from Abbotsbury and the site is only 2 miles or so from Chesil Beach, so good location. We would go back.

Previous reviews have mentioned the toilets, it is not surprising as they are immaculate. The old couple who were the caretakers were always topping up loo rolls, cleaning floors etc. The camp site is small but has all you need, toilets, free showers,( although no temp control and my children found these too hot ) laundry room, inside washing up room.
It has a small children's park,1 slide 1 baby swing and 2 children's swings, this was OK but mine bored of it quickly they are 2, 5,9, and 12 yrs.
The site shop is small and does not really stock all that you would need, just bread, milk, butter. No ice creams, sweets, papers, etc, and on the bank holiday they had run out of gas.
There is a garage about 2mins up the road but although you could get a paper you could not get charcoal or bread and the sweets we got were stale. The nearest shop is 2 miles away in Abbotsbury but as a village shop just sells the normal small shop things, but it does try to cater for the campers.
The Nearest takeaway that we could find was 10 miles away, a chippy, called Alf's he was barmy and chips were good.they also do Curry's there.
We went to the local Chesil beach ( pebbles ) this was nice but £3 to park and £ 7.40 for 4 ice creams and 2 coffees a little dear.
All in all a nice park, lots of seasonal caravans. But noisy at night due to the surrounding cattle ( sheep cows and from 4am hundreds of birds chirping.

We loved this campsite. The toilets and showers were spotless. There are now toilets in the camping field which were kept as clean as the main block. The country side around this site is beautiful. The site is level and the pitches are a good size. The park is small but the children soon made friends and played there most of the time. We are already planning our next visit.

August 2005 Portesham Dairy Farm (marked as Marsh Farm on Ordnance Survey maps) is run by good-humoured hosts and has the cleanest wash block I have ever come across in a campsite! This had sockets but no in-built hairdryer. It was a bit of a trek, though, from the tent pitches to the toilets and the site layout was a bit too open for much community atmosphere (a flat field with no natural breaks such as variety of levels or trees).
Camping Gaz was available on-site and milk from the petrol station 100 yards from the site entrance. The nearby pub served good food and had a large garden.

June 2005 Nice quiet campsite. Good flat tent field with good high hedges to use as windbreaks. Shower/Toilet block very good and clean at all times, showers are free. Plug socket for hairdryer etc and electric shaving socket in the chaps. Small childrens play area. Campsite owners very friendly and helpful. No on site shop, but free freezer for your ice blocks.
The garage across the road does milk and papers, but is not open on Sundays. The pub across the road does food and pretty good beer, not too expensive. Great location for walks as close to the coastal path. Would highly recommend.
